Wonderful store, very clean and organized with friendly staff. Placed an order for all of the cover options for my favorite comic artist. Now Im set up to have a copy of each cover for all the new issues as they come out! My favorite Ultimate Comics shop closed in Chapel Hill, but this one looks like its gonna be a great replacement! 😊

Ultimate Comics is AWESOME!! Some of the most amazing human and Inhuman beings, mutants, and (super)heroes work there! Amazing customer service, incredibly knowledgeable about all things comics and entertainment, and they treat you like a hero rather than a customer! Ultimate Comics is also kid-friendly, socially conscious, and very affordable. Would recommend to anyone every day of the week, and twice on Saturdays!

Customer service made browsing here a horrible experience. Front desk employees snickered and mocked patrons under there breath completely unprofessional…first and last time shopping here would not recommend.

Ultimate comics might be one of my favorite comic stores Ive been to. It was very organized, clean, and the comics were very reasonably priced.

Awesome comic shop! Ultimate Comics has a great selection of new issues and back issues. I just recently moved to the area and its great knowing that there are places like Ultimate Comics so I can keep up to date on everything comics. I was spoiled in Maryland with Third Eye Comics, but with Ultimate Comics, I feel that I couldnt have moved to a better place!

Nice store, nice staff but 170 bucks for X-Men vol 2 #4? 55 bucks for New Mutants #1? What a joke!

Ultimate Comics is the best comic, pop, back issue, shop in Durham. The staff is friendly, jovial and knowledgeable about current issues and back stories, they also have tons of Pops, statues and graphic novels. They learn your name, and develop a relationship with you.

Impressively laid out, nicely lit, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, with a great selection of comics (superhero, sci-fi, and fantasy) and graphic novels, alongside a modest but well-selected manga collection(JoJo, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisan, GitS; both shonen and seinen). Unfortunately, they didnt have all of the specific issues/volumes we was looking for (which are hard to find!), but they had several others that I was, and were very helpful in looking up what their distributor had in stock.FOR THE DISABLED AND WHEELCHAIR USERS:They have a nice ramp, not too steep for manual chairs, and the layout of the store is such that the aisles and islands have plenty of clearance, able to accommodate even large electric wheelchairs easily. Some comics and graphic novels are in places difficult to reach, but given the friendly customer service, dont be afraid to ask for help, or if youre feeling like theres something that could be improved, make a suggestion! As a disabled person, they get a hearty A+ in my book, especially compared to the claustrophobic, disorganized, disabled persons nightmare that is some of the stores in the area.

When I emailed the Durham store manager Matt that 5 books I bought had water stains and asked for a store credit, he forwarded my email to the store owner Alan, who then accused me of spilling water on the books myself, and lying about it and trying to cheat them; and then banned me from their store.I have been a weekly customer for almost two years and averaged $70 in purchases each week, spending thousands of dollars each year in their store. In all that time I had only returned one book that had a tear on the cover; and yet their first reaction to me requesting a credit for books that were water damaged somewhere between Diamond and their racks was to accuse me of lying and cheating. Not a good business model.Alan cited the way pulled books are managed precluded any possibility of water-damaged books being put in customers boxes. Alan also told me the Durham manager Matt told Alan I was in their store for two hours, breaking the 30 minute store time limit due to covid, even though Matt did not say anything to me while I was in the store.However, the specific books I told Matt were damaged were not on my pull list, I had taken them from the racks, so Alans explanation did not address the damaged books because they were taken off the racks, not the pull box.Also, I was not in their store for the two hours Matt alleged, as I went to the Post Office after I left their store and have a Post Office receipt time-stamped at 12:15 that is one hour and fifteen minutes after I entered their store when they opened at 11:00. Given the time it took to drive to the post office, wait in line, and complete my transaction, I could not have been in their store longer than 50 or so minutes.I responded to Alan with the correct information of the specific books I took off the racks, and with a copy of my post office receipt, pointing out Alan used incorrect information to call me a liar and a cheat, and to ban me from his store.I replied in a way not to put Alan on the defensive, and I also acknowledged I was in the store more than 30 minutes, but under 1 hour, and apologized for that. My belief was that provided with information he did not have before, Alan would acknowledge what he said was incorrect, accept my apology, and work with me to resolve any concerns he might have going forward, and keep a good customer. Those are my expectations of a professional business owner.But Alan replied back with no acknowledgement of his inaccurate statements toward me; and he expressed no interest in keeping a customer who spends (spent) thousands of dollars in his store each year. My guess is it was too difficult for him to do so after jumping to conclusions and accusing a customer of being a liar and a cheat.In Alans last email to me he changed the 2 hour accusation to 1 hour and 15 minutes (without any acknowledgement that he was previously wrong), claiming he had video tape of me in his store for that entire time, which he obviously does not as I have my USPS time-stamped receipt showing at 1 hour and 15 minutes from the time Ultimate Comics opened at 11:00, I had just completed a post office transaction. A person cant be in two places at once, Alan.Alan made the mistake of reacting to a customer complaining of damaged items by automatically accusing the customer of being a liar and a cheat, without even bothering to ask the customer what happened directly. And when presented with proof that his information was incorrect, instead of simply acknowledging that mistake, Alan dug in deeper on his accusations.Notice Alans below response, ignoring his two incorrect accusations against me; deflecting by citing poor behavior without explaining what exactly that supposed behavior was, because there was none. I spent my time in Ultimate Comics looking at Alans merchandise, and buying it. Along with engaging in friendly discussions with both employees and other customers; I was always friendly, courteous, and respectful. Thats all I ever did in his store. And nobody can, honestly at least, say anything different.

Classic comics, new comics, statues, graphic novels, action figures, and more. You can get lost in the back issues or find something amazing that came out this week. The staff is amazing, LGBTQ affirming, and they organize the best Comicon in the state for Raleigh and Durham. They can find a story youve been hunting for, or a Grail. They also do lay away and have the most knowledge about all things comics and pop culture. Go there frequently and see all the awesome sales and events they do and you will become family. They always know your name and love to chat.

I have been shopping with ultimate comics since they were at their old spot in the mall in Durham. Now many many years later I’ve moved to Thomasville nc and I make my drive to Raleigh each month to pick up my sub box but still visit the other two stores to spread the love . Always a amazingly nice and knowledgeable staff . They are always willing to speak about current and upcoming titles. The owner Alan is probably one of the nicest down to earth ppl you will ever meet and a true comic book aficionado and he has been so gracious to allow me to work for him in the past at NC Comicon one of the best shows around always top notch talent and geared for the true need at heart. I will say if it wasn’t for ultimate my kids probably wouldn’t have fell in love with comics as much as they have.

This is one of the best comic shops I’ve been too so far! They have a great selection of current series, back stock issues, and even other books such as manga or art books. If something isn’t in stock, they’ll gladly order it for you. They also have a good selection of toys, pops, and storage methods for comics. The staff is wonderful. They make my shopping experience one that I look forward too every Wednesday on New comic book day.

So this store has run three sales over the past 6 weeks or so. I gave them three shots...heres what I found1. A title that came out a week ago jumped in price from 5.99 to 7.99, a price that was not listed. The sale was Buy 2 get 2 Free so I spent a lot of time trying to match the 5.99 price only to find out it was 7.99.2. Second problem matching those prices is especially difficult when you dont have books in stock, or they are in stock but they dont count for that week.3. Third problem having nothing rows of #1 issues and then out of stock of #2, #3, and #4 and having those problems for multiple trips. I asked could they send the books from another store and honor the sale price I was told no.

After having a terrible experience with another local comic shop we came across Ultimate Comics and everything was good again. Being new to the area I was looking for a good shop and Ultimate is the place. The staff is awesome and willing to help with any questions you may have. They had an awesome guest there signing books,and have an AMAZING selection of back issues, toys, and statues to choose from. I have been back every weekend since and have had some good conversations and purchased some great books for a good price. I highly recommend going here for all of your comic needs.

A favorite local place for myself and my family. Kid friendly! Even out of town relatives enjoy stopping by when visiting. Free Comic Book Day in May is always a huge hit and fun for the whole family. The staff have always been friendly and knowlegable. The store is always near and clean and easy to find what your looking for. The kids enjoy the old arcade machine. Restroom has always been clean and stocked.

They have a good selection but their prices are way off. Just looked at a Bettie page#1 they had in the case, regular cover for $30!!! It literally just came out last week!!! Went to atomic comics down the street got it NM for cover price. Ive noticed that a lot here. They price gouge where they can. So much so we have our own personal nickname for them. Im honestly just tired of it. I definitely go other places first. Some people dont know any better but thats their problem. Ive pulled stuff out of dollar bins NM that Ive seen in their cases not NM for outrageous prices. Theres honestly no need to do business like that. Its unethical. Put something up and wait for a sucker to come along and eat the cheese.

We just moved to the area and couldnt be happier with this store! The employees are helpful and very knowledgeable. They stock all new issues from both DC and Marvel as well as other publishers and their paper-back /hardcover trades and collections are well-organized and largely very reasonable priced. They do offer a buy-3-get-1-free deal on books which is awesome and helps drive the price down even further. Their 4th of July event was great and theyve really made us feel like part of the community! Highly recommended for all your comic needs!

One of the best comic book shops in the entire state of North Carolina. Really knowledgeable staff and a super cool idea of giving a Box away so you can have them put in your favorite comic characters each month. Really helps the person getting back into comics remember what he still needs to get and know when they come out. I know there are a few others in the area but I really like this 1 the best

My husband loves this place. Always has what he is looking for. If somehow they dont they most of the time can get it. Only thing since we have to normally drive up from out of town they dont post if they are closed. We drove up the other week an hour. They were closed for a show they were doing. Open sign lit up when we arrived too. Wasted trip.

I did a tour of Raleigh/Durham comic ships this weekend and started here. Fantastic store with a really healthy and diverse inventory. Great music, great vibe. Definitely coming back next time Im in town.

I prepaid for the entire Batman: DKIII Master Race 8 book series, reluctantly. I was told, no worries, we make a box for you here and every month we will save your comics. You can come anytime and pick them up. We keep a record. After 6 months I went back to pick up several issues and they had removed my box. I was told, by the owner that after 6 months they remove the box and everything I paid for was gone! Let me repeat, the comics I paid for went back into his inventory. He told me that he could not give me any of the comics that I paid for because he kept no record? The owner is a thief! Be careful, avoid this place.

We go here every couple of weeks and its always excellent. Weve been to a ton of comic shops all over the country and this is still one of our favorites. Good selection and helpful staff. Theres always something new to check out!

Great store, offers military discount and LOTS of back issues. The staff is the only thing that makes me take a star. In my experience the staff is bothered by having to open cases and use their phones a lot while there but the store itself and selection is truly Great!

They have a good selection of comics, and the staff are always friendly and approachable. I enjoy the quiet energy of the environment, and the ability to get the newest comics without having to go to multiple locations or search on line. They also sell figurines and manga if you are looking for either.

Hands down the most accessible comic shop that I have ever been in. As someone who got back into comics after 15+ years out of them, the staff there has guided me to several top shelf titles that have endured for several years. They read everything and can taylor your pull list to what grabs you. They also have fantastic sales. Getting on their mailing list is a great way to stay in touch with the new books that are released each week. They offer a service where they will pull your books every week and offer a discount based on the number of titles you get. First rate experience.

The back issues are a bit difficult to sort through, but you can find pretty much any modern title youre looking for. Helpful staff and mid-range pricing are another draw.

I bought comics with variant covers of a nude pig girl and they didnt judge me, 5 stars. They wouldnt make eye contact after seeing it but I cant look myself in the eyes anymore either so its all good

The prices for even recent back issues are about as high as you can find, was not impressed with that. The store is bright, and well stocked, and the clerk was very knowledgable. When you have an issue of an ongoing mini series that is only 4 issues in, and a non variant issue of #1 is priced at $25, that defeats the purpose of jumping on to a series. Just pull it and sell it online if you are going to do that.

The people who work here are incredibly nice and are always willing to help you out. Its practically impossible to walk out of this store without not having bought anything because of the great selection and the fantastic reccomendations that the staff gives.

I love this store! It has comics, trade paperbacks, games, figurines, toys, even shirts. The employees are friendly and helpful while also being passionate and knowledgeable about the comics. Some shops have seemed surprised and unsure how to treat me when, as a woman in her 40s with over 35yrs of knowledge of comics, I walk in, but not here. I also have dealt with the owner who went above and beyond in helping find some issues and even threw in the couple of comics I wouldnt have been able to buy with the others I was buying but I also know it helped that I was spending over 50 bucks. They are on par with other comic stores with prices on things but sometimes have good deals/sales. They are great for getting your monthly comic orders or just buying a few back issues or just picking up a new title. They also throw the best Free Comic Book Day party in May with food, writers/artists, raffles, special deals, sometimes games and live music, cosplay, and more.

Dont put bagged and boarded brand new comics in the stands and then charge 25 cent for them. Awkward having them pull the comics out of them after telling them no. Just include them for free or dont put them in the bags to begin with. Its the little things that make or break the customer experience like that.Will take my business elsewhere.

Great selection for comics and diverse selection for graphic novels. Also had some statues/novelty items/pop minis (cant speak to that selection, as Im not too knowledgable in that area). Staff was knowledgeable about their product and prompt with service. Ill be sure to stop by next time Im in the area!
