The absolute worst place to go for help. I wasn’t a client, I worked for them and I’m telling you they Will miss treat you. They also seem to have an issue with a certain skin color. They well take your things and lose them. Then tell you you never gave it to them. The staff are extremely unprofessional and it’s dirty in there. Good luck

Ive never been to Shade Tree, but Ive heard that its a good place for battered women, and children which is wonderful that they have a place to go, I was once at Catholic Charities and the women and children came over there to eat, but thats been a long while ago when I was homeless for awhile, the women and children seemed to be well taken care of, Im sure that they didnt like living in that situation, but they seemed upbeat, it is a sad thing when you have to go to a facility like that, but at least they take care of them.

I think the rooms where the beds are should be for sleeping not eating and loud conversations. if people want eat snacks or drink beverages or talk there are table and chairs out side of the sleeping area. This would keep down bed bugs and insects and people that work or want quiet time can get rest. This behavior should be part of the handbook rules.

When I got there, I was scared and alone. I didnt know where to go and was really grateful for the food and the shelter. But the longer i stayed, the more I started to notice how corrupt this place really is. The food was outdated, no balance in the diet. You would get written up for the simplest things. They exited people all the time and re-victimized the people by threatening to lock them out if they cant come before curfew. I see no problem with that tactic with KIDS but with grown adults with jobs of all kind of shift hours, I think that was completely unreasonable. And it wasnt like the staff wasnt aware of their clients shift hours; we were required to tell our client manager our shift hours if they do not fall into the curfew. While I was a resident of the Shade Tree, my experience was changed since the recent COVID-19 outbreak locked us down while I was staying. Because of this change, I am not fully capable of painting out all the flaws and graces of The Shade Trees normal regulations but still even a minor quarrel was reduced to an exiting of a person, if not, a contract which meant u were on thin ice. Even the donations, which are for the clients, were sorted through the staff before it got to us and some generous people donate new supplies, even brand name clothing, which we never see. Plus this organization is based on population. The more people they have, the more money they accumulate through the government. That means this place is usually packed (and theyre not above adding more people than what is allowed just to get more money) Whats even worse is that Ive seen people be placed in apartments, and that sounds great but guess what? Its a nightmarish trap! The whole housing system is corrupt. They keep u in apartment complexes that are with The Shade Tree to keep you in a circle, to keep you begging. The only thing they help with is first months rent. As much as Im grateful for not being on the streets and being fed and clean, this place was completely fake and corrupt. But I will not say the staff was bad. Throughout that while experience, I fell in love with the wonderful staff. They were kind to me and were willing to listen to me and provide me with necessities.

My 5 children and I were extremely grateful for Noahs animal house. They kept our kitty until we found a home. Also, a woman working there named Genie was a godsend... My kids loved her, I loved her; she reminded me of my mother. As for the actual human shelter... Oh god. It is the worst Ive ever been in. Bedbugs are the number one problem. They did try to get rid of them, but wow. Wow. My kids looked like they had been beaten with all the welts they had from being bitten. You could lift up the sheet corner and see them crawling amongst their own bloody feces. Also, I get the day shelter part... But. Mixing the severely mentally ill among families isnt right. There should be separate areas. Some of these women were dangerous to themselves and others and should have been screened to get help beyond coming into a day shelter with children and mothers present.I agree with another reviewer, the showers were disgusting. Mold on the curtains and walls, we all showered with flip flops.But... I would never want this place to be shut down. The only reason being Noahs animal house. It is wonderful for those of us that fear leaving our animals in an abusive situation or losing them forever. Just please, please clean up the human part of shade tree.

The 5 star reviews on this post are from STAFF not actual clients. The staff at the Shade Tree are incompetent and has 0 compassion or empathy. This place is horrible and filthy, it smells like a sewer. Mold is growing in the bathrooms, the food is cold disgusting and outdated. The staff is lazy, steals donations are unprofessional and show favoritism to only the clients who are addicts and scam artists like they are. Several babies have literally died from the mold exposure viruses and diseases acquired from The Shade Tree. If you dont believe me GOOGLE the Shade Tree it has been shut down several times due to the deaths and scheming staff and Directors. From the moment I entered that place I feared for my safety and the safety of the clients. The women fight around the children daily and the staff is too afraid and unqualified to diffuse the situation. You will develop a serious viral infection within a week and may be hospitalized (it happens to EVERYONE who breathes the air). If the viral infection doesnt hurt you, food poisoning will. This place should be shut down IMMEDIATELY! Im afraid more people will die due to these conditions. Please dont take your children here. The staff are all former residents and recovering addicts and have stolen clients social security numbers and personal information and they still work there. They treat you like youre less than human I wouldnt recommend this place to my enemy. The Rescue Mission is a much better option if youre in immediate need.

I worked for the shade tree for 5 yrs in that 5 yrs. I learned alot and was very happy with the job I was doing. The tide has turned and on Dec 14th I was fired from my job because I didnt respond to things the way my supervisor wanted me to. I took a couple of years of being step and go fetch it for my supervisor as long as I agreed and was her right hand man she was happy. I dud have opinions of my own and thought things could be handled better and the prigram could be developed more in which I had hopes of contributing to. The longer I stayed the more defeated I became. Management ( leadership team) were friends including HR so your complaints were never truly heard. In fact I was supposed to have a meeting this monday about a complaint letter that I wrote but before that could happen i was fired due to new information. I suppose it was a text message I sent telling one of my teams i might not be there after Monday and I was tired of getting blocked from trying to create different things. But that they were amazing to work with. I also assume it was because i informed one of the employees that the DOP stated she was going to put on the heat with her until she decided to quit because she didnt want to fire her..oh and something about intimidation(still dont understand that one). So I was told I cant get rides home or to work from staff even though im not on the clock either time. I guess the most hurtful part about it is I worked my butt of everyone depended on me for answers or to fix problems incuding my DOP. For 5 years I was dedicated there before everyone left after everyone. Employee of the year and employee of the month twice. Do you know how I Was fired....over the phone. 5 years and it was reduced to a phone call. Since I have been there even the most worse cases of being fired had someone sit with them in an office and tell them to their face they were fired. The funny part is I had a conversation with my DOP before and I said promise me if you have to fire me you be present and look me in my face to do it. She replied I promise if that ever happens I will give you that respect welp there goes that. Its not all bad , the clients are not always difficult and the staff does try to the best of their ability to manage. There were great times and I will miss those, but for now another chapter ends. Its very disheartening that my feelings for the place that I got so much from have changed so drastically. So Thank you Shade Tree for the experience but Shame on you for the disappointment.

I was a resident here a few years ago, and yes, there were some problems. However, because I am a woman who truly cares about the plight of women and children, I have stopped by to meet the new director to discuss past issues and how we can make positive changes for the Shade Tree, and she is very open to communication and fixing any and all problems. She has started a discussion group once a month on Saturday that I already know will be incredibly positive and transforming. Communication is key. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” I know there are many people in the Las Vegas community who also care about empowering women and children. The more we communicate, share ideas, contribute, volunteer, and come up with solutions to problems that may occur, the better we can help those who truly need it. Let’s think positive and share a vision of change, healing and empowerment. WE are the change.

This shelter offers horrible conditions. The bathrooms are dirty and moldy. While yes the facility does serve food, it is tasteless and horribly prepared. The portions are small with nutritional content that is rarely balanced.Donors will provide the shelter with plenty of donations. Food, clothing, toys, toiletries ect, the women will rarely see any of those things unless they ask for everyday for up to a week. The facilities are dark and dank with no visible source of uplifting environment. I have personally stayed at the shade tree. And will never recommend anyone to stay there unless the want to become sick from the germs, lost with no assistance on how to get out of poverty, and irritated by a system that doesnt care about their progression.

One star is very generous! More generous than this place deserves. If all that was wrong was the sewer smell in the dining area, the frequent lack of hot water in the showers, the ridiculously unsanitary conditions, and food that shouldnt even be fed to dogs then I could justify giving this place credit for at least helping homeless women and children or women and children fleeing domestic violence but they dont even legitimately help in those instances. I know people who went there and stayed for weeks without even being assigned a case worker. There have been persistent rumors that this dump would close down but I dont believe that it will shut down on its own. Unfortunately, something tragic or sensational will have to happen for the people of Las Vegas to shut this horrible place down! The Shade Tree isnt an environmentally healthy option for domestic violence survivors with children or homeless women or children. They arent helpful in the least and the conditions are 3rd world level deplorable. And yes the staff is notorious for taking donations and keeping them for themselves. Donations are very rarely, if ever distributed to the clients. If you dont believe this review or the other reviews, I challenge you to spend 24/48 hours in The Shade Tree and see if what this and the other negative reviews are just from angry, disgruntled, and entitled women who are ungrateful. You go take your children to get bitten by bed bugs and terrorized by rodents. You go and try to shower and use the restroom in moldy, unsanitary conditions. You go and get treated like garbage from staff who are suppose to be there to help you but do nothing but string you along and exploit you and your children while collecting federal, state and county funds and donations to remain open but not provide the help that they claim to provide to domestic violence survivors and homeless women and children.

I am worried about the mentality that you should be grateful to live in subhuman conditions just because you are at a crossroads in life. Staff take home and sell DONATIONS. Trying to get anything for yourself or children is damn near impossible, roaches in the kitchen crawling over everything we forget children EAT here. Staff take home select donated food items they want for themselves, I heard a staff member verbatim say she racks up in the donations basement. Staff members lie on residents have no formal domestic violence training or education so have no idea that their behavior is harmful to abused women and children. It is ran like a prison rather than a haven where you can get back on your feet, bathrooms with urine and feces and blood no toilet paper or hand soap out breaks of strep throat bed bug bites and pink eye plague residents and CHILDREN. It seems as if no one cares, this is a place to stuff the forgotten of society out of sight out of mind kind of thing. If this were happening in someones home child services would remove your children yet a place like this can operate under these conditions Im confused. They DO NOT HELP with housing it employment anyone I have seen with a job or a place to go had to do so theres which is why women end up coming back. I understand no place is perfect but to allow a place to get this bad is shameful. They only stress resident cleaning when they have donors coming to look at the place. Any other time there are no cleaning g supplies and you are not allowed to purchase your own. Ive seen newborn babies in this place something has to be done. No one is holding staff who get paid to steal and show up, accountable. People really need help bit you shouldnt have to live like less than a human being to receive it. I hope someone really takes a look at how the $ is being spent and that the program is providing the services they claim to provide. God bless all the woman and children who find themselves displaced and in need of help. I understand ❤

The security are creepy they are suppose to state when a man is on the floor before entering female dorms or floors where they are being treated clinic on 3rd floor. Staff are rude cursing at clients and constantly threatening them writeups if they dont like you or your children. The list go on and on. Mentality stressful environment. Could be a good place if had better management off staff that actually wanted to help not hinder the clients staying there.

Honestly when I first got there I was very disgusted at the conditions and the treatment by most of the staff. Im still disgusted at the conditions of the bathroom. My daughter caught food poisoning here and also had a seizure here, but I will say that Dmoss (worker) is amazing. She knows how to treat and deescalate situations really well. Thank God for people like her who work at this place. I still think this place in unsanitary, and the food at times are very disgusting. They put on amazing events for the kids. Not sure if it is just because the holidays, but my daughter has gotten many gifts and the bless fest at calvary chapel was amazing. You just have to lock up and hide all your items there are many thieves and jealous woman here. The showers have black mold. I cant believe they still think thats okay for woman that have already been put through so much. But it is a roof so Im appreciative that me and my kids are not in the elements. Im got sick but Bonnie the doctors on the 3rd floor is amazing and is on her stuff. She gets your meds quickly. Love her. I had to rewrite my review because after 2 weeks of being here Ive learned to love a lot of the workers here and a lot of the women here. God is good. I just pray that they do something about the bathroom, showers and most of all the way some woman are being treated by the staff. Its not jail. Its suppose to be a place to regroup. Some of the staff need to understand more about being a domestic violence victim before working here, and they definitely need a janitor and better cleanliness. Ive made a lot of friends here. I love when woman can get together and empower each other. Some of the classes that they make us attend are actually amazing and worth coming to. The security is rude. But there is one who is amazing and I look forward to seeing him every time Im coming in because he reminds some of us that there are still good people out there, and doesnt treat us like we are being revictimize like how you feel when you use the restrooms or the showers, or eat at lunch. The lunch manager and I have spoken at first she came off to me a little rude, but she had a talk with me after reading my review. She is a sweet person and genuinely cares about some of the ladies here, Im thankful for her. I wish they did a little better for the women and children there. It doesnt take much. There is a gang in there consisting of about 5 girls, they volunteer a lot so there not removed when they act stupid. Ive watched them bully so many and so many of the advocates has witnessed it but they still there strong. I chose to leave the program, because I felt me and my child was unprotected.

This place treats women and children terrible. A woman had a seizure and the staff just stood there and watched. One of the women living here had to call the ambulance. The food randomly gives everyone food poisoning. The building is in horrible condition, close to unliveable. Mold in every shower, bed bugs and staff theft. The staff holds resources and information from the clients to slow them down and keep them here longer. They only allow visitors and volunteers into certain areas on certain days at certain times. The people working here lack compassion and arent really people oriented. I saw them put a woman with a new born out on the street in the middle of the night. They get millions in CASH donations year round and claim they have, limited resources. I saw a huge donation from Platex including so, underwear, tampons and bras. When the volunteers started handing them out to the women in the shelter, the staff quickly stopped them and the entire donation disappeared the next day. I dont know who to report this place to or if they can be reported but something needs to happen before someone dies again.

I tried going for intake last night. The security guard yelled at me for signing on the wrong clip board and said it was my fault because I didnt read the top of the sheet. Sounds like my abusive husband. Everything is my fault because Im stupid. Then I waited in an ugly, smelly, cold room for an hour with very little contact with anyone. Abother intake came in and 10 minutes later, they took her in. I was humiliated aND wentertainment hone to my abusIve husband. Youd think a womans shelter would have more compassion.
