I agree with the review about the Bitter Shrunken Manager. I had a run in with this person. Give it some time, she won’t be there long. Most people don’t last at that store. Must be the working environment.

No better spot in the area when you’re working on a project. Great selection of materials at solid prices - super helpful staff. Mike in particular is a rockstar - multiple times I’ve stopped in with a loose idea for a DIY project and he’s helped me plan it out and find the right equipment. Obviously smaller selection than a big store like HD but way better experience.

I came in to buy some M5 screws. Unfortunately, what was labeled as M5 had a 0.4mm pitch when it should have a 0.8mm pitch.(The other pictured screw which I was trying to replace has the correct 0.8mm pitch.)

This is a great local hardware send housewares store. In addition to a great hardware section, the housewares and furnishings are very much targeted at the transient move-in move-out people with pretty much everything to complete furnishing an apartment. They have a big cleaning section section too. Try here before you go a big box stores, slightly more extensive but it will save you a lot of time

I received excellent service from this store when I lost my receipt I needed for business. Annaliese went through many extra steps to recover the receipt and got it to me, saving a lot of trouble on my end.

Overpriced with extremely limited inventory. Bought a batch of paint and it turned they mixed the wrong color for me. Haven’t noticed that until I got home. When came to return was extremely rude told that the do to except paint as a return and I should have checked what color was mixed for me. Was not offered an alternative solution such as a gift card instead of a refund. I was using that store as a primary source of all my remodeling needs. Now driving a mile further to Home Depot!

They have basically anything you may want for home repairs and improvements! Staff is great too.

Tags can be a bit hit or miss with customer service but there are many people here who are friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommend going here due to the amazing product selection. Also, the guy who works on the 1st floor in the kitchen goods section is amazingly helpful and can answer any question you have. That being said stay away from the area where the keys are cut. For some reason the people who work in that area are less than helpful.

Prices are steep but, great items. More than youd expect from a hardware store.

Was an exhibitor at Lunder Arts Center and we needed to construct a banner set-up in a hurry, I decided to make it out of some plumbers PVC and the team custom cut all my pieces to length with no complaint. Super helpful, a real deal hardware store where you can get service not one of those useless box stores :-P

Pathetic customer service. I prepaid/ordered an item that was out of stock and was told I would be called when it arrived. No one called and I went in twice over several weeks to ask about it and got a bad attitude from two different clerks who both said they would call when it was in. I went a third time and was told by a third clerk that my item was sold because I didnt come to pick it up for a month. Evidently it was there the entire time, yet no one I asked bothered to check.

This place is decent. Has competitive prices with Amazon. I feel like upstairs is better organized then the downstairs. People who work there are mostly helpful.

Went in to get some simple cuts of a 2x4 , which I was going to purchase from the store. It was noon and the store was empty. Mustachioed man downstairs was rude and uncooperative for an extremely simple request. I like the store and have spent much money there, but will go to Amazon from now on I spose. Hope they enjoy the brick and mortar while it lasts.

I live in Porter but always drove to Target for home goods. Believe me when I say the selection at Tags blows them away. I find the items to be of better quality. You may pay a bit more but I feel that it is for things that you actually want and will enjoy instead of whatever is cheapest or available. I enjoy talking to knowledgeable sales people and have always had the friendliest of service

Use to be great place to shop. When ever I go in I find the staff unfriendly with the attitude that they are doing me a favor to take my money. Last time I returned what I had purchased after 10 minutes... I started walking out and thought I do not want to give my money to such a rude business. Its too bad they do have nice stuff (it can be found else where) and before it was sold a few years ago it was a fun, friendly place to shop.

I have shopped here for about 15 years. It is conveniently located near the Porter Square red line train station and has lots of parking. Because it is a busy location as part of a larger commercial center, it lacks the feel and helpfulness of a local hardware store. It is overpriced as you are paying for the convenience. (Blue painters tape can cost as much as $2 more per roll.) The owner is well-intentioned, but when I mentioned to her that I had to throw away 7 potted house plants because the soil I added to them from her store was laced with fly eggs, she had no response. How about an apology or a store credit?The store offers a discount for teachers and students. I am a teacher, but I was once told by a cashier that I couldnt get the discount. I was unhappy when I believed I was given the wrong change for a small purchase with no consideration that an error might have been made. The cashier counted the money in her drawer, determined on her own that I was wrong and she was 100% right, she couldnt possibly have made a mistake, and followed me to the door interrupting me and insisting I was wrong. No attempt at understanding. No kindness. No going back.

This is one of the best stores around, family owned, well managed and a pleasure to visit. Staff are assigned to float the store to help customers. (Whoever panned the hardware section was cranky that day.) Ive always had knowledgeable help, unlike in any medium to megastore chain I have visited. Tags staff seem cheerful working at Taps. Heres to locally owned, well managed staff!

Simply the best hardware store in the area. They have everything from kitchen appliances and bathroom supplies upstairs to nuts and bolts downstairs. If youre lucky, they often have free popcorn for you to munch on while you browse around.

Have been there several times while my son lives around the corner. Once waited over 15 min while clerk chatted with customer about current events, when asked if I could get key to release small wrench was told he could help me after helping other customer. Just came back from trying to demonstrate politeness to extremely surly cashier. Bought disposable spackle knife and they put permanent sticker right over blade edge. Most staff seem unknowledgeable about repairs, poorly trained, and rude. Prices are considerably higher than other nearby stores. Worth driving elsewhere if you have time.

Ive been to Tags a few times and had mixed experiences with service. The staff usually at least tries to help, although sometimes they cant answer basic questions. But today, I was unpleasantly surprised. Eversource is sponsoring a promotional discount on LED bulbs. I noticed them in a display downstairs, the price was good, so I added ten of them to my basket. I was checking out when a different cashier interrupted by just saying, Twos the limit. This was news to my cashier, and news to me, since there was no information in the display about a limit. I mentioned this, and the second cashier just repeated herself, Twos the limit. She did not apologize. She was unpleasant. She showed me another display upstairs that did have a sign about the limit--as if I should have seen this other display and therefore should have known. She said she was a supervisor, which does not say much for customer service at Tags.

Wont check stock levels if you call ahead and then you waste the trip to go there because its not in stock (happened twice to me). Long lines. No-knowledge employees means you cant ask for advice. Take the time to drive to home Depot.

Love tags for mid to high quality items. Their staff is very helpful and I havent been disappointed by anything Ive gotten there.

Service in the hardware store section is horrible. If youre a woman, that is. Theyre extremely condescending and unhelpful. I went in looking for nuts, and had to explain multiple times until the guy understood what I needed, even though I was extremely clear.They also have special tools for women--miniature hammers that wouldnt accomplish anything and are covered in pastel flowers...

I was just in Tags Hardware this morning. Sorry about the one star but one bad apple.... Heres what happened. As I walked in, I was approached by a man that asked if he could help me. His speech was so fast, I had to ask him to repeat himself. He told me what I was looking for was downstairs. I went downstairs, inquired with a nice (but busy) clerk who gave me directions to the item I was looking for. Got it and proceeded upstairs. Heres the clincher....went to the checkout....was asked if I had some type of rewards account. No, I do not have one. Checked out and was given the price. insert my chip card, picked up my item and that was IT. What was IT you may ask? No thank you...no come back to visit us soon...nothing. NADA! Actually, the would love to be some place other than here look didnt surprise of the no gratitude for shopping there. hmmmm..!!! I wanted to report this in a survey, but unfortunately that is not included on their receipt like most other businesses. Hmmmmmm, again!
