My daughter called me on 2/16/2019 that she was having issues with her Hyundai Santa Fe. She said when she gave the car gas it was hard to get it to accelerate. She said she felt like the parking brake was on. I checked the brake fluid and it was almost empty so I filled it to get her home. I called this shop and scheduled a brake job. I wanted new brakes put on whether or not it needed it. Since she was low on brake fluid that led me to believe there was a brake issue that needed attention. The owner told me that there was nothing wrong with her brakes and that she had 1/2 brake pads left. He said that most likely whoever put the last set of brake pads on the car neglected to fill the brake reservoir after bleeding the brakes! She paid the man $52.50 for the diagnosis. She drove the vehicle home and said it was still driving funny and didnt drive it again for 2 days because she stayed home sick from work. She drove the vehicle from Mt Pleasant to Burlington for work, 3 days after it was in this shop. She called me because she said it still felt like it did before it went to the shop.I took it for a drive and noticed the hesitation upon acceleration. It had a shimmy while driving it down the highway. I stopped and checked the parking brake and it was off. When I pulled up to my mailbox to get the mail I smelled something hot. I parked the vehicle and walked around the car and the front drivers side rim was hot to touch. When we removed the tire to check the brakes the pistons were seized in the caliper, the brake pads were cracked and the rotor was worn. Yes, there was 1/2 brake pad on the front, but what good does that do when the caliper isnt functioning correctly?! If you look closely you can see the damage the heat did to the pads and rotor. You can see that the pads are cracked. I do not believe this man took the time to take a tire off and actually check the brakes like he should have. If he didnt want to fix my daughters car he should have said so! My daughters safety is my concern. Obviously this business owner does not care about his customers like he should. I would NOT recommend this repair shop to ANYONE. He might be a nice guy but his work ethics are not where they should be.
