My buddy Douglas referred me to him I spoke with Charles and he took time to explain every detail what could be going on with my tranny and what can be done and everything else he was extremely fair, knowledgeable!

First this guy tells me that my truck couldnt have rolled out of the factory with the transmission that I know it has(1990 c3500, trans is sm465, factory option). We argue briefly, then he looks under my vehicle and admits that i am right. First clue: shop didnt even have alldata or an equivalent to look at for reference.Then i ask him for a price on a full rebuild and he gives me a ridiculous number shy of 3 grand. Keep in mind that this is a FOUR SPEED MANUAL and that it is 2wd, meaning there is no front diff to pull. This is over a thousand dollars higher than the quote i got from a very professional looking shop on north college in south bryan which did possess both alldata or an equivalent(and therefore did not argue with me incorrectly about what drivetrain my truck had from the factory) and high end snap-on diagnostic equipment.I tell him this sounds very high for such a simple transmission and he replies that snap ring pliers and transmission jacks(two of the tools required for this job) can both be bought at harbor freight.They may have a nice lift, but they dont seem knowledgeable and certainly arent friendly. I wouldnt pay them to put a go-cart on it.
