Gigantic selection of new and used books on two different levels! There is something for everyone here - childrens books, classics, contemporary/new releases, graphic novels, a fantastic science fiction collection, and many cards and small trinkets that would be great for a last minute gift. Staff were very friendly and polite. It is fairly large inside, so it is easy to browse and still maintain social distancing.

Even after 500+ 5-star reviews, Im compelled to add another. This bookstore is my favorite in the area, no question. Their used section is full of popular books at a significant discount, and in great condition. And they have great deals on all sorts of new books too. Everyone on staff is so kind and friendly. I now go out of my way to do my book shopping here.

One of my new favorite places in Boston, it has an amazing range of books and usually will have a selection of books on sale. The basement contains used books as well.My favorite part is the home section which sells everything from cookware and cookbooks to jewelry, candles, dishes, tea, coffee, clothes, and more! They even have a small selection of drinks and snacks available. They have so many amazing looking books and products, you can spend a while in here just looking at everything.Be sure to bring your own bag, as they dont provide by default.

This place is a treasure - a place of books & ideas, a place where imagination, creativity, whimsy & scholarship are respected & nurtured. To me this is about as holy a place as retail can aspire to & therefore, IMHO, is worthy of our support. If you are or have been a customer, you know exactly what Im talking about. If youve never visited, give yourself a break from all stresses out there & journey into TBB to investigate for yourself; your mind & spirit will thank you.

Brookline Booksmith is a staple of Brookline. They have a great staff, new books, suggested books, old books, and they just expanded! Ive gone several times over the years and gotten great deals. I love the Brookline Booksmith! It’s one of my favorite local bookshops - they always have a great selection of books and gifts, and I love the addition of The Novel Kitchen collaboration with local cheese shop Curds & Co. It’s truly a one stop shop, especially during the holiday season. With tons of bestsellers, as well as rare and more obscure titles, you can grab a few books, along with gifts and cards for Christmas and Hanukkah, get your wrapping paper, pick up a few puzzles (or even some jewelry or socks!), and enjoy some cheese and wine before you leave. 10/10 recommend!

Very cute bookstore, lots of great things you can get as gifts. Very rude staff, obviously welcomed every white customer who entered the store, ignored the 2 of us, Black and brown women) when we entered and were rude to us when they had to direct us to their new check out area (something they didnt have signs up for at least). Also not sure if this was due to it being a new check out area, but my card was declined 3 times even as I checked my balance IN STORE and after I left. Funds were there, and my card was working fine at every other location that day, before, and after.

Brookline Booksmith is my favorite bookstore in the Boston area. My only objection is they read stories on transgender persons to children at childrens hour during a trans week. They said it helps promote empathy (if thats the case, you could accomplish the same thing with a disability week). Its such a complicated issue, that I doubt this is useful for children at this level and seems to me more of a projection of cultural priorities onto the children. In addition, some of the literature by female authors promoted by the bookstore seem to be driven by rage rather than character development. In general, I dont see much value in any literature where the entire point of the book is to bring you into the perspective of being trans, female, or etc. That is not yet a book. To simply be a piece or rage or an alternative perspective is not enough to qualify as aesthetic, or a piece of literature. So, thats one promotional trend I dont like.

A quaint and spectacular bookshop. There are plenty of books to grab your interests without overwhelming you. It has fun and artsy gifts you wont find elsewhere. Especially a coloring book of Idris Elba! The staff is immensely attentive if needed, knowing what book you shoukd read next. However, if youre an introvert, like many readers, the staff wrote several recommendations and their reasonings behind the recommendations all over the shop. That way, you can get an idea of what book you may want to read next without interacting with anyone. I recommend the store for anyone interested in a neighborhood bookstore.

Went downstairs to the used book area as I was directed by the woman upstairs to look for a title that was not on the main sales floor. To my surprise an invent was being held with a guest speaker Down there. I quietly walked over to the bearded gentleman in the beanie behind the desk and politely asked if I could be down there he replied yes if I was quiet (which I was). I proceeded to ask him if he knew where I could find the title (still whispering) he proceeded to snap at me Dude I can’t I’m doing this right now”. Doing what? Not working? Watching a speaker while on the job? You’d think I was harassing the guy for crying out loud. If it was such an issue why did you tell me I could be down there??? I replied ok I didn’t know and backed up with an awkward grin since I was thrown off guard by his sudden attitude. I’ll definitely think twice now before I ask an employee something while there if I do go back.
