The staff is always friendly. I love shopping there. My 3 stars is because of the selling experiences I have had. I would just like some clarification on how they decide what they will purchase and what they will not. I brought in clothing in great shape and some was even nice name brand stuff. Do you not buy it if you already have a lot of specific items in stock or specific sizes? Out of the 20 ish items I brought in only winter boots were bought. I really just want to be informed of that since I feel insulted knowing the nice clothing I was trying to sell would appear to not be good enough.

Every time I call this store, I deal with someone who is so rude to me. For simply asking a question. Also, they have a policy to only give store credit for walk in appointments, but then when I go to their website there are no appointments for October and I cant make one for November. But then if you call the Tampa Once Upon a Child in Britton Plaza and people are nice and they will still pay cash. Its sad that I have to drive 14 miles out to South Tampa when this location is not even a mile from my home.

I wouldn’t even give this store one star. I have always shopped at once apon a child. We recently moved and this location is closest to us now. I will continue to drive 45 minutes to the Lakeland location before I will ever step foot back into this store, let alone spend a dime in there. I have a medical exception and can not wear a face mask. There is absolutely no mask mandate in the city or state. I walked into the store and was literally harassed from the second I walked in. I was told to put a mask on if I wanted to shop, I explained I had an exemption and could not wear one. The lady literally chased me around the store telling me to leave and I could use curb side pick up for future shopping. They don’t have a website with all of their clothing listed to even order curb side? Curb side is only used for their big items that are posted on their Facebook page. So how can those with medical issues shop? I hope the lady I encountered isn’t the owner but if she is, it’s a shame. She was more worried about someone wearing a mask then treating customers with human decency.

Cons: The staff are rude more often than not, overall just not a friendly environment. Selling to them is a rip off I honestly only sell to them because I keep my things in pretty good condition and I always hope that someone who really needs it comes and and find it for a fraction of the cost. And I always feel good when I come in and find something that I really need, so I sell to them as a pay it forward, I could easily sale my items on Facebook market place for double of what once upon a child offers. But its worth losing out a little bit to hopefully help other parents find nice items too. But taking nice clothes to them isnt worth it, anything you take to them in bulk they definitely rip you off, 40 items may yield you $10 if youre lucky.Pros: I like this place for decent toys and baby items that you dont use for long like the highchairs, bouncers, floor swings. I dont like used clothes because usually they are not true to size after being washed so often. And I hate digging through racks and racks and racks of items.Pros: This is a great place to come if you are shopping on a budget or if you like a good deal, sometimes you may come and find exactly what youre looking for at a fraction of the cost.

This place is a rip off when you give them things they need. They refuse to take used items we took in. They expect things to be brand new. Tried to give them a practical lot brand new bassinet that was used once and in perfect condition that cost over $200, argued that it was dirty and wanted to give me $12 for it because it didnt come with the things they thought it came with me because they looked up the wrong item. Do not take things to this place unless you plan on spending money on brand new items and want very little back. RIP OFF!

Staff and management are rude, uneducated and are no help at all. Take your business to another store where the staff is helpful and polite. They could care less if they get your business or not. Im curious as to why with so many reviews pointing out the rudeness and unprofessionalism of staff that these employees are still with them. That is no way to run a business and the biggest red flag that they do not have a business model for operating in retail.

I honestly wish I could give this location a more positive review. Today was my second visit to this store and I was hoping it would be better than my first. I enjoy buying second hand clothing and supporting small businesses for my childrens clothing since we do have to buy it so often as they grow, however this store consistently sells very worn and poor condition clothing for ridiculous prices. I actually found multiple torn items, stained items, and items being sold for more than what the store sells them for brand new, today during my visit. Goodwill carries better quality clothing for half the price if Im being completely honest. I try not to be frustrated with the buying process at the store because I understand you have to buy what the store is in need of inventory wise, however if you are going to turn away my excellent condition name brand clothing, the please do us all a favor and put things on the rack that arent in awful condition. I left disappointed again today as I could not fathom paying 7$ for a pair of Infant pants that were much more than just gently loved . Lastly, like many of the reviews below me, your staff is less than welcoming. Today as I walked in I didnt not even get a hello or a welcome just a are you here to sell as 4 employees watched me struggle into the store with a box of clothes and two toddlers. As mentioned by other reviewers, the employees do appear very lazy and unprofessional and seem to spend more time chatting with eachother than tending to customer service. I hope you guys can get it together, I have been to some great once upon a child stores, and this one simply is not one of them. Sadly I am not the only disappointed Mom in the area when it comes to this location.

This location doesnt even deserve a single star. I have shopped here for several years with my mother and the prices have gone up astronomically. Ive sold here 3 times and all my encounters were unpleasant. Very poor and unfriendly customer service, most of the workers lazily chatting away with each other while lines are forming at the register. They show no sense of urgency. While waiting for my clothes to be processed I noticed many items that were VERY worn with holes or stains, selling them for more than what Ive seen them for in the store. Im not paying $6.50 for a single pair of used pants when I can buy new ones for the same price. When I go to pick up my items they offer me practically pennies when a lot items have the tags still on them. I brought in over $100 in clothes and was offered around $5 in store credit. Id rather see my items donated to a family in need than to sell to greedy scam artists. My entire family has also experienced this at this location and refuses to shop or sell here ever again.

I cannot Express how helpful this place was with our first born. People say kids are expensive but I beg to differ. Everything we got gifted during the baby shower, we used and of course kept clean and looking new and once our son outgrew something or we no longer used it, we would take our things and sell it to OUAC and getting store credit was so clutch. I honestly think all we have ever bought our son out of pocket is diapers at Aldi. They have good inventory and if you need something for travel, like snow jackets, ask them and they will take you to the back.

I actually stopped selling clothes, toys, etc. Because of the policy and guidelines on how items are bought and sold. I believe second hand items should be a lot more reasonable. I have found clothes in the clearance section at department stores for cheaper. Nonetheless I still come every shoe size change to grab four or five pairs of shoes for my son. It usually comes out to a total of $25 or so. Which is a steal for me. Maybe a different organization system for the shoes would help my trips be a little shorter.

Review №67

I’ve debated writing this numerous times and I’ve always decided against it, hoping for a more positive experience at a future visit. But it never happens. To start, I’m a frequent thrifter/consignment shop buyer (four kids from 13 to 2) and have been to this particular location no less than 10 times. The other locations I’ve been to (Britton Plaza, Wesley Chapel, North Tampa) are absolutely wonderful. They’re welcoming to children and kind to potential consignors. The stores are clean and well-kept, organized and aesthetically pleasing, and the prices are reasonable. This location unfortunately fails on every one of those bullet points. But there is one employee in particular that I’ve witnessed on repeated occasions act so unprofessionally, it’s abhorrent. First, children are a nuisance here. They won’t allow children to play with the toys (which every other location does because, well, it’s a CHILDREN’S consignment store). On one occasion, the previously mentioned employee heard a crash (which was a shoe bin falling from the racks) and loudly exclaimed that everyone needed to “find the kids because this isn’t a playground and we aren’t a babysitting service.” I understand making parents mind their children but if I’m in an aisle and my child is at the end of that aisle looking at the MASSIVE pile of toys? There shouldn’t be any issue with that. If you don’t want kids running to play with the toys, put them on shelving units. This same employee has also been incredibly condescending to consignors. On three separate occasions, I heard her tell potential consignors their stuff was: too wrinkly (while I’m looking at a Gap dress with a stain for $8.50), not organized well enough, etc. She also was extremely rude to consignors by saying it would be hours before she could get to their things and she couldn’t guarantee they’d want any of it. She was rude as soon as she saw them enter with a bin of clothes. I heard two women apologize to her for absolutely no reason solely because her tone is so brash. While what she’s telling them is correct, it’s her tone. It’s patronizing at best and disdainful if I’m being completely honest. I’ve also heard this same employee (which I’m assuming is a manager) speaking on the phone to someone ABOUT another employee or manager. Loudly and without regard for the customers in the store. Then there’s the store itself. Behind the counter/registers, it’s an absolute disaster. I’ve never seen a retail establishment with such a disorganized and unkempt area that customers actually see. The store itself follows suit, with things stuffed in every corner making it hard to navigate the aisles with a cart, let alone children with you. Lastly, the prices. I will attach pictures of the prices they were demanding for a dirty, stained pair of old Pumas. This is NOT the case at other locations. While they claim that they just enter the brand in the computer, that is false. I had a friend that ran a location in Washington state and one that ran a location in Georgia and both assured me that prices were determined by whoever was pricing. Asking $7.50 for a Cat & Jack Dress is insane, even IF it’s hard to find or highly sought after. I do not take writing this lightly; I have only ever written one other negative review in my adult life. But this employee/manager needs some serious lessons on consumer relations and management. At the very least, a brush up on how to deal with customers in a retail setting. It’s clear the manager is either burned out or simply dislikes her job. It’s unfair that the customers have to suffer because of this. As someone with a master’s in HR, I felt it imperative to make someone aware of these issues as they can negatively impact profits if something isn’t done. I likely won’t return to this location even though I’ve found a few gems here and there. If you’re looking for a stellar OUAC experience, go visit Britton Plaza, Wesley Chapel, or North Tampa. You won’t find it here, sadly.

I like this store a lot! I love the clothes, toys, and accessories (some are brand new from vendors). I have to say the biggest reason I like this store is that its clean! Ive been to some places that have a musty smell, but NOT THIS PLACE! Things are organized and well kept. The only drawback I have are the isles are very tight for my stroller, the cash wrap isnt set up right (cant handle lines of people), and they dont give you a lot for your stuff. But I look at it like this, the hassle of selling online, meeting someone that may not show, and/or shipping your items, may not be worth it overall. Its easier to bring it there, get cash, and spend your extra time on other things.

Welp... that was the last time. I keep trying this place because I like the idea of selling and buying barely used baby and kid stuff, but I wont be back. Everytime I go, I am made to feel like a terrible inconvenience. I visited the store in Lakeland and its such a different experience. For instance, when I brought in my items to sell in Brandon, the lady helping me talked so fast and threw a pen and paper at me to fill out. Then stood there watching me as if I was taking too long, tapping her finger on the counter like she was on the verge of a fit. In Lakeland, however, I was warmly greeted and the person filled out the paper for me, asking only for the info she needed and not wasting either of our time by having me filling out unnecessary blanks. When I came back for my items, the same lady in Brandon acted again like I was a jerk for asking for the cash instead of store credit. The customer behind me was horrified with her behavior as well and said something to her. Doesnt matter, this store is not worth the visit. Seems like customer service has always been an issue here (based on reviews going back years!) Wake up owners! Spend some money on quality employees and your business will improve!

I was a bit shocked considering that is what I expected for just the stroller. I didnt take the money that time around. That being said, my second experience with them was much better. We brought in clothes ranging from newborn-4T, a Step-2 slide, a baby swing, bouncer, the same Combi stroller, toddler bed and various other toddler toys and shoes. It did take them awhile to sort through our stuff, but I didnt mind since it seemed like they were really trying to pay attention to each item and give you a fair value. They didnt take all the clothes we brought in, but gave us $80 for less than a 1/3 of our items. This was MUCH higher than I expected for the clothes and was pleasantly surprised. As for big toddler toys, toddler bed, slide, baby swing etc they offered us $150, which we gladly accepted as well. All in all we walked away with $230 which was great for us! I think if you bring in a big selection of items it is much more worthwhile. We were able to sell all of our big items and a good selection of the clothes for about the same as we had priced the items for a garage sale. It was worth it to have two people sort your items as opposed to having a garage sale with 50+ people picking through your kids things. I highly recommend selling your used kids/baby items here if you have a large quantity to sell.

Since Google seems to know every place I go (scary), - a message popped up in my email to review Once Upon A Child - I decided to post my bad experience yesterday. Even though I have lived in the area for 16 years, I have probably only been to this store about 12 times - yet I do like to frequent consignment shops. I had some extra time so decided to give it another try.As usual, there were sizes which were mixed in the posted sizes on the racks. In the shoe bins, I couldnt even find matches - sizes all mixed together. (little shoes, big shoes all mixed together - I even tried to put some things in the correct spots)At checkout there was a line of 4 people, but several employees working. So we all wait while listening to the gals who were sorting clothes behind the counter. One customer purchased personalized barrettes. The price rang up higher than the price posted on the barrette carousel and the customer even questioned in. The cashier responded that they need to update the sign. The customer was SUPER NICE and suggested that they change it right away to let the customer know. I joked that if it was Publix, the item would be free. After the customer walked out, another employee walked over to see what the price issue was. She then informed the cashier that SHE scanned the price for the bracelet and not the barrettes. I said, So you over charged the customer ...and they asked me to go get her....she was already in the parking lot. Not sure they were pleased with me pointing this out - it was their mistake and now they were going to be inconvenienced. So the overcharged customer comes back into the store and the cashier does apologize to her and asked another employee to do the refund for her (there was 2 more customers to help). Instead of just giving her a dollar back, the customer had to give her name and other information (set up an account) - all because of the error made by the store. This customer was STILL SUPER NICE and PATIENT.While I know the customers mix up clothes and shoes, etc, it certainly seemed to me that some the gals working behind the counter could be tidying up the store instead of visiting up front. Just poor, poor customer service and I rarely recommend this store....

I have five children. So, Ive been to many many consignment shops. For the most part, I love them all. But this one...I was mortified at their prices. You will not find ANY piece of clothing for under $5.50. Not even a simple onesie. I saw a pair of black leggings for $7.00. I couldnt believe it. I have no idea how this place stays in business. I brought in 3 nerf guns that retail for about $40 a piece new. They offered me $6.50 for all three. Not each! I can see now, why it only has two stars. If your looking for a decent consignment shop in this area I recommend Lil Sprouts. Its on the corner of Kings and 60. They are family owned. Very honest people with extremely reasonable prices. If your on a budget, stay away from Once Upon A Child.

Took in a basket of never worn/gently worn clothing. They bought maybe 5 pieces and claimed the other had signs of wearing. When I said that was not true they said they have brighter lights so they can see better then I could at home. Nobody was mean or rude just kind of insulting. They had alot of clothes for sale, but it all looked the same. Prices seemed a little high for used clothing. Might go back in the future to shop for toys.

First off let me start by saying i do not think its okay to bring your infant to work with you. the lady who always carries her son on her back shouldnt be allowed to bring her baby there. she seems more attentive to her son more than she is to the customers. some outfits Ive seen had stains , rips and tears. it takes them forever to go threw the things you have brought in , many times i can hear the ladys talk trash about the person and the things they have brought in. although i do not come here often, i do find a couple of things i like . I rather shop at carters though.

We have the same store in fort myers. This one was okay. The clothes didnt seem and good as they are here in fort myers. There other stuff like play pens and such seemed to be in good condition. If you are looking for children items checking this place out first is the way to go, kids grow out of things so fast, and this is a great way to save money.

Today I quickly remembered why I have not been to Once Upon a Child in a long time. It is so difficult to shop with the employees constantly acting as if you are an inconvenience and in the way. When I was ready to pay for the few things I did find, I went to the cashier area, atleast 5 employees standing and no other customers waiting to pay. They just continued as if I was not there. Very poor customer service.

Prices are way too high!! I actually googled certain items on my phone while in store and found I could go to Wal-Mart and get the EXACT same toy or clothing brand new instead of used. Two of my items were EXACTLY alike but one was priced 4.50 and the other was 19.99. I asked why as it seemed to me that maybe different people were pricing things and she responded, Hmm, I dont know why but there must be some reason. The reason to me is....The place is a rip off!

They could be a little more organized plus they have plenty of employees but none of them seems to want to come to the register so they make you wait forever

I visited Once Upon A Child on a Tuesday evening. There was a staff of about 4 that night, and not one employee acknowledged my son and I until about 5 minutes after the fact, and we were standing right at the counter in the front of the store. The customer service was not up to par at all. Working in a childrens store, I expected the staff to be at least somewhat friendly, but they were far from it. I will not visit the Brandon location again because of the lack of customer service.

I have to, but hate to agree with the negative reviews here. I dread coming in because one specific staff member is very passive agressive and generally unpleasant. However, you can get good deals now and then especially if you sell and use store credit. I met the owner (I believe it was the owner) on Wednesday morning and he was the sweetest man so its a shame the store has the negative reviews that it does because of staff. There was however, a new girl working who I have to give a shout out to. She was very nice and informed me of a 10% off deal every Tuesday on whatever items you can put in the Once Upon A Child bags (reusable bags, theyre $3). Was never informed of that. I have also had the experience where I was told the most an hour for an offer for the things I brought in. I shopped around, asked for an update an hour later, was told another 15mins, gave it another half hour later, then finally asked should I just come back because the tension was getting akward each time I asked. The staff member looked at me like I was an inconvenience and had an attitude. I left and got called 7 hours later, which is fine, but dont tell me an hour and not update me if things change, especially if Im right there in the store. Hope the owners can figure out why the staff seems so unhappy and would love see the morale go up there.

I was basically in and out of this store. I usually go to the one on Dale Mabry or in Largo. This was just as big and selection was pretty large as well. My only complaint is their customer service stinks. Kinda felt like I was an inconvenience so I probably wouldnt shop again unless necessary.

Always a less than tolerable experience! Being a long time customer and then being a seller... Ill never be a customer again. Between the unbelievable disorganization and absolute chaos... I end up leaving wanting to curse them for their inability to communicate among themselves and with potential customers... And rip my hair out for believing that they might get their act together and giving them another chance.

Outrageous prices for used clothes. Found a walmart outfit that was suppose to have 3 pieces to it. They only had one of the pieces to the set and was asking more than what you could have got the 3 piece set at Walmart for brand new same price. Will not shop here anymore.

Ive sold her before as well as purchased but hated getting guilted in to not dropping off items because they close early. Either start posting cut off times visibly or just make do for the demand. Its a different story of youre talking about me missing a cut off time that is well known. But I can well within operating times. Its not a close drive for me to come here so it was a total waste of time. Completely disillusioned.
