I can’t recommend Defined Details highly enough! They designed, built and installed a custom pergola and wall feature on our back deck that is an absolutely stunning addition to our house and completely transformed our outdoor space. They create pieces that are equal parts function and art. We are thrilled with their craftsmanship, and Nicholas and Julie were wonderful to work with throughout the process.

Im sorry to say that we did not have a good experience with Defined Details. In personal terms, Nicholas and Julie are very friendly people, but their craftsmanship and responsiveness are not good.We had cabinets made by Defined Details, the finish of the wood is very good, the drawers are good, but the cabinet doors were a problem. The hinges came loose from the wood frame. It turns out, Defined Details used screws that were too short. They came to our home to replace the screws with the longer ones that the hinges required. As I was watching them do the work, however, I noticed that the screws were for metal and not for wood (screws for metal have different threading than those for wood). When I called this to their attention, Nicholas asked me if I wanted them to use wood screws. A surprising question. Yes, of course, to mount something into wood, one should use wood screws. So they sent one of their workers to get the proper screws, while I was left wondering why I needed to insist on something so obvious. Since then, most of the cabinet doors are working okay, other than one that came off again. I suspect that this is due to the hole for the screw having been used, now, a couple times, is not holding the screws in place. To my disappointment, however, Defined Details has not responded to two emails asking them to come out and fix this problem. They simply are not willing to stand by their product.Another point of annoyance, Nicholas did not ensure that cabinet edges were square (picture attached). Instead orthogonal panels of wood are not flush at corners, as they should be. I have never seen this before, and when I asked Nicholas about it, he insisted that it was intentional, part of his design. Yet this is not consistently done at all edges. Some fit together as they should, others do not. If you decide to employ Defined Details for cabinets, you might ask about this and make sure that pieces of wood are fitted flush at the corners, as I think they should be.We also had Defined Details make and install two doors, one in back and one in front. The back door is fine, but the front door was not properly measured. Nicholas came out twice to measure the frame and the existing door. He even used the existing door as a sort-of template. But the new door had a gap with the frame of 1/2 inch. Yes, thats right, 1/2 inch. After seeing the problem, Nicholas decided that he needed to rush away to another job. Honestly, they are such nice people, I tried to look beyond this, but when I took a closer look I realized that a 1/2 inch gap is quite a problem. Sunlight was actually shining through the gap. I asked Defined Details to come out and fix this problem, and I showed them a picture of the problem (gap with ruler showing its size, attached). I suggested that they could, for example, build out the frame. No word, they have never responded. I have since built the frame out to solve this problem, but, really, I shouldnt have had to do this. Proper measurement would have avoided this problem. If you decide to employ Defined Details for a door, you might specify the size of the gap that can be tolerated (1/8 inch is probably reasonable).Anyway, we will not be using Defined Details again. We are disappointed in the quality of their work and their lack of responsiveness to getting their own work fixed.Jeffrey J. LoveIn the response below, you will see that they dont actually address the issues raised in our review. The entry lockset is not the issue (though the contract called for the doors to be made to fit working with re-use of existing lock sets). The issues are the front door that wasnt properly fitted to the frame (as shown in the picture) and cabinet doors that come off due to improper mounting of hinges. Defined Details never responded to requests to come back and fix these. I have, myself, built out the frame to address the front door problem, one that Defined Details should have fixed themselves. If and when they do fix the cabinets, I will be happy to update this review.

Not sure the photos do this project justice. Nicholas and Julie are a pleasure to work with and the bookcases/drawers/cabinets turned out beautiful. The quarter sawn oak cabinet tops are a perfect match to our double secretary desk. What a great room now. There is likely not a square corner in this house but everything fit perfectly. Communication is fantastic. They are extremely neat and clean. I highly recommend this small family owned company and look forward to doing some more projects with them.

Julie and Nicholas juggled multiple large wood and metalwork projects at our new build restaurant with professionalism and utmost craftsmanship. Their work is affordable, incredibly beautiful, and truly built to last. They communicated well, coordinated super effectively with other subs on site, and customized the work to our exact standards. We will definitely work with them again!

My entryway cabinets built by Defined Details are exactly what I wanted. Nicholas and Julie made the perfect husband and wife team to bring a beautiful piece of work into my home. After calling them with my idea to redesign my entryway they came to my house right away to look at the space and offer design ideas.They constructed and installed my cabinets while I was out of town for a few weeks. They contacted my contractor so I didn’t have to worry about anything. They emailed me with questions about details and were quick to respond to any of my questions or concerns. I came home to a beautiful, high quality, functional space. Thank you!

With all of the big box stores, its hard to find a true artisan these days. Nicholas first did an entry/mudroom cabinet for us. We were so happy with it that we had him build the cabinets for our complete kitchen remodel. We were able to make changes and adjustments at every step of the way and ensure that the kitchen was EXACTLY as I wanted it to be. I cannot recommend him and his company highly enough. You will not be disappointed!

Defined Details did an outstanding job designing, crafting and installing a custom sideboard in my dining room. It has completely transformed my space. They brought my initial vision to life in a far superior way. Their attention to design, quality, materials, and details (well named company!) is unparalleled. I could not be more pleased and highly recommend them!

Nicholas and Julie designed and installed a white oak mantle and trim over the existing dry wall fireplace area. They also built and installed a new entertainment stand cabinet inside our television niche. The fireplace/entertainment wall looks a million times better and we are so happy with the result. They were great to work with: they listened to what we wanted, created a design to meet our needs and then built and installed it with care. I would definitely work with them again on another home improvement project.

Nicholas and Julie did a great job for us. The floating shelves they made were perfectly sized, beautifully finished and expertly installed. When Julie came to measure, she also gave me some design advise. After installing the shelves and threshold we had requested, Nicholas also offered to fit and attach the baseboards that were still missing. In addition to Nicholas being an excellent woodworker and craftsman, they are honest, attentive and fun! I will use them again if the opportunity arises.Tania E

A true wood professional, Nick has the tools and skills to produce results way beyond what back of their truck contractors can do. Weve used Nick and Julie for three jobs over the past decade. They converted a set of dated carpet stairs with cheap metal railings to beautiful hardwood treads and railings several years ago. We also used them to re-seal those treads recently and to install some hardwood flooring. It is always a pleasure to work with Nick and Julie. Im looking forward to using Defined Details again on future projects.

Nicholas and Julie did a great job on our kitchen in Breck. The level of craftsmanship and attention to detail was much better than any cabinet makers I have worked with in the past. We have been getting tons of compliments on our new cabinets!
