The employees were ready to help when I entered the store, but they were also ready to sell me the wrong inner tube for my bike.I trusted the staff to help me purchase the correct inner tube, providing pictures of my existing tire with all of the necessary numbers, and a staff member quickly fetched me one.However, Ive come home to find that the inner tube I purchased is far too big for my bike. Im not concerned about the price, but I took an hour out of my day to make it to Papa Wheelies and back to support a local business rather than order online, and Im disappointed that I was so decisively recommended the incorrect inner tube.

The folks over at Papa Wheelies are simply the best! Ive stopped by a handful of times now for repairs or new parts and they have always been well equipped to properly service my bike. All the sales and service members that Ive interacted with have been welcoming and kind. Their turn around time for service is super quick! Ive received my bike back the same day for each visit.

Im sorry but I simply did not have great experiences at this shop. They seemed to forgot my bike existed when I called to check up on it, and after it was serviced, I had to get it reserviced for it to function minimally. The service itself was mediocre (and imo overpriced) and when I came in the staff were dismissive and unhelpful in helping me choose accessories.

My bike is back! Thanks to the terrific techs at Papa Wheelies, my beloved olde bike has been brought back to full health. I appreciate the fast, friendly and thorough service.

Hands down one of the best bike shops in Boston I called 7 other places around the nothshore area and papa wheelies were the only ones who were kind! I got the front and back wheels replaced on my 2 Gotrax electric scooters even though they don’t typically fix scooters they said they would try and that’s all I could ask for considering others were so rude, and they did a great job! Super friendly and accommodating 10/10 for those guys!

I had a fantastic experience purchasing a Giant bike from this shop (aka Back Bay Bicycles). Craig was extremely knowledgeable, courteous and helpful throughout the process. The shop also features a great selection of accessories from fenders to bike tools. Overall a wonderful local shop that adds a lot to the community.

Great shop, terrific team. Back Bay Bicycles has been my go to for 8+ years. Recently, I had an issue with my Di2 derailleur. I stopped by another bike shop closer to my home (after moving out of the city), but their Di2 certified tech couldnt resolve the issue and recommended replacing the unit. After checking with Zach at Back Bay Bicycles, he ran a software fix and the issue was resolved. Zach is the man, and always super helpful. I couldnt speak more highly about the team!

First off, I came about a year ago and again last week to get my bike serviced. I found both experiences to be great. No stress. Didn’t realize how cool the store is. More restrictions last year and couldn’t go in. Every one in there is also super nice, especially the guy who checked me out, wish I got his name, super friendly! This place is great! They are super helpful and straight forward. I really appreciated that they took the time to answer my questions and clearly explained what was wrong with my bike so that I could make an informed decision about what to fix and when. They were really great about communicating when parts were in, etc and they gave me a really accurate quote. As a young woman, I often go into bike shops and feel like the guys there are trying to show off how much they know and tell me what to do, so I really appreciated that the laid back and friendly atmosphere here.

I had an accident on my brand new bicycle and brought it in to Papa Wheelies Back Bay- Boston. They have a good system with bicycle repairs do to Covid-19. My bike was repaired and I had it back in under a week and that was because I lost the removable front tire and needed to order and have shipped in. Papa Wheelies staff are experts in their craft, knowledgeable and friendly staff. I highly recommend Papa Wheelies and was very impressed overall. Customers, please call ahead before you come by and save time and stress with any bicycle needs.

Fantastic bike shop. Shopped around a few bike stores in the area when buying a bike a last year, and they were by far the most helpful and friendly. They were focused on getting me what I needed and didnt try to upsell me, felt very honest. Disappointed I didnt know about this shop previously, and I live right down the street! They have a courteous, knowledgeable staff who never talks down to the customer, which Ive found is a key frustration of mine at bike shops, despite having been an avid cyclist my entire life. This place is the real deal! Great selection of bikes, but the customer service is really what sets them apart from other bike shops in the area. Both Nicks who work on repairs are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My road bike is 20 years old and they knew how to service the tires, shifter, cables, and suspension all for a more than reasonable price! They can break down the issue and relay the mechanics to you no matter how limited your bike knowledge may be. Your bike is in great hands at this Back Bay bike shop. Brought my bike in to be fixed as my rear derailleur was broken. They were immediately able to diagnose and even called their supplier on the spot to see the earliest they could get my part in. They promised a week and actually got it done a day early. Pickup process was also very easy, especially considering the challenges caused by COVID. Very very satisfied.

I am incredibly impressed by this small business. I had brought my Specialized Diverged in for a new crankset. Was promised that it would be done by Wednesday of the following week. Over that weekend the store was looted. They called me up Monday to say it would take a few days to have the shop fixed. They had it done by that Friday which is incredible for all the damages they incurred. Please support this small business.

Quick and great quality!!!! Asked to fix a flat wheel and adjust the front brake but they did both front and back and riding now compared to before its not only solid brakes but for some reason the bike felt so much smoother! Thank you guys!!!

A shop I probably won’t go again.Funny story:I received my bike with an incorrectly positioned/ adjusted front derailleur which was rubbing the chain pretty hard. Brought it back for tuneup but still rubbing the chain. they did it very fast, which I appreciate.But eventually I had to adjust it myself watching youtube videos. And I fixed it in 20mins. lolI am sure they know how to get it done correctly. Just wondering if they can give a little bit more attention and care to customers who is only buying a $1.3k bike.

Though it appears that the issue was caused when the bike stand was installed, no answer (voice mail full), at the Natick location, the Backbay location was very helpful. This is where I well get future work done.This location is also fanatical about Covid-19 protocols (not a complaint, a compliment). The service manager Richard has the right attitude. I will return here.

The crank of my bike was annoyingly loud recently and was looking for a place that could repair it soon. After trying a couple of places closer to home finally I went to this shop. They ahave a system to avoid crowding duentl covid but they approached me promptly and kindly. Rick is the main mechanic I take and hes very knowledgeable and friendly. It took a while to repair (I even went to have a coffee) for an issue that was originated during assembly. I was very lucky they had the piece to replace it, and his team really pulled it out and now Im riding smoothly my bike back again. And overall I dont think it was that expensive either. Thank you guys.

The professional service you get from these guys is UNBEATABLE... so helpful, so down to earth, and so reasonably priced. This has been my bike shop for the last 3 years now, but I recently ordered a tandem bike for my mother (she never learned how to ride a bike before, but she loves the idea of biking around the city, so I am taking her) and she was so impressed by the service, support + advice she got from the team, I realized its not just me: this people are awesome! The location is hard to find because is embedded in this brownstone classic New England type of building (uncommon for a bike shop) but once you find it, you know you and your bike are in great hands.

Excellent service! Im a casual rider and my bike recently started acting up, so I had a walk in today and they were able to quickly figure out the issue. They were very helpful and they walked me through the fixes they were doing to my bike. Within an hour I walked out with a new chain and a fixed bike at a very reasonable price!

I had an issue with my car’s battery, a couple of blocks away, called the store to know if they sold a cable to give my car a jump, the owner Richard came himself to help me out, friendly and helpful!! I have no words to thank him enough, such gestures are pretty rare nowadays , great person!!

Theses guys are great! They do great work, they’re very knowledgeable, and they have a great no bull attitude. I took a (very) broken bike in, and I left with a fixed bike same day. That’s review enough as is. Their stock of accessories and bikes is solid, and pricing is reasonable. And they’re good conversation to boot. I will continue using this shop as my go to bike shop.

Helpful mechanics that do more than expected, quality work, good prices for labor and parts.I came in there when my bike broke on my commute. They were very helpful in helping me find a part that fit and making it work. They were also very helpful in getting it done quickly that day.The new parts were put on and adjusted perfectly and they did extra stuff like adjust the brakes. They did not charge me much for labor either.Would def come again.

I needed the front tire replaced on my xiaomi M365 electric scooter, and spent hours trying to get it done myself last night before giving up (look it up online to see how much of a pain it is). I called and asked if theyd try it here and they said sure so I brought it in. Everyone there was perfectly friendly and even though it took almost half an hour of 2 mechanics time (definitely WAY harder than a normal tire change) they managed to get it and they still insisted I only pay the $20 flat tire rate. I have never been to such an awesome and non-pretentious bike shop in my life!

Great shop. Must support your local bike shop.Ric very capable mechanic. I have my bike serviced yearly. I think it makes a difference. I run tubeless- never a problem - have sealant replaced once a year. Your bike will last a long time if you keep drivetrain claim and lubed, don’t leave it outside in the rain, have it serviced once a year. Give your local bike shop some business and they will be around a long time. Sure, get a bargain on-line for something’s but give the bike shop some business for other parts and service. If you want to be cheap you end up cheating yourself.

These guys care about their customers and want to help you get out and bike. I highly recommend taking your bike here. Its a friendly atmosphere, and theyll help you out any way they can. I read a couple reviews that said they sell you unnecessary parts and I disagree completely. My experience was that they understand I was on a budget and they helped me get what I could afford to get my bike out so I can ride. Definitely I would recommend going here to a friend.

This place is the best!! Came in with a buddy a few das before the MS Bike Challenge to have his drive train fixed. Back Bay fixed on the spot while all other shops were two weeks out. Very helpful staff and gave me great recommendation on getting new tires for my road bike, which came with weak stock tires that blew out after a couple of days. They put together my bike which came in a box from amazon and I will always take it here for any repair or maintenance needs.

My Giant Seek bike was stolen. I lost about $1400 with all accessories and upgrades. So I visited all the bike shops in the area to purchase a new bike: Giant, Landers, Cambridge, Back Bay. First off, only Back Bay (rep. Mike) said wow, we will help you out, well take care of you - and actually kept to their word. They reduced the prices for me and really helped me get a comparable bike and replace all the parts for a good price. The other companies all pretty much went with wow, that really sucks... now here are all our bikes for the price on the shelf. Secondly, Back Bay was cheaper than any other store. Third, they were very kind and helpful. Fourth they answered multiple phone calls I made with them, to the point I thought they would get annoyed, but they didnt - they just gave me a great bike for a good price. And fifth, they even helped me out with a rental until my bike shipped to Back Bay. Coolest company ever. I will be a repeat customer.

The attitude of the staff was very irritating for me. I went there to get my bike fixed. The person who dealt with me had a contemptuous attitude towards me. First made a remark on not understanding my English. At the checkout he told me the final amount, so I asked how much each item was priced. He slammed his hand on the table as he was fed up then put the price tags of the items in front of me. I looked surprised and said I hope its ok for me to ask. Lastly he asked where I was from, which is obviously not his business. Overall, I couldnt make sense of his humiliating approach, looking down on me because Im a foreigner. I will not go there again.

Great bike shop. Bought a hybrid Specialized here 4 years ago at a great price compared to 4 other shops nearby, and been happy with it since. They give lifetime free tuneups when you buy a bike there, and Ive had them tune mine up twice a year since buying it. Theyve done a fantastic job every time, and theyve never tried to sell me parts or services I dont need. Staff are friendly, knowledge, and courteous!

I was riding along Mass Ave this morning and started having a brake issue with my bike. This fella named Ric appeared like a guardian angel and invited me to ride with him to his bike shop where he was about to open for the day. Thats how I found myself in Back Bay Bicycles. Ric took care of the issue, made sure everything was adjusted to my liking, answered a whole bunch of questions, and was just a generally awesome guy with an awesome dog. Ill be back here for sure

Back Bay is absolutely the best bike shop Ive found in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Newton. The mechanics are extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and do fantastic work for far less than any other shop Ive been to. Ive been a bike commuter for the last 15yrs in 3 different states, and I really love Back Bay the best. I bought my newest road bike from them, and loved it so much I brought my girlfriend in to get a commuter bike for her as well.The long and short: quick, reliable, and inexpensive, with superb staff!

I blew a brake cable today. Walked my bike down the stairs. Saw a local doing a quick fix on his bike. The manager (owner?) was giving him some advice. I told the manager what I needed. He looked at my bike, went back inside and returned with the cable. Then he asked if I needed help installing it. I got a good feeling and could tell this was a place that supported the local biking community. I will check them next time I need an upgrade. Thanks.

Incredibly disappointed to have to leave such a bad review here as I was really hoping to love this bike shop. We just moved in right next door and needed our bikes reassembled after taking them apart to ship in Amtrak boxes. Brought our bikes in for full tune-ups and heres the story:1) The first day I got my bike back I rode it to work. When I stood up about 5min into my ride, the handlebars rotated toward the ground - almost crashed and would have been way worse if Id been commuting on a street instead of a trail which is usually the case. They failed to tighten the screws on one of the most important parts of the bike. I took it back in after tightening them myself to get home, they offered a $20 store credit. I figured theyd give a full refund but didnt wanna fight it as I was hoping to be coming there often.2) I noticed the same day that my wheel was squeaking and chalked it up to the fenders. A couple weeks go by and its still happening - diagnosed that it was the front brake hitting the tire. I brought it in and the front office staff, David, simply took the tire out and put it back in, which fixed it. He then proceeded to tell me that theres no way the bike left the shop in that state. I didnt want to argue and cause a scene right there, but it DEFINITELY left the shop that way and I let him know so (without asking for a credit or refund or anything). He told me that if I didnt take my tire off then someone else did. He then proceeded to say something about being honest with him twice in the minute before I left. Everything short of being outright called a liar.So in summary - they gave a sloppy tune-up that could have cost me (and them) dearly had I crashed due to handlebar failure. In that same tune-up they failed to reinstall my front wheel correctly then accused me of lying when I came back to get it fixed. Bad tune-up, TERRIBLE customer service and attitudes. Even though I live so close that Ive given them their mail a few times after it was delivered to my building, Ill be going to any bike shop in Boston but this one.
