Beyond rude, approaching abusive. Punk know-it-all assistant is vulgar and doesnt even have the customer skills to work at the DMV. Dont tell a customer to go f... themselves, kidI strongly recommend shopping anywhere else if you have questions about anything you are buying. Will never set foot inside again, and vehemently recommend not a single other person does, either.

I try to shop at local owned stores any time I have the choice. But i will never enter this store again the proprietor was Ill tempered, rude, and had a smart attitude. I went well out of my way to spend a 100$ to support a local store and the way he acted I will not recommend even stopping here. I dont mind spending a few dollars more to help a local business but I wouldnt treat a animal like he treats his customers. You have been warned!

I went in for PB Buster and a 1/2inch 19mm deep well socket. The guy who helped me was extremely rude. He handed me the most expensive socket and didnt let me see any other option. He said that was what I asked for and walked away. At the register he was helping a mother and her kids check out and made the comment that her kids where to loud. His co-worker came and cashed me out and was nice. He asked me about my project and I told him that I was taking off my 97 Jeep Wrangler skid plate to fix my transmission. The rude employee looked at me and said that its a garbage car and that I probably dont even know what Im doing. I will never go there again and I will let everyone know to not go there.

Hello I went to this store to get some door nobs. The owner said he did not have time to help me. He walk off I follow him and ask him what did say, he got quiet and went to get the door nobs, his price was double as Home depot or Lowes. I didnt purchase them. Reason !!! He was so rude that I wouldnt recommend anyone to shop in his store. There is no need for a place of business to have such rude owners. Thank for reading.

Anyone who remembers the local hardware store and happens to be one of those people who can get lost walking among the aisles figuring out what to do with all of those cool pieces of hardware will appreciate Five Points Paint & Hardware. If you knew the owner you would know the big box boys will never defeat him. We should all support this guy and his store because they can figure it out for you and they probably have just what you need.

Stay away from Five Points Hardware! I just called to ask if they have an item in stock, and the owner answered the phone. He was very rude and short with me. When I told him that he didnt have to be rude like that to me, he said were very busy right now (as if that is a valid excuse to be rude). Reading some of the reviews on here, I can see that others had a similar experience with this business and with the owner. I guess he is not looking for new business? I would recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Was doing some contracting work at a jobsite across the street and had to buy hardware and tools here multiple times today. Very helpful and knowledgeable guys working here. Gave me the perfect type of wall anchors for the 100lb cabinets I was hanging. The Chinesium hardware that was included with the cabinets was vastly insufficient at holding something like that on a wall. Albeit a little brash, you shouldn’t expect amazing customer service here. Some of the other reviewers need to grow a thicker skin. I’d rather go somewhere where someone knows what they are talking about and get what I need in a few minutes, than have a guy at a big box store tell you “I don’t know.” A little pricy, but saved the timeline for our project and they will be getting my business in the future. Thanks guys.

Would not recommend. You can know exactly what you need and exactly where it is behind the glass and theyll still try to make you feel like an idiot. Is it an automotive tool? Because we dont sell automotive tools No its a screwdriver and its right there just open the display thanks. Everything is a gamble too, some great brands and others that might as well be made out of aluminum. Drive the extra few minutes to Lowes.

While the part was over-priced it was the only place in town that had it.The service was friendly and the owner sought to inform me with a few plumbing tips. Shopping on-line would have taken several attempts to get the right part. The area is not scary as other posters have said. It is on the border of the south-side district that many people go nightly to music and dining.Parking lot in rear of building is spacious.

I felt like I was in hardware heaven from the moment I walked thru the door! The whole staff was friendly and smiling and I felt like I was actually welcome there! Everything was clean and homey and I felt like I could ask the employees anything. I had the pleasure of talking to the owner for about 20 minutes and he is a genuine amazing guy. I love this place and I highly recommend people to shop there! PS: I am not an actual customer and have never even been to this establishment. Review №30

This place actually deserves negative stars. The owner is rude and disrespectful. If you need help finding an item, but you dont know the brand name of the item, you can expect to be told to leave and never come back again. And if you are not leaving fast enough, you can expect his assistance with leaving, by being pushed out of the door. This is how my seventy year old mother was treated at this establishment. She was looking for pellets for mice. He tried to sell her traps, that she did not want. When she tried to explain what she was looking for he told her to leave and that she could never return.

This place fascinates me to no end!I have been here about a dozen times and I have never had a pleasant experience. The owner has this intense Severus Snape vibe as he follows you around the shop while offering assistance that is somehow both entirely unhelpful and sharply condescending. The inventory is stunning, and their location is perfect to sell hardware at the mark up that they do... nonetheless that doesnt mean they want people to buy stuff. On the contrary they hate customers like the plague, and you are made to feel anxious so as to stop you from browsing the aisles. Its truly an experience, so if you need some hardware and you are okay with overpaying a bit you should go see for yourself.

Yea they will probably have what you need. Or at least a 10 year old version of it. And they will charge double while acting like complete a$$ holes to you while they do it. The old guy behind the counter is not a pleasant man to be around. And this is over years of occasional visits, not just one time. I love supporting a local hardware store, but this is kind of pathetic.

I AM DONE WITH 5 POINTS HARDWARE! I try to shop local when I can but every time I go to that place it is worse and worse. The guy who owns the place is a bitter, angry old man who makes you feel like an idiot. I asked him if he had any valve stems for a faucet that I needed. I showed him a picture and I knew exactly which one I needed. He said he wouldnt know which one it was unless he had the old one in his hands. I asked him if he could show me where they were (I already looked around but couldnt find them, that place is a mess with junk everywhere) and he told me he was too busy and couldnt waste his time helping me look through them. He wouldnt even show me where they were. Oh and by the way, I was literally the ONLY person there. So from now on its Lowes, Home Depot or online unless anyone knows of a good local hardware store close to me where their customer service is at least a 3/5.I usually dont write reviews like this but I have had it with this place. I dont know how he even stays in business. Theres never anyone there and that property value has to be pretty high.I dont wish bad things on too many people but I wish he would go out of business and have something else move in or someone else buy him out and operate the store. I really like having a hardware store so close to my house but its unfortunate how bad it is because of the owner. I wont be going back. The hours there are ridiculous too. I have to rush home from work to make it before his close time.

After passing three locked doors, with directional signs posted (not very convenient), I entered the rear of the store only to find it somewhat void of sales associates or customers. Finally discovered one customer and one associate. Armed with close up pictures of what I needed (faucet) along with actual faucet hardware, rather than showing an interest in what it was I needed, I was treated like an idiot and then asked what it was I needed. Finally told this associate to forget it and that I was sorry I bothered him and left. Have no idea how they stay in business. Especially from some of the other posts on this site. I managed the customer service function for a national retail chain and website generating over 1 billion in sales/yr. Associates like this would not have made it if they provided a customer experience like this.

Absolutely the most miserable person- has got to be very, very unhappy-obviously-which is a result or shows by how he treats customers-or people in general! If someone enjoys being verbally abused, demeaning, mistreatment-or being disrespected, plain out rude-let alone overpriced-out of date- products- certainly you cannot pass up an opportunity- a person could experience a paradigm shift in perspective-having interaction and encounter with such homosapians! December 2014 Update (been away two years):====================================A true Birmingham icon, this place rocks. Thankfully, nothing has changed: We walked in and spent twenty minutes hunting, yet nobody said BOO, let alone May we help you with something? Geez, I guess all the help were too busy doing something really important to notice the customer; thats OK, the customer knew what he wanted, although he could not find it this day. Doubtless this specialty, hard-to-find item was securely ensconced behind one of many locked glass doors, just WHERE remaining a mystery. Maybe next time. Cheers.=============================================2012:A very thorough, conveniently-located, yet bizarre hardware store: easily a third the displayed inventory value is under glass, lock and key, the result of severe shoplifting + stereotype-driven paranoia. Heavy-duty bars on the windows and doors add to the cheery correctional motif. Im told the owner packs heat under his jacket, just like the friendly folks at the local package store.I recommend browsing with your hands held up over your head. How they keep track of all those keys is a wonder in itself. And it does take some time getting at all that stuff if the place is the least bit busy. It is kind of like buying online, except eventually someone will saunter over to open that glass case for you so you can actually touch the item, heft it, and read the product information printed on the back of the packaging.I understand and agree with ALL the reviewers here, but particularly second the one supporting any local business, as this place is a treasure, however wronged you may have felt (and justifiably so) from unwarranted scrutiny, morgue ambiance, condescension, ad nauseum. Dont go looking for friendly, agreeable service, and you will not be disappointed. They dont sell hardware at the Birmingham Jail!Try finding low-volume, hard-to-find, wierd and legacy items (and knowledge!) at your out-of-stock box store. Spend $5 on gas to save $1 on an item in the burbs. Wait three days for UPS. False economies abound. This guy will only be there for you if you go there and buy something from time to time. And big corporation unaccounted externalities, arrogance, and ethics are pristine by comparison?Have an ounce of compassion for a very knowledgeable business owner who deserves about that much. It is a tough neighborhood (so Im told). The world is not as wed like it, but we do have to have our hardware! See this guy for what he is: a SME on SECURITY!
