Great little shop! Ive gone in twice to get a new hole punched into my leather belt - they did it (no charge!) and I also got my Redwing Iron Ranger boots resoled here. Would definitely come back!

When I shipped over my boots to model shoes I wasn’t expecting my boots to saved. I wish I had a picture to show ,but let me tell you about the results…..They look great! Im really happy with my new boots. I will definitely recommend you coming here for all your shoe and leather needs.

I came into the shop with a pair of Clark’s leather boots that I had damaged. Peter took a look at it and without even charging me fixed up the leather to be good as new. I bought the leather lotion and shoe cream he recommended and the job was done quick. Peter found out I lived in the neighborhood and offered his phone number or FaceTime if I ever have any other issues. I bought shoe trees the next week which were a little pricey but worth it for the quality work and superb customer service!

I took one of my boots into their shop because of a broken zipper, and they had it fixed and as good new in no time at all and at a decent price as well. definitely recommend :)

Brilliant with excellent service. I came in years ago with an unusual request — to convert my cleat-style cycling shoes to have durable rubber soles. I wanted to use my nice stiff-soled Sidi shoes with flat pedals, but I wanted a bit of grip on the pedals and the ability to walk around. The challenge is that the stiff soles are slick fiber-reinforced plastic, and the rubber sole needs to be very well attached and tough enough to withstand the rigors of climbing on the bike. Peter took up the challenge that others said couldnt be done. The results are great both on and off the bike, lighter the the previous shoe/pedal combo, and even retain the Italian bikey look. Peter is fun to work with, the service is quick, and its reasonably priced. Finally, the shop has always been very well ventilated and masks are worn.

Brought them my favorite work boots that have already been re-soled once a few years ago. I was worried they would be too far gone, but they said no problem! 3 days later I got my boots back with fresh new soles, cleaned and waxed. Excellent craftspeople here with friendly service. Will definitely be coming back!

Model Shoe Renew resoled a pair of Vivobarefoot Portos and made them even better. The original soles were very stiff, but MSR replaced them with a low profile Vibram sole than allows them to be even more barefoot-feeling than before. The quality of their work is very high and their prices are fair for the effort and care they put into each repair.

I had two pairs of shoes repaired, replacing the Velcro and re-soling the shoes. The shoes came back BETTER than new; the original soles had very little traction, so the new ones are a definite improvement. And both shoes were polished up so well that you would never guess Ive been wearing them for over a year. The shop owners are friendly and very helpful. If you have a favorite pair of shoes that you really want to salvage, this is the place to go.

The staff are super friendly and generous with their time. I came in for a belt repair and was attended to right away. They assessed the belt, said it was an easy fix, and took care of the request immediately. Previously I brought my Birkenstocks here after they were worn out down to the core (the bottom of my heels could basically touch the cement through the gaping hole in the cork) – and they did an amazing job bringing it back to life, putting in a completely new footbed and reconditioning the straps to be like new.Friendly and kind service. Best cobblers in the bay area! I take all my shoes here for new soles. I also damaged the color on a pair of brand new Santonis and somehow they were able to fix it! I wouldnt go anywhere else.

Extremely friendly staff. I had birkenstock’s resoled and not only did they do that well, they also went above and beyond and polished the straps and sealed the cork in the shoe. Would highly recommend going.

I dont live in Berkeley anymore, but I still make the commute back to get my shoes repaired here.

Overpriced, lazy, sloppy shoe resole. Employees are nice, but if you are going to get a full resole on your shoes/boots, I recommend using your shoe brands factory resole service if they have one. I would rather waited a several of months for a resole than get what I received, and it would have been cheaper too. Its fine if you charge a premium price for a resole in Berkeley, but the quality of my resole certainly did not reflect the price I paid. Sure the resole is functional, but its pretty embarrassing visibly. I almost had my Aldens resoled here, thankfully I didnt.Shoe 1 issues:1) I asked for a resole with a Vibram mini-lug and received the regular lug sole. Its not the biggest difference, but isnt what I requested.2) My shoes were also stitched with white thread instead of matching with black thread. The issue here is that the thread and welt were then painted or dyed over with black paint. Very lazy. They also painted the leather upper of my shoe when they were painting over the tread and welt. I will be lucky if this paint can be removed without ruining the leather, if it can be removed at all.3) They didnt remove the original stitching on the welt, and just sewed over the previous stitching. I just checked several other shoes which I got resoled here, and the have done it on them as well. SO LAZY. It does not take that long to take out stitches from the welt. The point of having a goodyearwelt on a shoe is to allow you to have multiple resoles. If you resole here, you will be lucky if your shoe welt will survive till your next resole.4) I would not recommend bringing your goodyearwelted shoes here, unless you want your welt completely destroyed, and want to pay another cobbler to hand stitch another one on for you on your next resole, and at that price I might as well have bought new shoes instead of resoling here. :(Boot 1 issues:1) Cobbler did not remove original stitches, and sewed over original stitches. Not sure why they did this as the original midsole was not replaced. How do I know? The original midsole was white, and it was painted over black.

Best cobbler around!An Arm & Hammer Dehumidifier Bag unfortunately leaked gel all over my expensive No. 6 nubuck clogs and Dieppa Restrepo boots. The Nubuck clogs are a light blush color and had also been super stained before the gel saturated them. I thought they were way beyond repair, but thankfully, Peter got them to look as good as new again! Im very pleased! The boots have a leather sole, and I had Peter replace just the tip of the sole so they would last longer while maintaining the leather for grounding purposes, and the final result is seamless. He is so highly skilled! Ive also had my leather bags and collectible vintage military bags repaired here as well. Judy is always very nice to chat with, and Ive had my more rigid shoes stretched to fit my problematic feet too. I am very grateful for this store!Oh, and they stock the wool Danish elf slippers (called Glerups) that I love, along with many other quality brands such as El Naturalista, Blundstone, and a few different clog brands. I invest a lot of money on high quality shoes, and Ive trusted Model Shoe Renew for the 12 years I have lived in Berkeley and would never consider taking my shoes or bags anywhere else! LOVE LOVE LOVE these people. The owner is the nicest guy ever and they have done literal miracles in repairing my favorite shoes quickly. Once my dog chewed off an entire strap of my Birkenstock’s and they happened to be a color/style they no longer offer. This shop literally hand-made and dyed to match a custom strap and you can not tell they were ever damaged - they look perfect. This week I horribly stained a pair of brand-new nubuck clogs and not only did they somehow get that horrible stain off, they custom stretched them to my feet so that they wouldn’t give me blisters on my big day tomorrow. I don’t know what I would have done without their help.

Every time I come here whether it’s shoe stretching, restitching my moccasins, repairing my old doc marten soles Or a simple quick shoe clean it’s always amazing service. I always te my friends/family to take their shoe problems to model shoe renew. The team is always respectful/clean/wearing masks at all times. So my mother wanted to throw out a vintage Gucci bag gifted to her over thirty years ago by an ex fiancée (scandalous, I know). I found it and told her we should repair it because according to my research it is worth a lot of money, and it had a very minor tear on one of the strap loops. Anyway, I was looking into designer repair shops who wanted hundreds to do this very minor repair. I brought it into this shop as a last effort, and amazingly, they charged me $30 to replace both leather pieces. They did an AMAZING job, and I’m beyond happy with how well they took care of this hidden gem.

I have gone here twice now, once to repair some vintage boots (which came back conditioned, with new heels and soles--gorgeous!) and just now to get some holes put into a belt which they did for free! The people here really know what theyre doing and will work with you so you can achieve what it is youre looking for (those boots really needed some help). The prices are fair and the staff is ready and available to help. Not to mention they give you a stamp card for heel repair, after a certain number theyll repair the next pair for free!

I have had a number of shoes worked on here, with amazing results! I had a pair of very expensive handmade Italian shoes that I never thought could be resuscitated, and they put new soles and cleaned them up so that they look amazing again. I trust them implicitly. I recently had some alterations done to another nice handbag, with great results.

El Naturalista NG96 is the best and most comfortable shoe I have ever worn in my entire life I searched literally all over for these shoes even called a friend in Germany to try to get them and model shoe renew is the only place and I repeat the only place that I can find them they ship them to me and I receive them in two days and I live in Yorktown Virginia

Wonderful pair of shoes I got from here! I needed some classy black shoes to go along with my office attire and they worked just great. The shoes I got were made in Italy and they cost $107. I know they cost more, but they were well-made and will last along time. Plus they look super classy. I highly recommend!

I’ve brought many pairs of shoes here over the past five years to be stretched, re-soled, and restitched. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I prefer to buy quality over quantity and these folks get it. Instead of throwing out good pair of made-to-last because the heels are worn or they need a refresh, bring them here. Think of it as CPR + Emergency Care for your beloved favorite pair.

I needed two holes punched in a leather band. I was not told the price before my item was taken to be punched. Obviously, since you cannot un-punch leather, I was forced to pay $8 for roughly 20 seconds of work. While I should have asked for the price in advance (and with no price list posed), this is a rather unsavory retail technique. I will not be returning to this store and I urge others to take their business elsewhere.

If I could give this place 4.5 stars, I would! Im really really happy with my shoes and I was debating whether to get them fixed but Im glad I did. The heel on one of them lost the sole at the bottom so I had to get both of them fixed, and it came out to $25. Its a little pricey for a college student, but Im glad I did it and I just wont eat out for a while ^.^ If you have a pair of shoes that you really like, invest in them at this store! They will take good care of it for you.

They do absolutely beautiful work here and Ive been a customer for decades. The prices have become prohibitive though. I can get good work done (sole and heel replacement) for about $15 less and with one day turn around in SF rather than waiting a week here. I hate to take my business elsewhere but I think the savings are worth it for most repairs.

Fantastic service and great quality! I had a strap break on my leather backpack, brought it into the store, and had it fixed right then and there in under 10 minutes. She reattached and reinforced the strap for $12, and saved me a trip by repairing it while I waited in the store. Will definitely come back for future repair needs!

I have taken many items here to be repaired--shoes, boots, and bags--and theyve always done a great job at making things look like new again. My sister took in a pair of great cowboy boots that needed a lot of work, which she intended to give to her husband for a birthday surprise, and she said they essentially rebuilt the boots. She was really happy.The only reason Im not giving them a four-star rating is because of a recent experience. I took in several pairs of shoes and boots to be fixed and paid $158 in advance. On my way home I stopped in at a shop and found on sale a pair of boots identical to some Id taken to be repaired, but in a different color. Last pair. A little tight. couldnt remember what size (European) those I already had were, so I called Model Shoe Renew to ask if theyd check for me. The woman who answered the phone--the same one Id just dealt with--sounded exasperated and asked if I couldnt just try on the boots. I said I had, asked if they could stretch boots that were tight. She said they could, but when I asked again if shed check the size, she said testily I have customers! I thought, Jeez, Im a customer too--just paid you quite a lot of money. Maybe she was feeling overwhelmed, but it would have been easy enough to just ask me if I could hold on for a few minutes...

My 25+ year old pumps look like new. Wonderful service. I highly recommend Model Shoe Repair to anyone wanting a first class job.

This is a family owned business and the customer service is EXCELLENT! They have been in business since the 1970s and I could see why they are still strong in their business...excellent quality products. Good friendly staff. And they do a great repair job at a good price!

This shop was beyond affordable, fast and did an amazing job! not to mention, the staff are pleasant and always in a great mood! I have so many pairs that need to be resoled or stretched but havent done so because other shops charged more than I can afford But now i can fix all my favorite shoes!

Wife sent me in with a stain on grey suede boots. Only i have no clue what the stain was or what it would take to remove it. When i handed over the shoe, I was told no promises that the stain would come out. I could tell i was in the right place, when i saw the shoes get hugged and talked too. I showed up days after shoes were ready, and without a receipt. Not a problem we will find them, I helped. CLEAN, CLEAN and CLEANED...stain gone. Top notch service and well priced. Will return with more of wifes shoes im sure.

I have had a couple of things done here - Birkenstock sole replacement and shoe stretching (for mildly too-small shoes). They seem very customer focused and Im a happy customer. Ill be going here for future shoe purchases based on this.

His success has gone to his head. Im a long-time customer. I came in last week, saw that they were busy, and asked when it becomes less busy. An employee at the front counter shouted, Never. I took a place in line. At last, the owner stepped up like a game show host, grandstanding. It could have been a high school reunion. I looked at him with a shrug (silently saying, I dont want to interrupt the party, but can we do business, please?) He snapped, I know! I know! He wrote up the resoling repair order for me with no mention of the price. When I saw it, credit card in hand, I said, No, thanks. Today I bought a new pair of the identical shoes for less than his proposed repair. Moral: hes gracious if hes the life of the party. But without an audience, he gets nasty.

Im the kind of person who spends more for a quality pair of shoes and then wears them for years - thanks to the folks at Model Shoe Renew. I completely trust them to resole, recondition, waterproof, etc. my shoes and have never had anything but excellent results. At the end of a season I take in my shoes and trust them to do whatever needs to be done. They are fast, excellent, and fair, theres a reason theyre always busy - theyre amazing!

This is an excellent store.I stopped by this last Saturday on my way back from Berkeley. I did not know what to expect yet their window display made me want to check it out.As soon as I entered I was greeted and asked if I needed help.I had my favorite pair of Chloe sandals and needed to have soles protectors on them. I did not want to drive back for it though. I am not sure what is the name of the owner who helped me yet he did the soles for me while waiting to save me time. I also bought a great pair of Sanita shoes. This store surprised me by their comfortable shoes selection.I highly recommend to give them a try if you are looking for comfortable shoes.

This is a good place. And Peter is the man to see. Ive cycled through Berkeley cobblers and had mostly bad experiences for a single pair of boots. This was not the case at Model Shoe. Peter rebuilt my boots and took pride in the work. Hard to find a place like this.

Peter came out as scheduled. He repaired and dying my leather Jacket and it looks like new. He is very meticulous and quality oriented. I highly recommend him and his business. He was excellent. and I am sure i will back again to his store to fix my other Leathers and my shoes.

Just bought a pair of dress shoes. I was surprised that their prices actually beat those of a not-to-be-named chain brand, and I got better quality and service, too. Definitely recommend.

Took in a pair of SAS walking shoes, in very bad shape (soles very wron done, badly scuffed). Got back a pair that look brand new. I keep looking at them because I cant believe how nice they look. Prompt service. Reasonable price. Superb results.

Sadly, they ruined a favorite Italian belt with a bad repair, refused to fix it without charging twice the original repair cost--and on top of it, were incredibly rude and insulting. Be warned: they do not stand behind their work. A miserable experience.

I have been coming here for a couple years. I get my shoes shined and taken care of pretty regularly. One of my favorite pairs, though requires a custom color. Sure, its going to cost more than my plain black boots - I get that. What I dont understand is the wide flux in prices every time I bring the same pair of shoes in. Why does it cost more sometimes to mix the color than other times? Peter couldnt answer my question - simply repeatedly telling me that he should show me how to mix my own colors if I dont like his price. Uhhh - thats not what I asked. Prices seem arbitrary and while their work is decent, I dont like feeling like I am being taken advantage of.

I called a couple of shops in the bay area (near home and also near work) to find out what it costs to just have little rubber taps put on the heel of my boots. One shop quoted $18. This shop quoted only $5. Because of their ratings, I decided to try Model Shoe. I dropped, in and had the option to stay while they put the taps on. While there I mentioned that the ball of my feet hurt and voila! the shop lady (sorry I didnt get her name but she is great) brought out these wonderful spongy inserts that many of her customers are raving about. I got to try them and ended up buying 2 pair. Much better now--I can walk without pain. This place is a gem.

I decided on three stars not because the work wasnt excellent, it was. But what got me is that I spent $70 on half soles for two pair of sandals and had asked for heel taps as well. But when I picked them up, no plates. When I asked the owner told me I that there were no instructions for them but could be added. For $12!!!. No thanks. So know before you go know that the work is great but customer service and prices not so great.

Avoid bringing any shoe that you actually care about here. I wanted the company to clean up my corduroy shoes and they recommended their stain guard treatment. After being convinced by the salesman with no warning of the risks and possibilities of what could happen, I picked up my shoes to find that the heel on both shoes has a discoloration line running down it. The nap of the corduroy was extremely stiff if not ruined, and one of the shoes was darker in color than the other. When I questioned them they told me that its natural and there is nothing they could do, except try to rebrush the already destroyed nap. A complete nightmare and a $700 pair of shoes destroyed. Again, AVOID THIS BUSINESD AT ALL COSTS!!!

Its come to my attention that yelp is trying to shake down peter--the owner of model shoe--AGAIN. i was prepared to go to court with him the last time, but yelp smartened up and settled. now yelp is trying again by FILTERING the positive reviews. peter is the last guy to take stuff from yelp, and i as well as most of his customers will go to court with him if necessary. incidentally, i still go model shoes and am still more than happy.heres my previous yelp reviewive been coming to model shoe for over 5 years. my feet are really screwed up, and i have custom boots; moreover, i walk a great deal so heels and soles wear out quickly. having tried every other shoe repair service during my 25+ years in berkeley, i can say that model shoe is the very best...by far. their workmanship is at a very high standard, and they are very accommodating. as for the price, i havent compared it since i wouldnt go anywhere else. the most recent price for heels was $25 which includes the heel card deal (7th heel free). when one of model shoes incompetent competitors screws up my boots, they go back to my boot maker for a $300 relast.i enjoy coming to model shoe since we almost always have a yuk or 2. most of the negative reviews allege rudeness. being the best means that model shoe is very busy. judy--the manager--and peter--the owner--usually dont have time to suffer fools. even so ive never seen either be rude, just blunt.

I forgot to mention that today they repaired the soles + heels + buckle on my expensive leather boots. I love their work !
