They were knowledgeable, super friendly, charged reasonable prices, and we ended up getting our car back, fully repaired, just a few hours after we dropped it off. Auto repair is a necessary business in these new days, which are seeing many long-time local treasured firms dying off for lack of income. It is so important to uphold those still around that provide solid service.In Berkeley, there used to be a tongue-in-cheek slogan: Drive a Volvo or go to jail. Walsh Bros. Volvo (Service) in west Berkeley has dependably serviced these solid cars for decades. Three of mine have been doctored there; I even bought my current drive from them. Theyre around because theyll go that extra, er, mile ..

This place was recommended by AAA, and I can see why. My car came in smoking, smelling of rubber, and making weird noises. Now, it is good as nearly new! Also, to put icing on the cake, they kindly loaned me a car because I had a long commute ahead of me. Great people and great service!

I have to say my experience was very good, I found these guys through the Berkeley parents network where they had very positive reviews.They installed a used engine in my 2006 Volvo XC90 that I provided and my Volvo is running great again. Carlos and his team are real professionals and dont charge crazy prices like the dealerships do !

I’ve tried out a number of shops in the area, If you have a Volvo 240 or any other older Volvo, this is the shop. I’m hesitant to have many shops work on my vintage 244 and it was apparent when talking to these folks that they knew exactly what to do with it. Prices were excellent, work was prompt, employees were very nice. They were not alarmist about small leaks and imperfections; their threshold for what actually needs attention seems pretty spot on. Will be returning to Walsh brothers in the future for any jobs I cannot complete myself at home. recommended to me by other Volvo/Saab mechanics, now I highly recommend them to you.

I have taken both my mothers Volvo XC90 and my Toyota 4Runner to Walsh Brothers, and I cant say enough nice things about Louise, Betsy, and Valerie (and their mechanics, and anyone whose name I missed!). What a thorough, skilled, kind, and -- above all -- highly ethical group of people. I have never had an experience with a mechanic that came even close to the quality of service I have received from Walsh Brothers. John went above and beyond to make me feel taken care of when it was important. And during routine visits, i feel like this place takes the time to educate me and theyre honest about what fixes are necessary, and which ones can be put off for a later date. I wouldnt want to take my Volvo anywhere else!

Complete honesty and transparency, deep technical knowledge, and all at an amazingly low, highly competitive cost.Diogenes, with his lamp in search of an honest man, had it easy. I was in search of an honest man who also knew how to repair and maintain a 1993 Volvo. Thats what I found in the Walsh Brothers. I spent too many years going to Volvo dealers for maintenance and repair. They gradually knew less and less about how to do the work, and some of them cost me several thousand dollars by mis-repairing the car. The Walsh Brothers have unparalleled, deep, and precise knowledge of Volvos (doubtless of other brands as well). And their approach to fixing up this 1993 car which had been neglected and misrepaired was not to throw the book at it, but to identify and lay out a proper order for fixing things--not all at once, but deliberately, starting with the most urgent and moving on to the less urgent, with no exaggeration about the urgency or lack thereof. The result was a car that basically runs like new, so smoothly and efficiently and quietly that I began to enjoy driving it! Such technical competence is hard to find, but to find it matched with honesty and openness was a real surprise. Consider the following estimates for repair: Replace transmission mount parts and labor $153.01. Replace all belts including labor $152.14, and exhaust manifold parts and labor $147.84. That is exactly what they charged when I had those repairs done. Notice the estimates to the right of the decimal point! These are really calculations using years of real data, a far cry from the dealers estimate of $1550 for x y and z. And, to top it off, when there was a small delay in getting my smog apparatus fixed, they went out into their collection of old Volvos and found chrome stripping to replace the missing pieces on my car...completely gratis and without charge, lagniappe. That says something about their attitude toward repair and maintenance, and toward their customers, whom Ive since learned are fiercely loyal. I dont take my car anywhere else. You shouldnt either.

I was a new customer to the Walsh Brothers and sure they were recommended to me by a friend but eod they didnt know me nor I them.... without going into too much of the specifics let me just say that I gave these guys a challenging task, very little warning and of course I was on a shoestring of a budget and not only did they deliver, but they did so while being open honest while being empathetic to my blight.. Walsh saved me money by finding a used interior door panel when the handle on my door broke. Plus, they fixed it in 2 days so I was not without my car very long.

We were on a road trip from LA to Seattle and broke down 45 minutes away from Berkley. The kind folks at Walsh Bros were able to see the car, diagnose a leaking water pump replace it and a new thermostat, in just a couple hours, to get us back on the road. Best of all though, is they were really nice, and showed us exactly what was failing and why, and even swapped out a couple belts without charging for labor. He showed us under the hood, and pointed out a couple things to keep an eye on. Would highly recommend the Walsh Bros and would use them again next time we are in Berkley!
