They deleted my review from them.They will take advantage of the fact that you are not savvy with cars, especially if you are non-male. CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP - do your due diligence. The pricing of this shop was dubious. When i got the invoice, they clearly doctored the labor to make it add up to a round number based on an estimate that seemed way too high. Now i dont trust what they did and am going to another shop to have their work checked. Overall the experience was bottom of the barrel bad (no explanation or clear dialog on what was done or going on with my car and it did feel like the pricing was a scam) and even if they didnt mess anything up, I wont be back.

Dan the old owner left and now this guy Carlos is there. He seems very nice at first but he tried to slip like 10 more repairs than I needed in. I ended up paying him thousands of dollars for a repair that I dont know I needed. Cannot be trusted in an emergency situation.

As far as I can tell this shop is under new management and the service and experience has gone from exceptional to truly awful. I have been coming here for years but I can no longer recommend it.

I have a friend with a VW new beetle, two of them actually, and when she told me shed found this shop she calls family auto I was thrilled. Finally she was getting good advice about this matters right now; this other thing, not quite as high a priority and it has been accurate, solid perspective backed up by good work and realistic, reliable parts choices. Ive been there with my friend and talked to them - these are people who are experienced and like what they are doing, and seem to know how to make a good honest living. My qualifications for my opinions are based on that I was once a wrench, 12 years at the journeyman level, and I would take my car here in a heartbeat if I had one of the kinds they work on and I wasnt able to address something myself for any reason.

Called to see if I could get a quick inspection for a weird noise my car is making. Unfortunately they dont serve Nissans and I didnt know that when I called, regardless, the person on the phone patiently asked me about my car, and provided a quick diagnosis after hearing about the issue. I think I was just pleasantly surprised because they were trying to help KNOWING that I wouldnt bring my car in because its a Nissan. They then recommended Arts, which does serve Nissans, and thats the place I ended up booking an appointment with. Its great to see local businesses looking out for each other, and being so willing to help!

My experience with this shop was excellent. Roger and Dan (brothers) are car guys - they love cars and have spent their lives working on them. Theyre good mechanics and they care about their customers. I picked them from Google reviews and agree with their high rating.I took my Audi to them because I failed my smog test and they called me about 2 hours after I dropped it off to say that theyd found several other issues, which I had them fix - my shocks and the bushings in my front suspension were shot. I was there when they removed the old parts and it was clear that they were shot.The smog failure was more complicated, but they figured it out by applying a smart process of elimination. I grew up working on and racing cars and spent my weekends and summers working in my uncles auto repair shop, so Im a bit of a mechanic myself and these guys are the real deal.Like others, I had to wait a week to get my car in, but once they had it they dived into trouble shooting mode and didnt stop until they had it all figured out. Really good guys. I just moved to the Bay Area and its great to know Ive found my new mechanics.

First time on this auto service, met Carlos by phone great experience, needed a smog check on my R32 since my check engine marked “on”. They just solved the problem very professional, I found the right place after several searches.

Good place to get your v.a.g. vehicle serviced

I was given two free diagnostics and quick-fixes for a crippling problem in which my car was stuck in fourth gear and I had a 150 mile trip home. SUCH COURTEOUS , MODEST and KNOWLEDGEABLE serivce sets a standard. Though the shop had neither the time nor means to go into the problem thoroughly, the mechanic made suggestions which I followed to solve the issue most sensibly and economically.

Ive been bringing my GTI to Dan and Roger for several years, and Ive been getting nothing but dedicated and HONEST service. They dont push their own parts on you, dont charge bogus inspections fees, and dont run up labor time on you like so many other places will. Theyre a pleasure to deal with, and you can see theres good chemistry in the shop. Timing wise - I agree, there have been times when they got swamped and I didnt get my cat back as soon as Id like, but they also have come in and worked on it on weekends on several occasions, which makes up for it, I think.

This place was great,Dan explaned everything in detail basically painted a picture in my head ,they also stuck to their original quote, my audi was done on time and running better than ever! After having anther shop down the road attempt to diagnose the problem, and charging me even after they failed to do the repair correctly, Berkeley auto service made it happen !!!

Dont come here, you take advantage of new customers. My girlfriend came here and they gave her an estimate of 650 for the parts and a hundred more for the shocks. They didnt tell you the total or they gave you a receipt or nothing. They must explain THE TOTAL, with an estimate of work! A professional shop like yours should ensure that customers know EVERYTHING before they do a job.We arrived and they showed us the total. It came out to $ 1,350. Right now, it doesnt make sense to say no, so I pay for it. Also, they charged us $ 90 FOR AN OIL CHANGE. They had the audacity to tell us that they dont do things just to do them, they do customer service.I recommend that you look for other shops, such as Perezs Auto Center in San Jose. Tell them that Eduardo Villa sent them.
