They had my jeep for 4 months, and when I payed for services rendered I drove it around the parking lot and had no breaks! The transmission never got fixed so he refunded me what he charged. The other work was sloppy at best! Hacks!

Has had my truck for 3 weeks to replace the transmission. I was told several times it will be done tomorrow. I told him I need it by this date and was told it will be ready. I called on the day he said it would be done and he again hadnt even started it. I told him we will be there later to pick it up and we will be taking it to someone else. DO NOT use this guy.

Tom is a nice enough guy but I feel completely ripped off. I brought him two new sets of 427 rings and pinions to put in my Jeep. Almost a year and $1400.00 later I finally got my Jeep back. It is obvious the rear axle cover had never been removed. All of the bolts had the original dirt and rust. You can clearly see where someone wrote 427 on the axle cover. (Even though he assured me that he had put the new ring and pinion in and that the reason I couldnt see any marks on the cover bolts was because they paint the cover after they reinstall)He also told me he had bled the brakes and tested them and they were all good. Oh, and there were THREE lug nuts missing from the left rear tire and TWO missing from the right. Those that WERE there were miss matched... My driveway is a long hill and my first test drive, I eased over the hill and started down, tapped the brakes to ease on down, and could not stop AT ALL! Barely felt any drag at all while I was speeding up STANDING IN THE BRAKES!I called him up and all I got was a well I dont know, I put that new ring and pinion in and we bled the brakes and my guy drove it around and it was fine. When I went to pick it up, Tom wasnt there, his guy was, and he told me he DIDNT drive it because he WAS SCARED TO!!! NO JOKE!!!! I thought maybe he was just scared of Jeeps, now Im beginning to wonder. I mentioned that to Tom and he admitted he didnt drive it around the street or anything but he drove it out on the parking lot...I have never left a bad review for anyone, ever, but this is a matter of safety. crosWith I zero control I crossed a road with no ability to stop and out came very close to taking out a neighbors fence.I hate leaving this but again, its a matter of SAFETY!!!

Terrible place to take your rig stay away from the gear works. I Got a transmission rebuild here and after multiple times trying to get a transmission that doesnt leak on my driveway or one that isnt noisy while shifting wierd I finally gave up.I had to take my truck to a reputable shop in bend and pay them to make my truck drive correct again. I do not recommend this business at all.

My wife and I decided to completely rebuild her 98 Jeep Wrangler from the ground up two years ago. While the engine was being rebuilt we decided to call Tom “Gear works” after seeing his add on Craigslist. We thought it would be a good time to freshen up the trans and transfer case while everything was apart. We made a huge mistake. The transmission has whined since day one. It’s like driving in reverse. The output shaft seal on the transfer case has gone through two of Tom’s seals and one that I have purchased and installed. Now the transfer case makes a slapping sound when under a load or acceleration. This is a street princess and might have 3k miles since the rebuild in two years time. All of the miles have been driving to work or taking the dogs to the park. This is just unacceptable and according to the other reviews on here its just the quality of work that this shop is delivering to its customers. Now we have to have this work done all over again at our expense. What if we relied on this vehicle to get us to work or our daughter to her doctors appointments???I suggest everyone that has been burned by this shop contact the BBB, Secretary of State, and also leave a review with your experiences online on forums, google, and Facebook so others aren’t put out their hard earned money.

Took my rig here to get re-geared. Was a bit concerned because of the poor ratings here but evaluated at the shop, found the owner is very experienced and lots of shops use them. After driving the truck, sadly the front diff exploded about two weeks later. Tom had the truck towed back to his shop and not only replaced EVERYTHING at no charge, he purchased insurance policies on the entire system for me. He owned the problem and fixed it. That is honest business and I don’t care about the unfortunate event, when someone owns their mistake and makes it right, that is customer service and good business. So they get my 5 star vote. Thanks for being a stand-up guy Tom!!

Beware: used gears pawned off as new. Terrible turn around for warranty once he has your money. Short story: took him 3 times and 3 months to get it right, and in that time of sitting my transmission valves seized, destroying a new transmission. Read on for the full rant.Bought a rebuilt 9 last summer from Tom. He came up from Bend to Portland and delivered it right to my doorstep within days of ordering it and right on time. I was impressed. This is a service he offers on Craigslist, not something I asked for. I drove the car around my area, never going further than 10 miles for the first couple weeks for test runs. Decided to follow a buddy to my first big car show 50 miles away, only to have a terrible vibration and growling 25 miles in. The housing was hot and the pinion had slop. I had to tuck tail and limp home. Called Tom and told him the situation. I had it out in hours, but it took him weeks to pick it up. Weeks later I get it back and hit the road again. Went to a local show, 10 miles away this time and no vibration...but I did find a big oil spot on my driveway the next morning. The pinion seal was leaking. Upon further examination, the pinion had a little bit of slop...Again. I checked the pinion nut out of curiosity, and it was tight. (he asked me to check the pinion nut after I called him, hoping it would fix his problem).Told him to pick it up (again) and make it right. He picks it up weeks later. More than a month goes by with no word. I called him and he told me he was having trouble finding a USED ring and pinion. Used. His words, not mine. I told him if I wanted a used 3rd member, I wouldve bought 8 used 3rd members for the price I paid for this piece of junk. I wish I had. He bought a new gear set for me, built it and delivered the 3rd member for the 3rd time. Each time he assured me this has never happened, but it still ruined an entire summer of car shows broke down and waiting for my new 3rd member. Finally, last winter I get it back and can drive my car again...only now my transmission will not shift. Valves were stuck from sitting so long my transmission guy (different local Portland guy) just now told me. He had to rebuild a brand new transmission because of Tom taking months to rebuild used gears he pawns off as new. Ive built several cars and trucks without issue over the years, but I do not rebuild gears or transmissions. Im not experienced or set up for it, so I either buy used and take the gamble, or pay somebody to do it. My experience with Tom has motivated me to buy all the necessary tools and learn how to rebuild my own gears to avoid the hassle. Summits prices were comparable, but he beat their delivery time. Wish he hadnt, because I wouldve had a car to cruise the last two summers. Instead, Ive had a car sitting on jack stands for 18 months.

They cheated me did low quality shady work, I had to return my truck over 5 times so theyd fix their aweful work, and after 17k miles, I needed another rebuild on my transmission. They lied about which transmission they put in my vehicle and told me grinding 3rd gear is normal. Lies and deception
