Loved that they had three vegan pastries, including a savory one! They say they have a lot of vegan friendly options for food, and Im sure they do, but as a vegan I get really tired of having to try and tweek the menu or asking for substitutions; it would be nice to have them labeled. Still great service, cute little space, and good pastries.

In our short time as Bellingham residents, Shirlee Bird has become our go-to for second breakfast with their excellent sandwiches and pastries. Service is fast (call to order, and hot pressed sandwiches will be ready in 10 minutes or less) and friendly. Also Im super picky about chai, and although SBs isnt as highly spiced as my favorite Bhakti, its good and Ill be ordering it again. So glad we found Shirlee Bird. (Also FYI the building has public restrooms, on the 3rd floor.) Highly recommended!

I came to get coffee and sandwiches here fairly often for lunch. The staff was mostly friendly, depending on who you got. The owner, Shirley, seemed friendly as well, but it always felt like she was one critique away from yelling at you and kicking you out - witnessed this with several other customer interactions and thought it was very unprofessional and rude.Sure enough, I came in today to order from outside without a mask (indoor is closed due to COVID Im guessing). The girl ordering in front of me had her mask down the entire time, talking to Shirley and drinking coffee, no problem. I come up to order and she tells me she wont serve me without a mask, even through there is no authority anywhere requiring masks outdoors. Why then is there no indoor seating, and all this outdoor set up for? The whole interaction was very rude.The coffee is good, and the food is good. But I will not be coming back because of the attitude - which is ironic because there are signs all over the café eluting to, be kind and no bad moods here. Im not going to give my money to someone who doesnt accommodate or have respect for customers, is a hypocrite, cant think critically, and has anger issues.

Great little place for scratch pastries, coffee, specialty sandwiches, etc. Sweet and savory options + fantastic & fast espresso drinks. I find something different yet equally delicious and exciting every time I visit. Service is fast & efficient too, in case youre short on time and need a quick stop.

I cant pick a favorite pastry....there are so many amazing ones to choos from. For drink I always get drip coffee w cream or an Americano and they are consistent, perfectly brewed and temp it just right. Everyone working there is just plain nice and genuinely friendly. Some seats out front to watch the town wake up make this one of my go to early morning spots.

I work down the street and recently discovered this hidden treasure of a cafe! Every latte I’ve ordered is spot on and delicious. The baristas are very conscientious of my order, which is so important to me because of my food allergies. The house made pastry selection is impressive, and there are multiple gluten and dairy free and vegan options, which are always hard to find. The paninis and soups also look delicious. Awesome service, kind people and great foods and drinks!

The cold brew is the best Ive ever had. It has a subtle lavender flavor and enhances the coffee perfectly. The pastries are absolutely delicious and the croissant breakfast sandwich is so good I could eat it every day. Their coffee and food is consistently delicious every time we go. You know how at some places its good one day but then not so good the next? You wont have that issue at Shirlee Bird. Consistency is so rare and youll get the same high quality every time here. The old smoke shop location is a perfect spot for this Cafe and its setup nicely for the times were living in. You wait outside and order at the door for social distancing safety. The service is top notch as well and quick.

I really cant recommend this place strongly enough. Shirlee is great, amazing baker, super friendly, always remembers her regular customers and what they order. The pastries and coffee are amazing, but dont forget to try things off the hot food menu. This is my favorite cafe in town.

When I walked in I was immediately greeted. The barista worked on a giant americano for me and simultaneously helped me pick the best breakfast. I got the breakfast burrito pictured below (the picture only shows half of it as I promptly ate the first half). It was hot, flavorful and the perfect size. It was quiet on Saturday morning and I stayed in the small cafe and worked. It was toasty and warm and comfortable. I could see the comfortabiity factor being more of a challenge on busy days because the cafe is small. I will be back! The pastries look to die for and I might even have to get one of those too...

I absolutely love a place where you can feel that they love what they do and are excited about their food! Its so quaint inside and the owner was enthusiastic and super sweet. We had seriously delicious cold brew with lavender essence (WHOA) and a gluten-free coconut mango muffin that was really tasty. Would def return!

Located in one of the oldest buildings in Fairhaven, I love how charming this sweet little hole-in-the-wall is. It is a perfect spot to people watch at the outside tables, or shoot the breeze inside with fellow patrons and the ever-lovely owner Shirley. This little gem of a cafe features lavender infused cold brew coffee, delicious paninis, and the incredible baked goods that Shirlees is famous for.

So glad to see that Shirlee Bird is still going strong. We love this place and were sad that we couldnt get to Bellingham from Idaho this summer for our month of hiking and stopping at Shirlee Bird for an after hike pastry. Everything weve had there has been delicious and talking with Shirlee and staff is always fun.

My girlfriend and I spent a wonderful morning in here while passing through the town on our west coast bicycle ride. The rain was intense and we decided to grab a coffee to wait it out. The rain didnt stop and neither did the coffee! We ended up drinking about 6 + we ate an amazing breakfast. The girl behind the counter (whose name escapes me) was super friendly and welcoming on that gross morning! It seemed over the course of the morning the whole town passed through here and I can see why! Highly Recommend!

This is truly one of the best coffee shops in town, and my favorite place to get a sandwich too! The Bird is the best sandwich in town, the house drip is fantastic, and the owner is an amazing Baker whos pastries never disappoint. The shop is tiny and cozy, but theres usually seating available and it was the best place to study while I was in school!

We stopped here for coffee on route to the morning train. Not only were our soy lattes most excellent, we were delighted to find not just one, but two varieties of homemade, vegan pastry options! For such a cozy little space, we were really impressed that they carry more vegan choices than major espresso chains. We bought them for the train and had a lovely breakfast. Both were extremely tasty. Really impressed with the quality of Shirley Bird and look forward to a return visit.

This place is a gem, you may not see it from the outside as its tucked away in the courtyard area but when you enter let the pastries fill your olfactory glands with Pavlov-like yearning to eat everything there. Lemon raspberry pinwheels are the bomb. You can really tell that the owner puts her heart and soul into making your experience something special. If I could give 6 stars, I would.

The food was great, but the mocha and spiced cider were disappointing.

Nah fam this ain’t it went with 5 people and service was super slow, took 1hour for everyone to get their food at different times. Food was alright, I will say I got a really good mocha, overpriced though. I love the little plates and what not though and it’s dining area is really cool.

Not only was the service amazing and welcoming the food is equally as tasty. I got the Croissant sandwich (which was one of the best croissant breakfast sandwiches Ive ever tasted) and a bluebarry-almond pastry and my partner got the breakfast burrito and an apple turnover which he said were both really good too. We couldnt resist the treats! Would definitely recommend and go back again!!

We have officially triple tried this place and each time has been a great experience. The food is fantastic, shirlee (owner/operator) makes all of the coffee / sandwiches right at the counter. Makes you feel like someone who actually cares about quality of product and service owns this Cafe, and surprise, she does. Also the building is fun to walk around in, swing by and youll see what I mean.

Stopped by with my family after a day of driving Chuckanut and hiking the north side of the mountain, and this teeny cafe was perfect. The coffee was super, and my husband and I each got a lemon cardamom bear claw. Exactly as delicious as it sounds, unless you hate lemon. Loved it

I used to work in Fairhaven and systematically tried every coffee shop there for who had the best vanilla latte. It was Shirlee Bird! I will say they take a little longer, but if you can afford the wait its worth it.

My sister and I went to the Shirlee Bird for a weekday brunch and everything was delicious! The owners enthusiasm and recommendations truly made our mornings. I got a Waffle Monte Cristo and a glass of kombucha and my sister got the Croissant sandwich and a latte. The homemade pastries are delicious!

This is an awesome coffee shop and the food is great. Shirlee is super outgoing and friendly. We had a bagel, cinammon roll, chicken curry panini, and marionberry turnover. All were fantastic. The building that this small shop is in is also really cool with some interesting history behind it. Mark Twain and William Taft visited this building for drinks at one point.

Tried olive tapenade croissant. It was very good, but I was not happy about the hygiene in that place. She handled food with bare hands instead of picking up pastries with a tong while she is handling payments. And cutting and setting up food should be done with wearing a clean gloves.
