We visited the Military Base on Saturday and found Marine troops performing company drills. Additionally while at the Marine museum one of the training companys drill instructor brought a platoon of troops to the museum. It appeared that the purpose of that visit was to teach the troop some history about the development of the Marine corps. I was truly impressed. I served in the Army during the Vietnam war. I think that having the museum there on base and teaching the history of the marines in the US is significant. Hats off to the Corp

In January 2008 my Daughter graduated from basic training in the United States Marine Corps. We met her on family day, the day before graduation. We had not seen her since she joined the Marine Corps. What a joyful reunion. She said she never realized how great it felt to complete something! She then took us to this museum. The museum displayed the history and traditions of the United States Marine Corps. It is well worth the time it took to visit it!

I graduated from PI in September 1975. Finally made it back there in 2010. My barracks were still there. No way the Corps is going to tear down a brick building. I was in from 1975-1984. Wish I could have stayed in and retired. My wife was with me on my 2010 visit. I guess you really can not appreciate it unless you lived through boot camp. I loved it. If you graduated and have not been back, try to make the trip. Memories are great. Semper fi.

I came through Parris Island and stood on the yellow footprints nearly 30 years ago and got to bring my 15 year old son through today. It was a prideful moment for me to watch the amount of attention he paid to a museum. There is a lot of history displayed within the walls here and it is clear theyve taken the time to display it with honor.

I passed through Parris Island from July to October of 1995. 1st Battalion, Delta Co., Platoon 1020. My father trained here too, back in Dec 1967 to March of 1968. He was 3rd Battalion. I wanted to come here and show my daughter the Island. I wanted to see the base museum for the first time. Cool thing was, we shared the museum with recruits turning Marine, as they had a day to see the Marine history on the Island. We had both men and women from 1st and 4th Battalion in there, DIs and all. My daughter thought that was pretty cool. DIs, up close and personal. The museum is great and worth the visit. We spent about 2 hours there. Getting on base was easy. They just ran my state ID. I didnt have a VA ID card, which would have made the process quicker to get on. Overall, the day trip, up from Jacksonville, FL, was worth it. Semper Fi.
