I cant give higher praise to River Bay and its proprietor, Paul. After 75 years of fishing I was intreaged with fly fishing so I made a visit to their store in Baldwin. I had a great friendly chat with Paul who, notwithstanding my total lack of experience with fly fishing, invited me to join him and a few regulars at a local fishing venue that night. Arriving at the spot, Paul invited me to stand by his side and gave me the why and how of what he was doing. He even turned over his outfit to me for a mini lesson. Unfortunately, I determined that my age and disabilities evoked too much pain for the physical activity involved in fly fishing while standing.Thanks for your generous offer and help Paul. I really appreciated it. If you are thinking about beginning fly fishing, a visit to River Bay is a must.

I recently retired and began my lifelong dream to fly fish. Paul is a wealth of information. He freely shares his experience and knowledge of fly fishing with his customers. He is extremely helpful and honest when it comes to opinions about your personal needs. Paul has outfitted me with quality equipment from head to toe and I have been well prepared for hitting the rivers and streams. He has guest instructors to introduce fly fishing to the novice, and casting classes for those who wish to improve their skills. Take one of his orientation trips to explore the Croton System or Housatonic and it will be the best couple of bucks you have ever spent. Access points, level of difficulty and even the best times to fish are discussed. This trip as well as all of the shop trips to Long Island, Connecticut and Upstate New York are topped off with his excellent BBQ skills and great discussion about the successes of the day follow. He even has a Shop trip to Missoula, Montana this July.Pauls help and concern will provide you with an opportunity to be successful at fly fishing without the angst that might dissuade you from continuing.

RiverBay is a wonderful fly fishing store where you can get very knowledgeable guidance on all kinds of gear and clothing. RiverBay is a fabulous place to get properly fitted for waders and to demo rods and reels. RiverBay also offers fly fishing trips and fly tying classes where you can meet other fly fishing minded people. This is a great place from the beginner looking to learn from very informed folks or the savy Fly fisherman . These guys have all you will need to make your next fishing experience better . You don’t need to send away to those big box stores for a catalog , Here you can go feel the product before you make your decision on what you want or need ! Very helpful people and I would recommend to anyone looking for a local fly fishing shop where you are treated well from the first hello . Small, intimate shop tucked away on a side street. The owner Paul is a legitimate fisherman who knows about the various fisheries and what gear to use. This, I think, is what separates this store from big-box chain stores where the person manning the fly-drawers doesnt really fish and cannot make suggestions as to what fly to use on what body of water. On the day I visited, there were 4 gentlemen seated around a table tying flies and trading tales; as such, there is evidence of a community here. Lots of accessories and fly-tying materials though I didnt see many rods on display (maybe I missed them). Warm, welcoming environment. Definitely worth a visit.
