Im a long time customer. I cant count how many shoes they have resurrected by repairing the heels or resoling the shoes. Theyve fixed sandals, high heels, and even thigh high boots. If you have shoes that you feel you need to toss because of some problems, but you love them, spent too much money on them, this is where to bring them. You won’t be disappointed. You will gain new life in your shoes.

No warranty on shoe repairsI had a pair of Kenneth Cole dress shoes “repaired” by the shoe hospital for $43. The shoes weren’t fixed in the estimated 2 weeks time. The shoes had solid rubber soles and leather uppers that were glued to the soles. The glue failed within 30 days after pickup. I went to the “hospital” and discovered there is no warranty on repair work. Agent stated that the soles and uppers where solid material and needed to be stitched with new soles and heels - $100.My problem is this should have been stated when I first had them repaired. This fact would be known by an experienced shoesmith.

Do these look clean to you? Because they are still covered in dirt and mud. I stepped in mud and turned them over to Austin Shoe Hospital like I’ve done in the past with boots. They can clean boots, but apparently not sneakers. $43 for a half-*** cleaning. Super disappointed. These are even after I pointed out how dirty they were and they cleaned the inside lip.

Austin Shoe Hospital did a great job replacing the heel taps and dance suede on my fav ballroom shoes. The new suede soles match the original sole outline perfectly and there is no sign of excess glue at any point. The shoes are just like new again.I also use Austin Shoe Hospital for my cowboy boot heel replacements/conditioning. Theyve worked magic on some boots I thought I had ruined. It is more economically and environmentally responsible to repair good shoes instead of buying replacements. I will definitely keep using their services.

I took a pair of old beat up lizard skin boots to Austin Show Hospital. Trust me when I say that they were dead on arrival. When I first bought them, they were my favorite boots and I wore them for dressing up. Over the years, I did not take care of them but continued to wear them all the time. The heels were gone, the sole was blown out and they just looked like a pair of old work boots. Im moving out of state so I took them to be resoled and reheeled so that I could continue to wear them as work boots. When I got them back I said Holy cow, these boots look new. Then I realized, they didnt look this good when they were new. The work done on my boots was AMAZING and I highly recommend the Austin Shoe Hospital to anyone that needs work done!

I have used them for a couple of zipper projects, and I find them to be warm, honest, fair, and their work is fantastic. I am very pleased with what they have done for me. I also have had honest quotes regarding what should be done, and if they thought it might be better to not have them do the work. Love honesty. Will always use them as long as I am living in Austin, which I hope will be for a long time. One of the many businesses in Austin I like and trust.

I took a pair of my son’s dress shoes to the Austin Shoe Hospital for repairs. The right shoe was damaged and badly gouged after he tripped while wearing them. Joe worked his magic on that shoe! I went back after a few days to pick them up and I honestly couldn’t see any evidence of the damage. It took me several seconds to locate where repairs were made and if you weren’t aware of previous damage, it would be unnoticeable. Joe did a fantastic job making a favorite pair of dress shoes look whole again and is a very talented craftsman. My son was thrilled that his shoes were handsome and wearable again! I was very impressed with the job and the repairs were reasonably priced. Thank you, Joe and Austin Shoe Hospital!Shak

I should have asked more questions in having my boots ‘cleaned’. I was not told stains or marks on my boots could not be removed. Instead, I got my boots back darker than they were when I dropped them off. The boots were darkened to mask the stain/marks on them. I would have preferred to keep the original color with the minor marks on them. Also, I was informed they would NOT have a gloss applied since they currently didn’t have. I should have gotten that in writing or made sure they stated that on repair ticket because they glossed them anyway.I spent over an hour removing as much gloss and stain and I could when I got home with the leather cleaners I had at home. Disappointed, to say the least.

Overall, they’re more for polishing and possibly conditioning than they are for shoe repair. When I went in I brought in a pair of Timbs with a scuff on the front. I asked if this could be repaired such that it would look like its partner shoe. Was promised such and paid around $22. When I went to pick up the shoes the scuff looked as though someone painted over it in a shoddy manner. It looks raised and reminds me of someone placing paste or a piece of gum with how the raised edges look.I came out of my car and went in, with the benefit of the doubt, in hopes that they could advise me on how to either:a) take care of the problem myselforb) how to smoothen the surface and if they could do soWhen I met in I was met with a lot of friction over it and was told that because the leather was scuffed, that they can’t fix what they did to repair it….?My main issue is the surface isn’t smooth, not so much with the coloration. I was told to put lacquer on it but, with a tilt of the head and somewhat of a rude tone, that it will still look like that.Outside of the issue above, the polishing looks terrific.Overall I paid around $48 for two shoes to be shined and for a shoddy repair of a scuffing. I wish I had done more research and didn’t trust them when they said they could fix it. Because what I am attaching does not look fixed to me 🤷🏻‍♀️In summary: Do NOT come in for shoe repair—they’ll make it worse and their customer service is poor. Do come in for shoe shining and conditioning.Edited review regarding response from owner:It’s one thing if I am told up front that it can’t be done, but I came in and asked if this can be fixed or not. I’m frustrated because it looks worse after bringing it in. I even watched multiple tutorials after the fact that it could be fixed. Wished I had just done that before coming in and paying for a mistake I have to reverse.

UPDATES at the end (bad news)! Poor quality work over multiple attempts, and guarantee limited. I brought a pair of shoes to be reglued where the external sole was separating from the bottom of the shoe. The work was guaranteed. This botched repair process and customer service interaction has involved both the Burnet and the Ben White location. Semi-destroyed shoes over multiple attempts, refused to refund, mostly fixed eventually.Attempt #1: At the Ben White location, I paid for the shoes, then saw major problems. Glue spread onto the leather, sections not glued down. Staff said I should go home and call a few days later to talk to someone else. After I left, another customer in the parking lot asked me if he had been as rude to me as he had been to her. I declined to answer. When I called back a few days later, they offered to reglue. I returned to pick up the shoes.Attempt #2: They were reglued and the excess glue was cleaned off. K offered to McKay stitch the soles by carving a groove and then stitching them. I didnt have time to leave the shoes for another week, so I declined but they said the offer stood for 30 days. But the shoes unglued again the first time they were worn. Returned, asked for a reglue and accepted the offer of the McKay stitching.Attempt #3: Groove that was cut was very uneven. Shreds of the soles were hanging from the shoes. The stitches were sticking out, and the threads and some of their knots were raised above the surface so that the thread would touch the ground before the sole. Some of the threads were already frayed. The grooves were so uneven and wide that in some places one could see where the holes had been redrilled. The manager tried to tell me that none of these were problems. Eventually he said that he could have them restitch the shoes and put a thin sole over the stitches. But that is the last thing I can do for you for free. Reminded him that he was not doing these services as a favor, but rather that after nearly a month I was still waiting for them to provide the service for which I had paid--soles that were attached to the shoes. He agreed to restitch & to add a thin sole over the stitches. It was accept or throw away the shoes and forfeit the money Id already paid the Austin Shoe Hospital.Attempt #4: Returned and picked up the shoes. First time they were worn, however, a whole section of one of the shoes sole separated.UPDATE: 10/25. Per the request of the rep who asked me to email, I did. They responded to my email and asked me to come to their main store on Burnet and Steck. I called on a Saturday morning to explain that Id been asked to go to that location, and I asked if there was a manager available to help that day. I was told yes, and to ask for Joe. I drove the 45 minutes to the Burnet location. I explained the history of the shoes and showed Joe the damage. He pulled the sole off even more. He asked me to leave the shoes with them. However, I explained that we really did not feel comfortable with that and would prefer a refund of the $27.01. Joe said that he as a manager could not approve it. Joe clarified that the owner would decide whether they would offer me a refund in exchange for them KEEPING the boots that they have ruined. I politely declined & asked for the name and phone number of the owner. I took photos of the shoes while sitting in the parking lot. Tried wearing them once more. This is just the third time worn since they added the sole--& the tread is gone. Slipped in the rain and hurt her ankle. Ruined shoes.UPDATE: 10/26. Received reply. Owner refuses to refund. Persuaded me let them repair again.UPDATE: 11/27. Burnet replaced soles. Durable but dangerously slick in rain even after wear. Lining glued misaligned. Shipped repaired shoes, which I appreciated. Burnet location is polite.Refusal to refund bad work/damaged shoes, and treating customers as if our request for a refund is an attempt at theft, is a bad policy. They fixed it enough after two months, but I will not return.

On 2019-Jun-04 I had 5 mm lift added to right heel of Oofos size 14 mens sandal for $43.00 at the Austin Shoe Hospital on Burnet and Steck in Austin, TX. Since the Oofos sandal was $49.95, the cost was almost twice the cost of the sandal. The service and craftsmanship were excellent. The only fault in the addition was a gap left above the heel that would let water in the groove which had not been covered.4 star rationale: I wish the cost had been cheaper and the hole above the lift had been filled. I was cautioned against using silicoln caulk on the sandal to fill the gap at the counter when I picked it up.I would definitely return for more shoe repairs.
