We arrived on a Saturday before noon and only had a 15 min wait which is unheard of. The food was so fresh and full of flavor. I was trying to be healthy so I got Joes Special. But at the waitresses suggestion, swapped out the bread for a homemade biscuit. Then my son ordered a hotcake and I decided to throw caution to the wind and got a side of blueberry hotcake for myself.Everything was so good! Hot cakes were fluffy and house sausage was full of flavor!! You cant beat the flavor of natural, organic or locally sourced ingredients. My only complaint is I need them to come a little closer to Cedar Park.

Went for breakfast and enjoyed the counter seating watching the cooks make big a** pancakes but i had ordered the eggs benny before spotting the flaps. But my benny was good. I ordered sausage with it instead of the pastrami. My friend had the oatmeal. The coffee served was a good medium roast. All the servers were very nice. Plenty of parking all around the building on the property.

The hot cakes and eggs Benedict were very good. Very disappointed with the biscuits and gravy. No flavor and biscuit was under cooked. It was extremely hot in the restaurant and the seats were uncomfortable and at a bar but we waited 40 min already for a table so we sat there. The server was awesome but the gentleman in the front taking the reservations was a bit short with everyone. There is no where to wait indoors for a table and it was almost 100 degrees outside. Overall I expected more with all the rave reviews.

I had the counter burger and counter fries and as you can see, it was outstanding. Solid service, great atmosphere, piping hot food, and taste/quality/portions that leave you very satisfied. My wife had the biscuits and gravy and we sampled each others food. The sausage had just the right amount of flavor/space to it to not be bland, but not so much that it over powered your palette. The biscuits were well made and the gravy had just the right consistency. We will return the next time we’re in town!

The fresh ingredients really shine in all the food we we ordered. I was most impressed with the dish they had with my name on it haha!. The pancake is BIG, like thick and the size of the plate. They also mean it when they say fresh squeeze, they had a giant fruit squeezer on the end of the counter, that must be someones daily workout. We ate inside one day and on our last trip there was a wait so we just placed our order to go and it was ready pretty quick.

Food was exceptional however service at the door was less than subpar. My coworker was greeted by a disgruntled hostess with little to no patience. Also, the website advertises an early bird special for $8.50, but when submitted online, the offer is not honored and instead comes up as $10.75 + tax. He tried to inquire about it and she did not explain or honor the special. Food gets 5 stars but that’s it!

Saving this place for a “no-time-to-make-my-own-breakfast” mornings. Nice to have an outlet for a good biscuit at 7 am when, still, many places aren’t open (must be a laid-back atx lifestyle!)Biscuits are fluffy fresh, bacon crisp (although, i didnt want bacon, but thats on me for not clarifying), chicken is not over-salted. My fave - poached eggs.2 🌟🌟off for misleading menu prices (on google map page its $7.50 for Early Bird, and I was charged $9.25).But 1 🌟 back for a patient and cooperative service.

He sure was quick to sit party’s of 3/4 but no room for 5 that have been waiting... honestly think it was the color of our skin, as we were the ONLY Mexicans and I have video proof of us sitting w new waiting crowds and getting sat before us although we’ve been waiting before them. Overall, the food is very delicious, prices are a bit expensive but the city is becoming expensive too. I am giving it a 3 star (because there is no other half star here), for which I wish I could give a 3.5 star. My reason to give them a 3.5 star rating is mainly because I encountered an issue when requesting a table for two. I was not allowed to be seated until we were both present. So, if you plan to eat here make sure everyone is present.

Small place with great food. I had the Joes Special with a biscuit. They make their biscuits in house. The dish is basically scrambled eggs served over fried potatoes. Simple with great flavor. Yall, we are not from Austin so we searched local favorites. That pancake pic got me. Get there, super busy but got in quick. They have indoor and patio seating. We sat at the counter and got to watch the cooks doing their thing. They were rocking it!A well oiled machine, workers looking happy despite the hot and being oggled by hungry customers. Husband got the plain pancake, huge and fluffy. I got the pancake with strawberry and homemade whipped cream. Asked for honey with the hot syrup, a taste revelation! We were here for a business trip and we ran into this restaurant by chance and I’m glad that we did. Best service ever. Their pancakes were out of this world. Our waiter Will was awesome. He topped off my coffee 3 times and kept checking on us to make sure that everything was to our liking and to see if we needed anything else. Very rude service to begin with. “Wait outside” was the initial greeting from the host. The food was average at best. Eggs were dry, toast was stale, and food was bland overall. To top it all off, they failed to include plastic ware even though we asked twice AND the employee said they placed plastic ware in the bag (which we needed as we were staying at a hotel, not bringing the food home). This is definitely a place we’ll never visit again in Austin.

Had an exceptional experience at counter cafe today 4/25, the food was delicious & our service was amazing! However, at the very end we witnessed a female server get very hostile, rude & unprofessional with the bus boy. She was upset about a drink order and ended up causing an unpleasant scene for the rest of the outside guests, she then proceeded to demand that he stop bussing his table and ripped the silverware from his hands and all but dragged him to the table that SHE was responsible for. I will come back for the food but if she is our server I would 100% request a new one.

In like 2007, a hip foody girl took me here, and it was amazing—the old Lamar location with its horrendous bathroom, amazing vibe, and perfect American diner food. Eventually, I moved East, and so did Counter Cafe, the girl moved to NY.When you cant cook eggs for yourself, and you want to drink diner coffee in a thick, heavy mug, this is the place. The staff will know you after a few visits. The hot sauces available upon request. They do fancy lunch too (the quail!), when half your party wants lunch and the other half inevitably still wants breakfast. This is kind of place where it feels totally natural to read an honest to god newspaper.

Counter Cafe is a local favorite, which means that particularly for the brunchtime crowd, you can expect a wait. Compared to peers in the area however, Counter Cafe generally offers a quicker turnaround to get you seated.Offering friendly service and many locally-sourced menu items (their local coffee is quite good), Counter Cafe is a great option not only for those in the neighborhood, but those looking for a variety of menu options. From pancakes to eggs benedict to fried chicken biscuits, Counter is likely to have something to catch anyone’s eye.For those traditionalists looking for a good pancake breakfast/brunch, bring your A game to Counter Cafe; each of their hot cakes is the size of a plate, and thick and fluffy to boot. Slightly sweet and creamy batter lends itself well to this large hot cake, and once buttered up and dressed with maple syrup (or whipped cream, strawberries, chocolate, or however your taste may lean) these hot cakes are certainly among the top contenders for best in show (and taste!). Pair it up with a side of nitrate-free bacon and you won’t be disappointed!

Good location. Great atmosphere and aesthetic. I sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the chefs. No one in the kitchen wears gloves/hairnets, which I love the al naturel but left me concerned for health codes..? Prices were a little high... I had Joes special which was $13, Im gluten free but didnt bother asking for gf toast for a $2 charge. It was very tasty, love spinach with my eggs and potatoes! The sausage was amazing, great flavor! Orange juice was $4 for a glass. Sitting at the counter felt a little impersonal and awkward for the interactions with the waiter behind your back. *Update* Still our favorite pancake spot in Austin. If you like pancakes, this is the place to go. They are huge! They have original or blueberry options. It was our first time here and my husband ordered 2 of the original and I ordered the porridge. I was disappointed with my option, but the best item on the menu for anyone looking for a vegan/vegetarian/healthy option. As for the pancakes, my husband was only able to eat most of one pancake. I tried them, as well and they were so delicious. The pancake itself had a sweetness to it that would make eating it without syrup or just some powdered sugar a healthier way to go. As we were finishing, I noticed the table next to us had actually ordered one pancake to share. Smart idea.As for the service, it was okay. Waiter wasnt super attentive as we had to wave him down if we wanted something and he hardly made eye contact while standing at our table. The parking is very limited, we lucked out and got a spot, but keep this in mind if you dont know the area or better parking alternative.
