Wonderful bookstore with staff who love poetry and literature and are warm. They also make interesting recommendations. The poetry bundle option (20% off!) is hilarious and fun. I bought a Polish Poetry Bundle yesterday. Great place to get lost browsing. So nice to have this resource locally.

My go-to for finding new and exciting books. I am not personally good at finding new books and am not an avid reader as much as I once was, but they are changing that! Their recommendations were all specific and perfect. I’ve also had them do recommendations for other people. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. This place is the exact reason small local bookstores are essential. The online and big chain stores aren’t going to find you something specific to your tastes. Shop here!! They’re amazing!

If youre into fiction, especially modern fiction, this is the place for you! The owner is super sweet and her store is clean and covid-friendly. My boyfriend is into non-fiction which is why I only gave it 4 stars, he didnt really have a selection to browse.

Attended an Austin Community College literary event here. It was small and personal experience for me. All the books there are from independent publishers you wont find your bestselling books here.

Im a little biased as I have a partner who works here, but Im gonna try to ignore that. Malvern is just... utterly unique and so important. I still probably go to Half Price for the bulk of the books I need from authors with 7/10 name recognition or higher. But what Malvern provides is the opposite: individualized recommendations from the most voracious readers (most of them writers, too) youve ever met. Its come in and well give you something new to try, in the vein of the kinds of video stores Quentin Tarantino bragged about working at. This place is the antidote to Amazon.Plus, if youre a poetry nerd, youll recognize it can often be difficult to find any whatsoever in chain stores or at Half Price, let alone the problem of developing a compass for what to try. No such problem here. Every time Ive gone in to scratch that itch, Stephanie or one of the other poets on staff has listened attentively to the kind of thing I feel like reading and then made a beeline to Snatch something off the shelves and shove it in my hands and that kind of experience is priceless.

Awesome book store! Its such a great, friendly shop with a decent selection for the size of the place. I love the feeling of walking in there...a total mix of people and dogs! I could spend hours browsing at books, and their gift shop which is so cute and eclectic! Books are fairly priced, and I rarey leave there without purchasing something.

A very unique and local bookstore that specializes in selling books by local as well as international authors. One of my favorite things about this store is that it places more emphasis on highlighting books that were not best sellers but still have quality content. Already loving the recommendation by the store staff.

At Malvern Books we live however briefly the life of the mind, open to other peoples new ways of thinking and able to share our own, far from groupthink and boring big beige boxes of corporations. Places like Malvern and BookWoman and our hundreds of artist & maker & learning spaces keep us alive and growing in the brain, the only real estate we own outright.Everything with power to change the world starts in one human brain. Its hunger for new inputs to work with drives us, at our best - our most human. The more you give it to do the stronger it becomes, same as working out. You might go not because you write or quite get what is read or even agree with it, but because right now you do not.

Hands down my favorite bookstore in Austin-just on selection alone. Indie publishers galore (poetry, essays, literature/short stories and graphic novels). The store itself is pretty chill and feels intimate. Staff has been helpful every time Ive visited. They hold events here too, poetry readings and book debuts. That kind of thing. And they have ice cream once a month at one of these, so Ive been told.Every book Ive purchased was recommended through their Instagram and has been a winner-I take it as a sign that they know their stuff.

This is my favorite bookstore in the neighborhood. It is super chill and the people are super nice. They have a pretty large variety of books along with a little section for cards and nick nacks. They do a lot of author events too -we saw Junot Diaz in the past. This a great place to stop in if you are waiting for your movie next door or after dinner on the block. Also, dont forget about the book annex they have a couple of doors down.

This is one of the great small independent book stores in the U.S., specializing in the work of small presses that publish poetry, fiction, and translations of both. It is also a welcoming and comfortable place to just visit and sit around and read.

Although Malvern Books is a recent addition to the area, I have high hopes for this niche book store. They specialize in translated works in particular, and the staff are both friendly and extremely knowledgeable about many of the works that they carry. They have semi-regular poetry readings, and have specials focusing on specific genres from time to time.

Malvern Books presents Austins society of literary lovers with an amazingly well-sourced collection of Texan-Poetry Anthologies paired with a carefully curated blend of fictional breadth which spans from the critically acclaimed to the cant-tell-whether-its-creativity-or-just-plain-crazy, from experimental futurists to canonical classics, and from the Kindle self-publishers to the Pulitzer-Prize winners.I wish, however, there were non-fiction sections dedicated literary theory, cultural criticism, memoirs or unorthodox histories.
