I brought an old evinrude motor to Mike and he was able to get it running in 2 weeks, Noone else in town would even take a look at it. After that I was having some trouble with the impeller and Mike helped me replace it at no charge. A solid mechanism upfront about what is possible for repairs

Mike is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. He has helped me on multiple occasions with a variety of motor sizes. He has even helped me via phone to fix a problem at the lake. Great guy and even better mechanic.

I used Mike after hitting a rock and breaking the skeg on my bass boat. After taking lower unit off and sending it out to be repaired I needed to enter a tournament. He helped me by putting the lower unit off his personal boat onto mine. I brought it back and he switched them after mine was returned and it works great. No one else would have done that and it says a lot about the character of him. Thx Mike for what you did and I will be bringing it back to you if I screw up anything else.

Mike is a great boat mechanic, knowledgable, capable, very reasonably priced, and quick! I could not be happier and will continue to have him work on my boats for as long as his shop stays open.Im on my 5th boat in the last 20 years, so Ive met a lot of boat mechanics. They are all over the map in terms of quality and value. Mike is the best I have found in all categories. I even called him with a question while I was out on the water. After that phone call, he even called me back a couple of times with additional info he had researched. Thats going the extra mile! All of the local central Texas fishing guides bring their boats here -- in other words, people whose livelihoods depend on their boats working. Thats the best recommendation there is.

Mike has been working on boats his entire life and has a lot of knowledge, especially when it comes to older boats. He got my 1980’s bass boat up and running in no time!!! Great service!!

This was the worst mechanic experience of my my life. After the 1st interaction I started to feel like my boat was being held prisoner by this guy. (Facts: 1)He knew i didn’t have a way to haul it. 2) He knew it was a new experience for me and that i didn’t know any other boat mechanics yet.) He charged me just over $1400 claiming to have replaced the timer base, did some linkage work and rebuilt the carburetor. Had a long list of things he said he had done. It sounded like he had really worked thoroughly on the motor AND PUT IN LOTS OF HRS. 2 months after this fiasco and with the problem never fixed, i found a wire grounding out on the motor (WHICH WAS THE ENTIRE PROBLEM). CLEAR AS DAY and the boat runs fine now.My question is, “How could he have done so much work on my motor and NOT SEEN THAT???” How is it that I fixed the problem?? I know nothing about motors and was willing to pay a licensed professional to eliminate any risk. He told me he was the least expensive mechanic in town at $125/hr and that “Everybody else charges at least $180/hr.” This is where my suspicion began because EVERY OTHER MECHANIC i had spoken to by phone has said $60/hr and that they tie the inspection cost into the labor. NO other mechanic i’ve dealt with since gas given me that horrible feeling in my stomach that says, “This guy is going to clean me out if i let him”. Hiring a mechanic should not be a stressful experience. I trusted him to be fair. After not fixing the problem and charging me upwards of $1400 on the 1st visit, he seemed a little more interested in helping me find the problem and of course, not knowing where to turn, i made the mistake of taking it back to him, only this time i told him that i wasn’t rich and i don’t have the kind of money he has been asking me for. I asked him NOT to work on my boat until he gives me a quote for the job because of the last experience, moments later i thought, “What if he just disregarded my verbal request??” I thought I’d better send that in a text (because of his odd tendency to skyrocket a price), and so i did. That seemed like it just ticked him off worse, almost as if to have made it personal and he called me back immediately stating that i couldn’t get my boat out of there for less than another $700 dollars mentioning replacement of two batteries (only one battery turned out to be bad) and he basically just connected a cable to one of the batteries (if there was any labor involved) I argued with him that it’s only one bad battery that costs roughly $125. I told him that i’m no longer interested in his services and that i’d be by to pick up my boat. I saved myself when i texted him not to do any more work without a quote (in order to get it on record). I’m pretty sure that i saved my boat too because there is a yard full of at least 15 other boats tucked away there that i didn’t see move in the 1 1/2 months that i had been dealing with him. But in all this, the question remains, “Did he put a lien on all those other boats because his price was so high on them that they couldn’t get it out??” Are these all the people who didn’t “Get it on record?” It seemed like he was trying to run up a bill so high on me that i could never pay it and add storage fees that eventually would result in losing my boat for his personal gain. This is actually my true suspicion. He was still so personally bothered that i protected myself that he couldn’t let it go without a farewell “sucker-punch” and STILL charged me just under $200 for having brought my boat back in. He stated, “No boat is leaving here until i get paid”. This leaves so many unanswered questions about him as a person that i really don’t want to know. At the end of it all he had the audacity to tell me he did me a favor. I have the entire conversation recorded for safe keeping. I have since found out i have friends that have made the same mistake of taking their boat to him. I’m sorry to have given him any money at all. My opinion is that Michael Peyton, Owner of Austin Action Marine, in his abuse of customers is psychopathic at best.

I have known the owner Mike for over 20 years and been in the shop multiple times. He does do the work and does a great job! He will be very honest with you and never overcharge. Ive seen him be more than reasonable with people and work on boats that others were not able to fix. He and his staff also continue to learn and go above an beyond to help their customers. This is a family business that has been around for many years, they are honest, trustworthy and very knowledgeable. If you need a local expert boat mechanic, then these are you guys!

I used him twice. The first time took 2 months, but the issue was resolved successfully. He seemed like a straight shooter. The second time was a disaster. I was quoted a 1 month turn around. 4 months later I got my boat back. The primary issue is that I paid for work that was claimed to have been done, when in fact it wasn’t. When I picked up my boat the battery was left on and was dead. There was no way to check his work. Once the issue was discovered to be unresolved - he was unresponsive to phone calls or voice mails. Other minor annoyances could be mentioned here- but it serves no purpose to pick it a part. The truth his, he is overwhelmed and under staffed. His attention to details are non-existent. My boat under his supervision is suspect at best.

My name is Shelley Bland This so called boat mechanic is a thief. He said he was working on our boat but made 3 trips to the beach while he contracted other mechanics and fiber glass people doing the work. He doesnt perform the work himself. Not only was our boat there forever, but it did not run properly when we got it back. Many nuts and bolts were loose. Things were not properly but back together which caused other problems other than the reason we took it to him. They damaged the wake plate and didnt even replace when we let him keep the boat another 3 months to fix that. Please think twice before using someone like this. He handled everything poorly. We are business owners and would never treat anyone thus way.

LoL ... Ive used Austin Action Marine for over 31 years and there is a reason why they have been in business for over 31 YEARS! I have been referring people to this place for over 3 decades and never have I ever heard a negative comment about them. They are the ONLY people I trust with my boats...My question to the remarks above would be after a week of knowing they were a terrible thieves.. Why would you leave your boat for over 9 months?

This guy has been helpful. He seems to be a knowledgeable honest boat mechanic. I brought in an old johnson 20 hp and he gave his professional opinion that it would be time to purchase a new motor. A year later, he gave me a fair price on a tohatsu 20 hp. I could have found it lower online, but when I called the other tohatsu dealer on 2222, the gentleman quoted me a price that was $1000 more than the guy on Hamilton Pool Rd. The price I paid from the guy at Austin Action Marine was lower than the price I would have paid at Cabelas for the same exact engine. In the event of trouble, having the convenience of taking the motor back to Austin Action Marine at a location near the lake I frequent, and also having the good customer service ive experienced seems to be worth having purchased the motor from Austin Action Marine instead of an online source.
