Not willing to work with brand new, non-electrical customer provided parts (hubs, control arms, ball joints). Was hoping I could rely on them after being referred, but owner told me no. Unfortunately continuing to look for mechanic willing to lend a hand with labor.

These guys are top notch. Extremely fair and honest, very knowledgeable. They will give you a no BS assessment of what needs to get done to get your car running and keep it in good shape, and will do only whats necessary - no up sell. They will even pass up on jobs if they feel they are not the best qualified and refer you to someone who can do a better job. Heck, I even overheard them sending a customer to another tire shop because the types of tires they were looking for were specialty and they would get a better deal there vs. having them order them.

Amazing service and kind staff. I went in because me car was making an awful screeching sound and didn’t seem safe to drive. Even though they had an hour and half wait, the kind mechanic was able to quickly check (because I didn’t have anyone to pick me up) and saw that it was just a minor fix. They moved the part back where it belonged, didn’t charge me, and I was out of there in less than 30 minutes. Thank you, I will be back the next time I need service!

I live out of state and work in Austin in the winter so I don’t have the benefit of a trustworthy network of service providers. That changed today. I was referred to Lawson by a neighboring business and let me just say, these guys are professionals. They properly diagnosed and fixed the problem, didn’t try to sell me any unneeded repairs AND accommodated me on short notice. I had a great experience and highly recommend them.

Honest / Expert / On timeWouldnt take a vehicle anywhere else!

They promised to do the 20,000 mile service, basically an oil change, just as VW did. They didnt. When I called in because the coolant light came on and I asked if they topped off everything, they were rude and told me to just take it to the dealership. When I took it to the dealership, they found they didnt top anything off and didnt change the recommended filter. I wasted about $200 at this place and wont go back. I cant trust them and they didnt even try and make it right.

Its extremely important to find an automotive shop that instills immediate trust and confidence. Ive found it here on Hyw 290 with Lawsons. It was a brake job. Sounds simple, and it is. But it can create an atmosphere with concerns of over-charging, over-diagnosing, and over-stepping whats immediately necessary. And what do you know -- this was the exact opposite. Scott acts as an instructor and patient customer activist, answering all the anxious questions that are so often the case. They took care of my most urgent needs and gave me an overview on what I needed to be prepared for in the next few thousand miles in the way of maintenance. And might I add, theres a beautiful black lab resident dog that is nothing at all if not a therapy dog to help us dog-lovers pass the time while we wait. His name is Gunner. About 20-25 years ago, I happened to stop by Lawson Tire and Automotive’s shop on a lark to see if they would honor a coupon special from a different, nearby garage.It was then that I met Scott at the front desk. The rest is pleasant history, as Scott and his mechanics have served us well while maintaining our various Mazda, Volvo, Hyundai, and Subaru vehicles during these past 20 years, or so.Personally, I’m 73 years old and have owned probably 20 automobiles and trucks since 1965. During this span, I’ve never encountered a more honest, upfront, and reliable group of auto experts than these people at Lawson Automotive. Even when things go unexpectedly wrong or, for whatever reason, are not quite-fixed, Scott is quick to acknowledge the situation, accept responsibility, and do everything reasonably possible within his control to rectify the problem.On top of our positive recommendation for Lawson, is the fact that they have operated in their present location, with relatively little personnel turnover, since at least the mid-1990s, when I first walked in and redeemed a competing business’ coupon.Best of all, I doubt there’s a more-honest, knowledgeable, accessible, and articulate guy regarding automotive servicing to work with than Scott, who runs the operation, answers the phone, and is the guy typically there at the front desk to discuses your needs and options as you enter their shop.Highly recommended!

The level of service Ive received at Lawsons is nothing short of exceptional. This alone makes them stand out above the others. The communication, suggested routes for most cost-effective repairs and friendly manner make this outfit a pleasure to do business with. I shall certainly use them in future.

Fairly difficult to schedule with them, but they do a good job and I believe them to be honest. I think they’re understaffed but they get it done. I’d recommend them.

Came in for an oil change gracias to Groupon. I was able to make an appointment on Wednesday for the following Monday. Service was great and felt equally great to support local business. Would certainly come back again for future service.

This was the worst experience went in for a simple part and they did the worst job. My truck ended up 10x worse than when I took it in. It barely runs and my dashboard doesnt work now and even my wipers wont work. They just charged me to break my truck. I dont recommend this place to nobody.

If you have a German car take it to Stew @ Lawson!I took my 2010 VW EOS here when I noticed my coolant was leaking. I was referred to Stew from my boss at Lon Smith Roofing. I was a little hesitant at first because most places dont like working on German cars but I was told Stew was a GERMAN CAR GURU so I gave it a shot.Stew inspected my car and told me he had found a few problems the Vacuum pump, oil gasket and the water pump were all leaking.I called my car warranty company, they told me everything was covered but I would need to take it in to the VW dealership. I let Raymond with Onion Creek VW know what Stew with Lawson Tire & Auto had found while inspecting my car, I then made arrangements to have it towed to VW.The next day I received a call back from Raymond, he was extremely impressed with what Stew had found while inspecting my Volkswagen, Raymond said Scott definitely knows what hes talking about Stew was on point with everything Raymonds licensed VW technician found wrong with the car.Thank you Stew!!!

If you are in SW Austin and ever need work done on your car, I HIGHLY recommend Lawson Tire and Automotive !! Ive taken my car there a few times at the recommendation of a colleague and have never been disappointed. Today was no exception! I was super worried b/c yesterday my 19 year old acura (Yes, I said 19!!) overheated on my way home from work & I was afraid I had caused some serious damage driving it 12+ miles when the temp. gauge was pegged past the H. Took it in this a.m. w/out an appointment. They had analyzed it & called me by 1 p.m. to let me know w/99% certainty what the problem was and the estimate to fix it (I also asked them to change the oil while they were at it!). When I gave Scott the o.k. to move forward, he said they would fix what they thought was the problem (and the less expensive solution), and if it didnt work call me back. If it DID work, they would call me as soon as my car was ready to go. He called me back just 2 hours later with the good news that what they thought (the 99% certainty) was in fact the correct solution & my car was ready to go! W/the repairs AND the oil change, my total was LESS THAN $200!!! I was so worried this was going to be a major expense, but my trusty little Integra LS Special Edition is back on the road, safe and good to go! Thanks again to Scott & the team at Lawson for taking good care of me and my car. As long as I have a car, I will take it to Lawson when it needs service or repair! :-)
