Had my transmission die while traveling through Austin. Little did I know… the transmission was just the beginning. My little car had been running with a whole lot of broken bits and pieces and Philip really worked with me to get me back on my wheels. My little civic Carmelita bounced back and is fresher than she’s been in years, peppy torque, cold AC blowing like an arctic wind. Really grateful for their team over there. 🐸

ABSOLUTE SCAMMERS!!Not only did they keep my car longer than the estimated time (about a WEEK difference) but also when the time came for payment the price was double what the estimate was without ever consulting me about it. And to top it all off they did not perform half the work they said they did to my car. Let me repeat that. They DID NOT PERFORM THE WORK THEY CHARGED ME FOR! Unprofessional, dishonest, shady, and unbelievable that they advertise this location and that this type of business happens at a well known and reputable name. Do NOT agree to a handshake cash deal even if they say they could save you money that way because that is what that manager Phil pulled on me for months costing me HUNDREDS of dollars! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!

I exclusively use AAMCO on s. Lamar because I have continuously gone in and felt confident I am being properly taken care of and not being sold on services I dont actually need. The service is phenomenal and they are the most trust worthy mechanics I have ever worked with. I will never take my cars anywhere else!My most recent visit I had a very costly issue but Phil did some research and found there was a recall that saved me literally thousands!

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I was quoted $1,089 for parts and labor and told my car would be done later that afternoon or the next day. I also asked if he would be willing to change my oil since he already had the car up. Car took an extra day, my total was over $1,300 because of two other parts that were installed and I wasn’t informed of and they didn’t even change my oil. Do not take your car here.

Phillip and the team at AAMCO were amazing. I had taken my car to both a dealership and another shop prior and neither was able to diagnose the issue I was having with a thumping noise and shuddering when accelerating. AAMCO was the first to suggest I replicate the noise by driving with the technician who would be working on it. They quickly diagnosed one problem, were extremely communicative throughout the process (even sent me a video recording of what was causing the issue) and promptly fixed it. Where Phillip went above and beyond was helping me navigate a complicated insurance situation regarding another issue with a previous repair by another shop. Again w/ great communication. I know he was busy, but he made me feel like his only customer.

My transmission went out a few weeks ago on my way back from business outside of Austin, I had my truck towed to Aamco Siouth Lamar, that was when I met Phillip, he was I believe the manager, my transmission need a full rebuild, which they completed for the price stated. After getting my truck back home a problem arose with a bearing outside of the transmission, I took it back to Austin and not only did they replace the bearing at no charge, Phillip even deliver my truck to me at a meeting place between Houston and Austin late last night at no expense to me. Phillip went above and well beyond what the majority of managers would have done. Thanks again Phillip you are truly head and shoulders above the rest πŸ‘Kerry OwensMontgomery TX

Have a older Chevy Avalanche that needed a transmission rebuild. Spoke with Philip, who was great to work with. Great communication and worked with me on the pricing. Fixed the transmission, as well as a couple of other things from a previous incidence that was overlooked by myself. Communicated before doing anything extra. I usually like to take care of my vehicles myself, I tend to have trust issues. Highly recommend and will go again when need arises.Thank you Philip!

Took it in for an assessment of what repairs might be needed before I sell my car. Dropped it off at 8:30am, couldn’t pick it up until 5pm. Cost me $139 for this assessment, which seems like a lot. They suggested I replace the front brakes and rotors. The quote was for around $550 - which is also on the high end given that rotors & brake pads for this car cost around $150-$200 total. Phillip was plenty friendly, and certainly could have suggested a number of high-cost repairs but he seemed honest when saying that brakes were really the most pressing issue. Minor thing, they didn’t use those little paper floor mats and got grease and dirt on the floor, which I had just spent a bunch of time shampooing.

Mr. Phillip Reyna and his team were very helpful. I was having issues with my Wrangler that involved noises in the transmission area. I went in to see if they could help and Phillip was very professional. He said nothing would be done without my consent and they would take a look at what was the problem. After one day I got a call and he informed me that I needed to clean up the clutch and flywheel of the Jeep. He sent me pictures via txt and I saw what he was talking about. He then informed me that the clutch and flywheel needed to be replaced, the transmission was in good shape but those two parts needed to get replaced. I then informed him to proceed with the work and I am very happy I did. The Jeep has never been better. Everything works great, since then Ive had no issues. I most definitely recommend you visit Phillip. Very honest and nice gentleman. He was a straight shooter from the beginning. You wont be disappointed.

This place is great! I moved nearby and needed to get some things looked at in my car. After reading otherΒ reviews,Β I decided to give them a try since it would be super convenient. SinceΒ I know nothing about cars (a mechanics dream customer), I had to place a ton of trust in what I was being told and could only hope I wasnt being ripped off.Β Im glad I did and wont hesitate next time. I had an unfortunate minor accident and did not realize the damage until after they did a thorough inspection of my car, which they did. Once I was educated about the extensive repairs that were needed, Phillip also made sure that I could afford to have it done. Within a couple of days, they had her back up and running and just like new! They are a bustling place (that alone should tell you that they are good), so you may need to wait a little longer than your typical mechanic, but I assure you that they make sure everything is done correctly and not just rushing to get you out. Phillip, in particular, is accommodating, and from the little I saw that man deserves a raise! Thank you, AAMCO!

I live nearby this shop, and when the starter on my car died, I walked to this shop and inquired about getting a tow truck to drop my car off at the business. Unlike any other mechanics, who just would’ve towed my vehicle and charged me for the diagnostic, the manager let me borrow his portable battery charger first, to see if the battery was the issue. Before any repairs were made to my car, the manager sent me photographs of the repairs needed and explained everything carefully, with detail. Before he did any work, he offered to show me what was wrong at the shop.Couldn’t have been fortunate enough to find such a trustworthy shop - where the work is just as good! I needed brakes about a week after grinding started, left my car overnight to get a quote and they said my calipers were ruined. They wanted to charge me about $2500 between parts and labor for this job. Got a second opinion and my calipers were fine, and paid about $200. Also left the lot with a noise in my car because of a cap they left loose and had to turn right back. I am a female in my 20s and absolutely feel like they were trying to take advantage of me. They took advantage of me in my time of need.I’ve panicked for a long time with this truck; getting stranded, not starting. I haven’t had a hoopty since I was 18yrs old. And just when I needed help the most to keep it going until I could get another vehicle!Until my husband quit his job 4 years ago and we lost our home and property. I panic every time I get behind the wheel, hoping I don’t get stranded! I’d rather not have a heart attack before I get to retire!I’ve paid for him and his 2 kids for that long. He kept the truck going for that long. After being stranded, of course! But now he’s gone. I had no choice but to TRUST A Nation Wide Machanic shop to get it inspection ready. Or just to keep it going for a little longer! Until I could get an ID/Drivers license renewal. How did I get a loan; or 2 loans to be exact without an ID?? Not to mention a decades old signature! Not only did they NOT do the work I was charged an arm and leg for; that could have waited! But screwed me out of my money and time to get the work that actually needed to be done!!! And charged me twice for my own power steering pump; cash AND on one of my two loans I can’t afford; To help me out! Ha! And No receipt for it! What a joke! Spray painted, really! Same old pump!!!! Never even did a diagnostic check. Said we’ll do that at the 10 day check up; because my loans were maxed out!Philip thought he found a stupid female! Ha! They never even dropped the transmission; only pressure washed the under side and put in a new filter. You really think lm that stupid!!!???Because I was charged for work that was never done, I can’t get the work that does need to be done now! Now! After all that; I know they messed with other things, to insure I’d spend more $$$$$$ that I don’t have on that 10 day check up!And now my truck won’t start.!!!! It cost me about $500 in Ubers just to get to work for the 2wks it took them to do NOTHING but charge me for work they never did and made it worse!!!!!!They took advantage of me and my ignorance of mechanical issues and I will live on the streets if that’s what it takes to bring Them DOWN!!!!! I’m looking and will find an attorney to get them back; if it breaks me! I’m already broken so what do I care what it cost! Also the Better business bureau, news, reviews ect, ect, ect!!!! Whoever will listen!Nobody will fool me again!!Thanks again for the emotional and financial stress. I will never forget it.Signed: A Woman Scorned

My friend took her car here (against the advice of AAA to let the vehicle run for 20 minutes and take the car to AutoZone) and they charged her $400 for a new battery. Part of it was $129 for cleaning the old battery first as some sort of test solution (which they have to know is not going to do anything) and then $319 for a new battery installed which is beyond ridiculous. I understand their specialty is Transmissions but I definitely would not trust their honest opinion on something as expensive as a transmission.

I went to this guy to have my valve gaskets replaced and the alternator belt tightened. Job was $360, plus I gave them a $40 tip. As I drove home the compressor seized up and my compressor belt snapped off the truck (suspicious timing). I brought the truck back for review and they said the compressor was seized. I told them not to do anything because I didnt have the money to fix it right now, but they went ahead and decided to put a new compressor belt on for $100 which they knew would snap off a mile down the road (made it as far north as Chewys). The valve gasket job should of cost $300, plus they cheated me out of another $100 by putting a new compressor belt on a seized compressor. The truck would have been fine to drive home (3 miles north) with no air conditioning... Im very disappointed with the service, and I hope they didnt break anything else on my truck (2003 Tacoma with 125,000 miles). I do not recommend them.

I brought my 2005 Toyota Matrix to them yesterday for a second opinion after being told by Charles Maund Toyota that it needed a completely new transmission for $4,000 and thats after I had to pay them another $90 for them to tell me what was supposedly wrong with it. I brought it to AAMCO on S.Lamar at 8 am and only said the check engine light was on and it had a kick in low gears. They even dropped me off at work. I knew by 10:45 am what was wrong and how much it would cost. Turns out i only needed a valve replaced and it was only going to be around $700. A much better solution than the dealer. They had the car done by 5:30 and the customer service manager, Bobby, even picked me up at work even though they closed. The car runs perfectly! I couldnt be happier with their service. Honest folks who went out of their way to provide me with superior service. These guys could have easily done the same thing as the dealer and said i needed a new transmission, but they only fixed what needs to be replaced. Over quoted. The issue we had only costed $300 but they were telling us (without a proper inspection or even a test drive of the vehicle), that it needed all new brake pads and roters. This came out to almost $1200. Id choose another high quality mechanic in the area.

Our moving company, Jackalope Moving, has used James and the Aamco team a few times in the last couple years and they are the best! Prices are always fair, timing is always right, and the customer service is impeccable. Working with them is always a pleasure and we highly recommend this location! Again, the manager James, has an old fashioned way of handling his customers with care and respect, something that is rare these days!

They did free AC check which costs ~$80 in other autos. It was a thorough check up with the use of computer system. I got my AC fixed. It is working fine. I paid $140 for replacing two items and all the labor.

Went to James to have differential work done. Original quote was $ 1500.00 after truck on lift and apart now $2500.00. Took home & oil was leaking out differential. Took back to James front seal bad & wasnt part of original work no warranty & extra $ 1000.00. 1 1/2 yrs later 20 k miles down the road and out of warranty, same problem with the rear end. James arrogance is something to be desired as well. Sick of hearing commercials on the radio about how great these guys are. What a joke!

I was hoping to not have to come here and write a review. I hate doing these, so it should mean something that Im taking my time to write this. This place is a sham. I am out around $2,000 now. I wanted to get my brakes pads changed a while back, and they insisted my rotors were shot and had to be replaced as well. All four... Shouldve known then there was trouble. I decided they were the experts so if they say so I guess I just had to live with the price bump. Upon getting my car, I noticed a fair bit of rust on the new rotors and felt something was off. I went back to them and questioned them on the actual rotor replacement. Their mechanic checked it out and everything was right. They said the rust was normal and would come off with time. My wife and I couldnt really afford the repairs but had no choice so we were down a fair bit of money. Now over the last few weeks, Ive heard a lot of squeaking and so I brought my car to a shop I had starting using due to AAMCOs shadiness. My new shop tells me I need to replace my rotors and pads. What a surprise, right? I mentioned to them I had already replaced them and my new shop, showing me pictures of my rotors and pads, are telling me I was probably duped and all they did was put low end pads on old rotors. Ive since reached out to AAMCO and the manager would not even look at my car and just said thats what happens with rotors and pads and that every time they change brakes they change rotors too. (I know people that change their brake pads regularly, that would cost a fortune to do rotors every time). Oh but get this, he did offer to give me a deal over the other repair shops estimate. What a generous man! Im fed up. Now, with a 4 month old, I am going to have to shell out more money to repair something that Ive already paid for once. Please do not give this company business. Find someone else. Total sham.

Took my car to several places to work on the transmission and it was a nightmare. None of them could figure it out. I came across the AAMCO team at S. Lamar and they were able to identify the problem and correct it ASAP. Not only was it corrected but they were able to turn around the car pretty fast. Both James and Jerry were outstanding. Ill be back, Thank you AAMCO!

I originally took my car in to have the AC looked at. Based off of the great reviews and their free AC check advertisements. I was told that I would need to have the whole AC compressor replaced due to defective pipes for $1450.00. After a getting a second opinion my car only needed 2 new air filters (because of the model car i drive) and more freon @ a cost of $172 total. I have never had much luck when it comes to dealing with mechanics, (some say its because Im a women) but all I know is that if I was not smart enough to get a second opinion I would be paying a thousand plus dollars unnecessarily. Thanks aamco for confirming the belief that if you have breasts you will be taken advantage when you take your car in to a mechanic.

My friend pulled into this Aamco on Friday September 25 with an issue with her windshield wiper. Josh immediately came up to our window and asked us what was the problem. He looked at our broken windshield wiper and within 10 minutes repaired it for us. He was very helpful, kind, gracious, and knowledgeable.

After having at first had some problems with work done here, the new manager went above and beyond to ensure the problem was fully dealt with and did everything in his power to correct the situation. He even extended the warranty and redid all the work that had been done first time round free of charge.

I went in to get my check engine light turned off and James was very brief and seemingly unwilling to work with me as far as making me comfortable with working with him. I informed him I had been to other mechanics and was a little frustrated. He gave me my key back and said, Come back when youre ready to fix it. Granted, he said this with a smile. I did not appreciate the haste. It immediaty turned me away. They all cant be winners. Still looking for a mechanic.

Ive been hearing about them on radio a lot and then it happened. Check engine light came on. I brought it in and they diagnosed the problem in less then ten minutes. I didnt have time to get it fixed it but brought it the next day. Never have I seen service done so fast. When it came down to price I was honest about my income and the gm pretty much took off 150 dollars and let me pay over the next two weeks. I will be coming back next time the light shows its ugly face again.

Now Im believer. Google Reviews-Aamco Austin, Texas South Lamar & Lamar Square. Philip R. really came through in such a way I am indebted for the speed and delivery of the imminent repair. Aamcos Cavalry came to my rescue. I had known I had a broken clutch-Brad@Lube PitStop and Patrick@Advanced Auto Parts had nearly properly diagnosed it was something called a throw-out bearing which would require parts replaced-clutch assembly kit, and slave cylinder. Philip would later identify the culprit it as the pilot bearing exploded. The potential of these parts and costs began to pile up in my mind-especially the labor! Increasingly the pressure weighed heavily on my heart; wrenching, β€œI do NOT want to throw in the towel just yet and settle on financing a new pre-owned vehicle! I want my baby to work as she always has; just WAIT another year or two, PLEASE!” I tried to reassure myself. Resolved I was going through with this repair; my heart sunk, my mind rhetorically then asked of my heart, β€œGreat, now what?! How do you suppose we’re going to do just that, hmm?!” I knew the score; it wasn’t going to be easy; but alas I remembered the parable Jesus told about the barren fig tree; I read this passage, meditated on it and prayed about my situation pouring over Luke 13:6-9.Flashback: nearly a month ago when I drove from home @South Austin to Round Rock & back ~forty miles, as my truck she had been making a noise like a liquid metal rattling seemed to be increasing for a few days until the manual transmission literally froze up. I was driving in third gear on Oltorf throwing it in neutral flying down a hill through Pleasant Valley intersection then easing it back into third up the hill into the left turn lane onto Wickersham. Thankfully all this happened at this safe spot on a quiet night with little traffic. Taking a breath, praying with my head on the steering wheel, I turned off & on the ignition; it took tremendous strength to get the manual transmission back into gear that had just seized. Miracle-or was it?! The next morning Patrick@ Advanced Auto Parts ominously matter-of-factly said that the likelihood of it locking up again would most likely occur. I appreciated his candor; not ignoring that Im not of the woods just yet. I mobilized my heart into motion with due diligence going in person and calling over a handful of other mechanics & garages that might help; and Im sure they could’ve; trying to learn as much as I could about the challenge now confronting me. I could get the parts at a discount on a perks program and have them sent to my mailbox; Ok now I’m supposed to count on my billiards buddy Alan who has a friend Benny that knows Caesar an ACE certified mechanic?! Turns out Caesar has a body shop; not what I need! Lol. However I am thankful I have great friends that are willing to help. So I’d try one last time with Philip@Aamco. I was getting declines literally kitty-corner from Aamco because I admitted I didnt have great credit; Philip@Aamco calmly interrupted said looking me in the eye and said Paul, I want to help you (-The implication my credit situation was immaterial)” Even though I currently have a great job Amazon FC working hard the past six months; driving to San Marcos, racking up wear & tear at 68 miles round trip three days a week; knowing I am saddled in debt from student loans from a second degree; the fact remains my credit’s not so great. I was desperate for someone like Philip@Aamco to meet me half way. Not only was he able to secure financing for me that I can pay back in 90 days at no interest; he and his team hit a home run considering the circumstances, and were able to guarantee the repair-parts & labor AND under warranty- no less, at a much substantially lower cost than all other estimates! Philip also said if it requires a master cylinder or replacing the flywheel we’ll look at that IF or WHEN it’s needed. (He even re-surfaced the flywheel) So Philip your team at Aamco won you my customer loyalty and now Im a believer. So thank you again. So thank you again for making it!-Paul B.

Im from Chicago dont like to be taken for a ride and for the most part very direct an to the point. My Volvos (6 speed manual) clutch was staying on the floor after shifting from time to time, I felt that their may be air in the system and wanted to have it checked out but not at a dealer which would only want to replace the entire clutch. Without giving too much detailed information but only stating that the clutch sticks to the floor about once per week but there is no grinding what could it be.After speaking with Tolbert and the tech that looked at and drove my car, they were very upfront and honest with me and stated that I may only need to get the air out of the system, but because there are no apparent leaks it may be internal. They also stated that they could do it but if after bleeding the system I still have the same issue I would need to replace the Slave Cylinder and that would be a great deal of $$$.I decided to hold off at that point but truly thanked them for being upfront and honest with me about the issue and the opportunity to make an informed decision.I would recommend coming to see Tolbert at the South Austin AAMCO if you ever need honest service.Eric Slaughter - Chicago
