This place NEVER disappoints! The soup is always good! It’s our first time trying the stewed chicken and it wasn’t the best, the chicken seems old and hard.. However the Jollof rice was sooo good… Lesson learned, I will stick with the Egusi and Okra soups, they give me such warm feelings… Thank you for my touch of Africa in Austin

Disappointed. Ive craved Nigerian food since moving back to Austin. I took my sister to introduce her to the cuisine, it wasnt a good experience. She ordered Okra soup w/o meat it was full of large fish bones and pieces of stock fish and no flavor. I ordered Egusi w/ goat meat, better flavor but not as flavorful as Nigerian food I had in Houston. The goat meat was tender but the Egusi was also full of fish bones and stock fish. Seems like the soups are cooked with all meat and its picked out based on what the customer orders. The suya, plantains and fufu were good with. I wont be going back.

Im giving 2 stars because the host was very nice. I had the jollof rice with goat. The goat was stringy, dry, and there was very little meat, mostly skin. It was nearly impossible to cut with the table knife provided. It tasted like it had been frozen for a long time previous to preparation. The rice was hard and dry with little to no sauce. Definitely not a good representation of jollof in my opinion, more like this is a market and they also serve food. The atmosphere was not great. The television was blaring music, making it nearly impossible to carry on a conversation over dinner. Theres a bar, but it doesnt looked like its stocked. Alcohol is served in plastic cups. There were flies buzzing the table. Overall I felt like I was eating in an outdoor market versus a restaurant. It was a very unprofessional business atmosphere. For a $30 meal this was definitely not a good value. Im sure the food cost was about $1.50. I like to support local businesses, but I wont be back to this establishment.

Very laid back fun environment. Went for my sisters birthday. The owner takes your order. Wonderful personality!!! Feels comfortable, just being at home. We were trying African for the first time with a friend who has been there before. I had the goat pepper soup with plantains and it was delicious! If you love spice it definitely hits the spot. The goat was like eating tender beef tips. I was really surprised. My boyfriend had the Jollof rice with beef. OMG it was the best. It was so flavorful and had the perfect amount of spice. We cant wait to go back. If youre looking to venture out for some good food and music try this gem!!!

The food here is authentically delicious. The jollof rice was the best Ive ever had in my life so far and Ive had quite a bit made by a number of people. The chicken with the rice was so good I actually sucked the bone and bit into it to release the tasty juices!!THE OGBONO SOUP: I ate it for the first time and it was sooooo good. The texture was definitely new to me and reminded me of slimy egg white but the fufu balanced this out and made it easier to focus on the well combined flavors.I highly recommend this truly Nigerian eatery.

A hidden gem! The menu consists of many Nigerian and West African dishes. Walking in, the atmosphere is so relaxed. The lady at the register also took orders and was patient while we ordered. I got the jollof rice with fish. It was a treat, but expect healthy portions of palm oil. If you want less oil you can ask. I recommend giving this place a go!

We will not be coming back unless we see improvement.

Learn how to be polite. All of the positive reviews are clearly from family and friends. Im Nigerian and I dont believe that Nigerian restaurants should exude so much attitude. You are there to serve your customers not treat them terribly. I cannot support a business (Nigerian or not that is this terrible). Instead try Wasota African Cuisine- Laurence is phenomenal, kind, personable, and does not shame our culture by being an a hole. Also I can guarantee you that all of the positive reviews are from friends and family who arent being honest. If you are only polite and only give decent customer service to family and friends- then you arent polite

An absolutely horrible experience. Not professional at all. Disgusting attitude. Order $17 dollar plate of goat and rice only to find 2 small pieces of meat. One of the pieces actually being pork and the other beef... no goat in the dish. Not to say pork is against my religion. I should have asked for a refund but decided that some ppl just should not be in business and if it continues to be ran in such a manner, it wont last long. NOT WHEN THERE ARE EXCEPTIONAL AFRICAN CUISINE WITH PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDES MINUTES AWAY!!

Came here awhile back as I had a craving and this was one of the few places that came up. While the food was good they are definitely overcharging. I can mirror some other reviews and say if you’re expecting a huge plate of meat and rice you’d be mistaken. Two pieces and all the rice to fill you up so you don’t know how much meat you actually didn’t get. At $15-17 the markup is readily apparent.

Great food experience! A group of former Peace Corps Volunteers met here over the weekend, and it was great. I had the Pounded Yam (aka. fufu) with Pepper Soup and goat meat, and everything was perfect. The other people eating with me enjoyed their Jollof Rice, Fried Rice, and Fried Plantain dishes.Anyone looking for West African food in Austin should check this place out!(Note, Im not sure what their vegetarian options are, but most of the soups and stews are cooked with meat and fish. Even if you ask for a vegetarian version of a stew, it is probably going to have some fish and fish bones.)

An eye-opening experience. First time trying West African food. We got the jollof rice with chicken and the goat stew with Fufu. The jollof consisted of rice with tomato sauce. It was pleasantly seasoned but not too spicy. The fufu looked very much like mashed potatoes but was blander and is meant to be mixed with the main dish. The goat stew is only for the adventurous aegophage. Prepare for a mound of assorted flesh containing large blood vessels and some unidentifiable structures. But it tastes good, if you really like goat. The service is excellent, and you can watch Nigerian TV while you wait.
