We got there around 12:30am and they close at 1am. Everything was to go. Customer service was great and the service was fast. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs with Biscuit and Gravy. It was delicious. The portion was pretty good. I give this place 2 thumbs up 👍👍

This place Rocks! Love the 50s American Graffiti atmosphere and the food is pretty darn good as well I had the San Francisco Sourdough Mel Burger it was So GOOD! And you definitely cant go wrong with the milkshakes! Cool Date night spot or even early morning hangover food!👍🏾 coffee is good too!

We had an outstanding experience last night at Mel’s. We went late night and there were a lot of people. The service was friendly and fast we got our food relatively quick and our food was fresh and hot. The fries are crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle, I had a patty melt burger that was toasted to perfection cheese is melted bacon was crispy and avocado was fresh. Onion rings we’re PHENOMENAL!! Also my wife ordered a chocolate shake it was big enough to feed both of us because they give you the leftover if they don’t use in the aluminum cup. We will be going back.

First time at this restaurant. Enjoyed my order, the Mel Sampler. Very tasteful. Juan did an excellent job on customer service. He was very accommodating to everyone at my table. Very clean establishment and I look forward to eating there again.

The food, atmosphere, and service is amazing!My meal was the due e burger made blue style with fries. The fries were long, golden, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. Best fries in town by far! The beef tasted high quality and grain fed whether it was or not. My friend got the pancakes, ham, eggs, and sausage. While we didnt order them they also have classic shakes on the menu.They serve breakfast all day and are open late. Our order came quickly and we didnt have to ask out waiter for anything. She came by every five to ten minutes and refilled our drinks without being asked. This place deserves not only a five star rating but for you to give it a visit and check it out for yourself.

Price didnt justify the food. Food tatse and portions werent worth what you paid for. Atmosphere was relaxing with beautiful photos, jukebox and more. Parking was easy to find and free. Customer service was attentive to our request.

I remembered Mels Diner when it was on J Street when I was a kid. Big thing to go there on Friday nights and Saturdays. Went there tonight with my family and we had hamburgers and fries and it was great. Give it a try I think youll like it.

Food is always excellent as well as the service! My recent club sandwich had fresh crisp lettuce, tasty ripe tomatoes, thick slices of turkey, and generous amounts of perfectly cooked and crispy bacon. The Mel Fries were well seasoned and crunchy on the outside without being overly salty. Perfect family diner decorated with nostalgia including the background music!

Weakness in managerial presence apparent, forcing employees to work that much harder. And they usually only have 1 or 2 servers at any given time on the floor, so I would advise against trying to get a meal here in a hurry. The cooks at this location put out excellent food though, and that, coupled with pressed but decent service, keeps us returning. The atmosphere is chill, and the menu is a wide variety. Yummy breakfast plates served day and night!

Good food and great memories. My wife is absolutely in love with eating out at almost any Mels because we ate at the Folsom location frequently when she was pregnant with our son. It takes us back to a very special time in our relationship.

I’m the early riser from my family.So I went to Mels around 7am I was the only one in the restaurant.I ordered the wolf man which consisted of 2 eggs,2 bacon,1/2 ham steak and a round sausage and 2 pancakes and I ordered coffee.Coffee came promptly, my server Juan was very friendly and asked what condiments I would like with my breakfast. It was hot fresh and prompt . So I can say it was a 5 star morning. Thanks Juan.

The food is amazing. You can taste the old, original, unchanged, fresh ingredient recipe in every bite. Its been around since the 50s. The decor when you walk in isnt just for show, its Mels entire history. Everything from the staff, to the music, the food, and the atmosphere, just SCREAMS good time. Im so thankful to live in walking distance of such a wonderful, delicious restaurant. Ive already gone twice, and Ill be going back again and again and again, hungry for more.

Great place, nice 50s style diner. This is the Original diner starting the chain made famous by the film American Graffiti. Food was good, Staff very helpful. A sign lets you know they are short staffed probably due to Covid so the wait is a little long. Reccomended

The foods nice, and the atmosphere is very comfy! I cant remember having any problems here over the few times Ive eaten here. A lifesaver for late nite diner grub! Ive always loved the neon style that this restaurant goes for.Though I do have one gripe; Mels used to have a jukebox system where you could put in quarters into a mini jukebox and it would send the song request over the radio, and it seems that all of the jukeboxes are non-functional as of right now. On both occasions Ive visited recently, the jukeboxes turnstile menu was clogged with quarters. I have my suspicions that this feature is down because of Covid, either to discourage people from messing with them or because it was a cost that was cut in order to stay afloat. I hope that it comes back soon!

I couldnt find a restaurant open after 11 p.m., so I had a friend go to Mels Diner on J. Street with me. A kind & beautiful waitress recommended the California Omelet.Kudos to Shala as well as the chef. The food was addictively delicious. Omelettes are usually just that but he must have had a dash of love in his fingertips as he spiced the meal or just the Service was just that good but I had trouble saving half for tomorrow. Thanks to both !Food & service. Exceptional!! I will spread the word & be back.

I stopped in the middle of my meal to write this because. This is spectacular. This is the San Francisco burger on sourdough, and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. And the chocolate milk shake. Oh. My. Word. What did they put in there, angel dust? I guess that’s why they charge $14 for a flipping cheeseburger. I mean. They kind of deserve to. I ain’t even mad.

Always friendly staff. Occasionally they get too busy, but they try really hard. Also the food at this Mels is better than any other Mels Ive been to.

I have always felt neutral about Mel’s food and service however one experience with a waitress made me despise Mel’s forever. I had asked her what time my food would be out if I ordered and she told me 10-15 mins. I had to leave in about 30-45 mins so I made sure that she knew that which is why I asked. I was with a large group of friends and time was ticking and my ride had already gotten there and after half an hour of waiting for my food, I tell her to cancel my order because I have to leave and I let her know how long it had been. She started embarrassing me in front of my entire friend group arguing with me about the nuances of our conversation and essentially told me that “the customer is not always right”. I was appalled at her defensive behavior even though I was not even being aggressive with her to begin with, I simply stated my discontent with the timing issue and that I was going to leave because my ride was here. As I am walking out the door, she comes out with my food and yells across the whole restaurant “SEE ITS HERE ITS READY DO YOU WANT IT?” And I said no thank you and walked out. Needless to say my friends did not know what to tip her. Since then I’ve never stepped foot in a Mel’s again.

Fun, late night 50s diner atmosphere. The manager looks like Darius Rucker, the chocolate shake was enough for two and delicious. I had Cod with perfectly steamed broccoli and fabulous cornbread. Just off the freeway downtown Sacramento.

As usual, everything was awesome! Love Mels breakfast!

Went late night. Waited 30 minutes at least before a server came to the table. Not even an offer of water while waiting. I watched a guy at a nearby table be served and eat his entire meal while we waited. Staff apologized after but didnt offer any discount or comp items on our bill. Wouldnt choose this location again, but love Mels usually.

Make your own shake. Pineapple oreo? Turns out its amazing. And the server was super friendly and accomodating, especially for 11pm

The green onions on the potatoes were good. Busy but were seated right away. Cozy spot. Kinda expensive. 35 bucks for two plates amd coffee.

Yanno weve been to Mels here and there before but this was exceptional. It was hot and late when we decided on a diner dinner and everything was better than we expected! Hubbs had a hot turkey sandwich...yum...the turkey was not dry the gravy was savory and luscious and the stuffung peppery. That sounds like a win...but...I ordered a country scramble and WOW...eggs sausage bacon veggies potatoes cheese and country gravy. Ha! I win goin away! And plenty for lunch tomorrow. Prices very reasonable and lots of other options we nearly ordered. The nostalgic decor is part of the fun.

Visiting the area with a friend and stopped for breakfast. Pretty busy Saturday morning around noon, sitting at the counter was quicker, parking was a bit tight, but diner service was good. Hashbrowns were crispy and filling, steak was well seasoned and cooked medium-well like I requested, and eggs perfectly over easy. No complaints, I would definitely come again.

The host was really sweet and made sure we knew about the daily special.

Been coming here since I was little, take my kids now. Since the pandemic havent been but took my son out and the food was so good and with style, like a tasted soul in my meatloaf made me want to go back but I dont live in Sacramento so I will be to the one closer to our house. Thank you Mels for not losing touch in the taste like some of these restaurants have with this pandemic going on

Very happy they were opened. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Got in and got a table, ordered our desserts receive all under 20 min. Not to busy, moderate pricing, restrooms, tvs, lots of seating, great diner style food and beverages. Parking lot, disabled section for parking. Counter and table seating, great variety of foods, desserts and more. Enjoyable atmosphere and pretty clean. Came back Saturday night. Love this location. Tonight awesome got seated in less then 2 min. Got our food ordered and received less then 10 minutes. We come to eat here often. Love this Mels Diner great food and delicious desserts. Great breakfast, lunch, desserts and dinner.

This is a pretty good place to sit and relax with friends. The menu is about the same as everywhere else. The jukebox and decor add to the enjoyment.

Worst Mels Ive ever been to... and Ive been to multiple different ones... now I know why they have security guards... called before we went..and they said to come in no wait time... got there and the wait time was 20 min.. that was ok.. but a hour later and the rude hosts and even worse was the groups of people who literally pushed my 5 year old while we were waiting.. we left and went to ( Ink ) it was a much better experience.

The food was very good and the wait staff are terrific. I had a chef salad and took home the left-overs and they were good for 2 more meals. The banana splits are to die for.

Chicken Soup? More like Chicken Broth with a very Very little of anything else to call it Chicken Soup.Canned Chili Beans ? The Corn Bread made them ok. Yea not to thrilled on quality of Food however we did have Great Customer service.

Its very nice and clean, the staff is excellent and when you order, the young adults make sure that ur order is correct and they check up on you to see if ur ready for anything else, fun atmosphere escape being able to see the memorabilia,.

Wear a mask when you walk in, but somehow you cant get sick at your table. The masks are filthy! I get grossed out watching people handle their disgusting masks, and then my food. I could not allow myself to participate in the idiocracy, so I went somewhere else.
