Oh my goodness.. this is amazing BBQ. The Ribs were so meaty, BBQ beans were not to sweet and not to smokey just perfect. Macaroni and potato salads homemade. Hot link spicy but not so spicy that you couldnt enjoy it. Tri tip sandwich stuffed with tender slices. Only 30 minutes from the house so yes we will be back. A must try for anyone who likes BBQ

Smokey Pit BBQ is one of those hole in the wall places youll end up treasuring. Its a very small place with only three tables to dine in, so dont go there with a large group. But when you do go youll find some of tastiest BBQ in town for insanely reasonable prices.I ordered the 3 way plate that comes with bread, Chicken, Ribs, hot links and two sides. The Chicken was tender and juicy, the meat just slid off the ribs, and the hot links had some good spiciness to them. Everything came pre-marinated in tangy BBQ sauce. As for the sides I had, BBQ beans, and Mac salad; they were pretty tasty as well but nothing to write home about.Overall, I highly recommend Smokey Pit BBQ for anyone looking for a great BBQ.

This place gets 1 🌟 only because I have to put something. We ordered hot link, pork ribs, dark meat chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, fries and pasta salad. I have never, ever had dryer and dry, harder than hell, tasteless, bbq food until today. We asked for dark meat. How does part of the breast and back constitute dark meat? The last time Inchecked, dark meat consists of leg and thigh. OMG! Those ribs were NOT fall off the bone! They were waaaaaay overcooked, tough and dry, dry, dry!!! Fries were soggy, both, potato and pasta salad were more like pickle salad! The slaw was watery! Needless to say, it was our first and last time going there!

Been looking for a while that has good barbecue - especially brisket. Smokey Pit fulfills this.Some of the chicken is a little dry, but of the other stuff that Ive tried, its all delicious.I usually get the brisket, because if I go to barbecue, thats what Im going for!Also, the guy is super friendly and nice, so I never mind visiting. Convenient, hole in the wall location right off the freeway. Definitely worth a try!

This place has a very fine smoked BBQ, Sides were delicious and very pleasant to eat at the tables outside.. Definitely will eat here every time I am around Auburn .

Hands down the best BBQ place in the area. Small family business ran by a man who cares about his work. Its a small hole in the wall with little to no curb appeal besides a large star sign above the door. The food was absolutely delicious and the servings are more than fair. He smokes and cooks his meat outside their front door in a smoker that fills the air with a wonderful smell. The pulled pork is my favorite dish with soft and a tender pork mouthful. It goes along with two sides. He brings your food to you and keeps each portion separate using plates that have their own compartments. We will continue coming here every time we are in the area. His food is great and so is his attitude. Customer service was great. The building is small and there are only a few tables, even a few outside. But its a diamond in the rough right off of the freeway! Stop by often!

Quick stop at the pit on the way home from camping. First time going but definitely will not be the last. Awesome place. The family and i really loved it.

The BBQ food was very good. I got the 3 item Combo w/ 2 sides. I choose the Sliced Tri-Tip, Ribs & Chicken w/ Garlic Mashed Potatoes & the Baked Beans, (Ranch Style). It included 4 slices of Buttered Bread. I also added some Corn Bread.Everything was great. The BBQ Sauce was good. Not too spicy, not to sweet. The meat was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were real potatoes, not instant, the beans were really good too. Corn bread was a touch too dry, but that is my opinion. I just heated it up and added butter & honey.I dont see anything that could be improved on. Ill definitely be back again soon.

Been in Auburn for a year, and hadnt found a great authentic BBQ. Had heard about this little place through local social media. Went to a cruise night in downtown Auburn, and thought qe would try it, glad we did. I had the pulled pork, and chopped beef brisket, with BBQ beans and coleslaw for sides( two item combo plate), my wife had the pulled pork with the slaw and macaroni salad. The food was really good! And, very generous portions to boot. Our friend had the ribs, and she pronounced them delicious, meat very tender. Also came with large basket of buttered toasted rolls. I would highly recommend it, if you like real BBQ from the smoker. Small one man operation with a few tables inside, a few outside. Large parties might not have enough seating though.

As you walk to the screen door. It smells like Mamas backyard pouring out! The man can Q. Sauce is good. Hot links to yummy with some spice. Didnt care for the brisket too much only because its not my favorite, but it was tasty. Tri tip awesome. Ribs, Yes please and thank you. Beans and potato salad wont disappoint. Portions are large and satisfying. Yum Yum Yum. Already been back twice in a week.

EXCELLENT FOR CATERING SMALL OR LARGE OCCASIONS! The owner of Smokey Pit BBQ always goes above & beyond to accommodate. Theyve got excellent BBQ here, youd have trouble finding something on the menu to complain about & the prices are excellent for their quality of food. Highly recommended if you enjoy good, traditional BBQ.

Overall not bad I would go back again I gave it a three star because everything is just covered in barbecue sauce but I will say the ribs were fall off the bone and were excellent

The food here is amazing The meat on the ribs fell off the bone, the tri-tip was just bomb The pulled pork was so tasty. The potato salad was great. Everything is homemade even the barbecue sauce. We will definitely be coming back and telling all of our friends. Inside a small only three tables but he does have other tables outside.

This is a fairly small establishment. You order at the counter and then take a seat. The place sits about 20 plus a few seats outside. The staff was nice and the food was good but nothing to write home about. I ordered the 3 meat combo and it was too much food. If you dont want your meat smothered in sauce then ask for it on the side. There is only one BBQ sauce choice or ketchup. Id eat here again.

This place was not a real BQ restaurant. It was so gross ,they only had 1 kind of BQ sauce and store bought hot links and canned beans . And paid $41.00 we ended up giving to the cute Dog magnum out front our food.

This place was honestly kind of disgusting. The whole dish was smothered in a soupy concoction of tasteless barbecue sauce. The meat was mediocre at best. The sides were not bad but not great. 2/5 at best. Wouldn’t come again.

Great bbq pull pork and chicken

The meat is the perfect tenderness and smokiness. Absolutely worth the drive from Sacramento. The sides are delicious. My favorites are the potato salad and the beans. Yum!

Best ribs, tri-tip pulled pork and beans! And its across the street from Powers Mansion, an excellent place stay. We rafted the Middle Fork of Am River with H2O Adventures, stayed, at Powers Mansion and got the BBQ at Joes. A winning combination! We will certainly do this again and eat at Joes Smokey Pit BBQ! Great ribs. Dinner quantity is generous. Another nearby mainstream rib place is medium quality, high price while this place is high quality, medium price. Best ribs Ive had in a couple years. Will be back, but now know I have to come very hungry.

All around excellence. Had the beef brisket sandwich with superb smoked beef and housemade delicious coleslaw and beans. Also sampled the pulled pork with housemade BBQ sauce and it was about as good as it gets. Go there.

This is exactly what I needed after the week I had.

To be honest, it was the worst smoke house Ive ever been to. Everything was so sloppy it was like soup. We Both literally got SICK. One of us there and the other by time we got home. Now add to that the owner had no protective plastic and wore no mask. The whole thing was GROSS.

This is a one man show set in a strip mall. The meats (ribs/chicken/sausages) are wood smoked in the parking lot and are delicious. The beans, garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw are very good. Great little place.

Omg most delicious yummy food. BBQ brisket sandwiches and great side dishes . ribs, chicken, pork. Heaven on a plate. Sells 1/2 lb meat and 1 lb meat so you can do at home. I buy a pint of extra sauce for when we BBQ our own. Smokey pit is better than home made. Its a once a week lunch or dinner now. A super great meal. The owner is fabulous. Best food in Auburn.

The 3 piece dinner sampler was tasty, and generous portions for the money ($20 or so). Sauces were all good, and the meat was soft and tasty (pulled pork, brisket and sausage - skip the sausage and try the chicken). Garlic mash was not that garlicky, if thats your thing. The coleslaw was home made at least, my personal measuring stick of any BBQ place. It was warm and limp by being put in the same container as the hot food... A no no. Ask for your meats and sauces in their own to go containers, or plates, because the mix of them makes for muddled, confused flavor.

Took a chance on a google search. So happy I did.Dont be put off by the humble location and lack-luster ambiance ... seriously. Ive been coming here for many years and it never disappoints.You can watch the man smoke and prepare his meat outside in the parking lot, even in the dead heat of summer and its still worth coming to.Theres not a single bad thing on the menu, but the brisket and pulled pork are by far the best since he makes his own sauces as well!

Meat was good but sides were cold.

Chicken was moist with good smoke flavor. Other meats good but way too saucy. Brisket was chopped up too fine and drowning in sauce. Best part was that the proprietor--who is super nice guy--will deliver your BBQ to a bar a few steps down in the mall.

Great food and everything is what you want in BBQ. Tender not dried out and smoked to give it flavor with out sauce. You cant go wrong with this place. It is a hole in the wall but sometimes those are the best so if you prefer more upscale, get it to go and take home.

I had the brisket which was really delicious! I am from TX and have lived in CA for 5 years and Ive never found brisket this close to the delicious Texas brisket Im used to. I got the sauce on the side which I highly recommend everyone to do with any entree they get. Owner is very friendly. ☆☆☆☆☆

This place is truly Auburns best kept secret. The owner operator is extremely kind and talented. The BBQ COMBO is the way to go. Large portions and unique flavors make this my go to home town FAVORITE!

Nice hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint (as all BBQ should be). Service was good & fairly quick.I had the brisket with potato salad & cole slaw. The sauce didnt have a ton of kick and I wish there was some hot sauce on the table to spice it up a bit. The meat was tender and juicy. The potato salad had a distinct rosemary taste, which I liked but thats because I like rosemary.Smaller portions than most BBQ joints, but seeing as most places serve several meals disguised as one, I dont have an issue with the portions.The best part was sitting outside and watching the sunset over the town. Definitely a nice spot and I would consider returning here next time I pass through town.

All this guy needs to do to make BBQ great again in Auburn is get better meat. Great BBQ starts with great cuts of meat.Hint: Costco is the answer to that.So get on your horse and go.
