Fantastic store, with a fantastic girl behind the counter with a lot of information about books!About 4 years ago I came in not exactly knowing what I was looking for, and then I spoke to the purveyor of this establishment seated behind the counter. She pointed me towards the fantasy novels, an area I had overlooked for many years, and as I read through the backs of many colorfully worded novels I reflected back on the passion for reading I felt as a child. A sort of naive, but hopeful, innocence that felt more like home than anything I felt in the last 10 years. Again I found myself wondering what if? What if magic was real, what if adventure was the ultimate goal, what if self-expression could be felt through witnessing the exploits of another? I again found myself pouring hours into reading about Faraway lands, enchanted forests, and Grand feats of strength. I found myself enjoying something I hadnt for a long time, allowing myself to imagine, and Awakening within myself a sort of innocent beauty I thought was lost in my adult years. Without this establishment I do not believe I would be the man I am today

A great selection of books! My kids always find at least one book to take home and I have a hard time only choosing one!Also, I love that they will check on availability over the phone. Call before making what could be on online purchase and get that same day satisfaction while supporting our local businesses!

I love this place! They have such a great selection of new and used books. I can always find what I am looking for, or they have been willing to order and help when I cant find it. They are super friendly but give you plenty of space to be with the books :) such a great local spot!

Ask my husband, whenever we are out and about exploring a new city and I see a book store its like suddenly weve encountered the worlds largest magnet. He entertains my obsession but not without a little heckling. Anyway, my point is, this is one of the best book stores Ive been in! Its not too small or too large, they utilize the amount of space with such efficiency that the selection of books is seemingly more vast than physically possible, the lighting is inviting, prices are good, the location is great. A big part of reading for me is how it makes me feel which applies to bookstores as well. And this bookstore makes me feel warm, cozy and like possibilities for imminent adventure are endlessly at my fingertips.

I read hundreds of books a year. They have a good selection and good prices and they are close to home. I love going here but it can be dangerous for my wallet.

The best big little book store in the county! For its size, an amazing collection. Some new books too! The owner is very pleasant and its right in the heart of the Atascadero Arts District, near Socrates Coffee House and Hotel Carlton. Spend an afternoon!

Great local used books at super affordable prices.

The Book Odyssey is a great little used book store with an outstanding selection for a store its size. Their sci-fi / fantasy and YA sections are particularly good. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable. A must-visit for book lovers in SLO County.

Go somewhere else, we could hear them microwaving our meal and it was super overpriced, beef was lukewarm no flavor. Super disappointed 🙁what a waste of time and money.

The son of the owner of Phoenix Books in downtown SLO (still good, but disorganized) has opened a new bookstore In Atascadero, next to FIG (which is hands down the best food around, granted with not much serious competition, sigh).Nice place, good people, nice selection, fair prices, good trade credit....
