Once they had our money, they were not to be found. Still waiting 3 years for window screens that were missing. Won’t return a call. From the beginning, John kept saying, “all is wonderful”. No it wasn’t. When we moved in, the kitchen sink had no water flow; the jets on the jacuzzi tub didn’t work; and 3 electrical outlets didn’t work. I had to fix those issues myself. I waited 3 years to post a review because I was giving them time to provide my screens. Time’s up. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone!

We had a modular house put on our property by Home Crafters of NC. John was with us from the beginning to the completion. All the work done on the house was done well. The subcontractors did excellent work and in a timely manner. John made sure that the steps to get in the house were low at one of the doors That was very important to us. We enjoyed working with John and Jerome as our house was being done. All questions and calls were answered quickly. Terry who sold the house to us included some things that we would not have thought of and are glad she suggested them for us.

We had a great experience with Home Crafters of WNC! From beginning to end Terri kept things clear and easy. Calls were always answered! And John! First of all how can you not like John! He made the set up and inspections run smooth! There are always things that may not go as planned or arrive when expected. But in this time of uncertainty and unexpected closures of vendors and supply companies Terri and John made it happen! We are very happy and LOVE our new home!

We recently had a modular home installed on our property for my parents. John and Terri were very helpful in designing a home for my parents. John was diligent in making sure that there was an entry that only had a couple of steps. The subcontractors were all very professional and prompt. We appreciated the many hours that Jerome and John were on site making sure that things got done. Anytime there was a hiccup or a delay, John was very responsive in working to get the problem corrected.

Buyer beware. This company, especially Terri, was a complete nightmare. She had a great sales pitch but the moment that contract is signed nothing but delays, excuses, lies, being ignored, unprofessional attitude and a flat out horrible experience. We closed 11 months after the date on the contract and not one step of the whole first home buying experience was positive. I am working on a more detailed review with our whole story and evidence of the horrible customer service we received but I just wanted to at least say something now and hopefully save at least one person from having to go through the heartache and emotions we did. Just a warning if its too late, document everything. Save emails, texts and record anything she says because I guarantee you will need to go back to it at some point. And make sure if you are owed money at closing you get proof of an amount because she only pays back what she believes is fair and not actually accurate. She states her customers are not obligated to have receipts and said we had unrealistic expectations on what was fair or true in her building timeline.

So far a total nightmare! We have been giving John and Terri the benefit of being patient with them but now absolutely ZERO work has been done on two homes they were responsible for on family property since January and its now early JUNE!. That is 5 months! Completion date was supposed to be last November. Nothing but excuses and BS. Slick sales pitch that they just cant follow through on. It has been a very unpleasant experience with no light at the end of the tunnel. A sad way to start a dream home project. Should have read reviews before getting involved with this business. I will update if they ever execute their responsibilities to complete these two homes. Please do your research in advance. Embarrassed we didnt.

I have absolutely loved working with Terri and John. The process of designing our home and getting creative with the land space that we had was perfect with them because they have so much extensive knowledge and experience. We also absolutely love our modular home with the better construction of 2 x 6 and highest rated insulation. The home is super warm, energy-efficient, and quiet. And totally beautiful! We couldn’t be happier! I would highly recommend them!

I ❤️❤️❤️ THESE GUYS!! I came to Homecrafters with a pretty low budget (especially for the Asheville area), expecting them to laugh me out the door. Much to my surprise, John and Terri took me seriously and worked with me to find a piece of land and a modular that would meet my needs. John and I spent hours together looking at pieces of land to find one truly suitable. Terri bent over backwards to help me build out a home that I would be happy in, not just a home that was barely sufficient. We ran into a few issues dealing with the USDA, but we were able to successfully work through them together. They invited me to come to watch the placement of a new home to see the process of how it gets placed on the foundation and put together. It was an awesome experience and very helpful for me. Terri was always quick to respond to my calls and texts, and anytime I stopped by, she would find a way to gracefully step away from what she was doing to answer a quick question me. When choosing the final details of the home, both Terri and John spent nearly half a day with me to finalize everything. I have referred dozens of people to them and would personally use them again in a heartbeat.

We started our building process in September of 2018. After a terribly wet winter we finally moved into our house in May, 2019. The process took much longer than we expected. However, most of the delay was due to weather.I can’t say enough positive things about John and the crew of contractors he works with. The local plumber, electrician, and construction crew were wonderful. They completed their work in a timely manner, were very professional, clean and friendly. I would not hesitate recommending their work to anyone. The finished product wasn’t without challenges or issues though. We had problems with the sewer and some cosmetic issues inside the house. John worked hard with his local plumber to remedy the situation with the sewer system. The plumber, Randy, went above and beyond to make sure everything worked well for us. The carpet was poorly installed and John/Teri made sure it was replaced and installed to our expectations. Jerome, an overall “doer of all things” was such a joy to work with (and a wonderful musician to boot!)Overall, I am very happy with our new home. John and Teri have been responsive to all our requests. This is not a fast process. Lots of patience needed and like someone else said, “a big bucket of grace”.

Our journey with Home Crafters of Western NC began July 2019 .We called inquiring about their Modular Homes and spoke to Terri Davis.Terri was exceptional in her service to us , answering many questions through email and by phone. She was caring and professional throughout our process and very patient as well.It was a blessing to move in to and our dream home. We are very happy with the quality of home that was built for us. The modular home was not something we were very familiar with at first but as we researched we found it to be a very sensible and budget-friendly way to build our dream home. Our journey was not without big challenges though. We went through a record rainfall that has not been seen in the history of our area. This had some delay that impacted the process of building our porch, deck , garage and septic system. We say all this to encourage you to have plenty of patience and a full “grace” bucket because this is real life and real craftsman who will do exceptional work to complete all that needs to be done to make your home all that you hoped it would be.A very special thank you to the great contractors for bearing up under all the bad weather delays to get us to the finish line. Your contractors are true craftsman and it was amazing to watch the start to finish work, building a high quality porch, deck and garage! And John Guilyard, thank you for pulling it all together, the man with the plan. We realized that we don’t realize what all goes on behind the scenes in the building process. From the long waits and battles in the permit office to lining up contractors, to handing over the keys at the end of the journey, we thank you for all your patience and hard work for everything in-between.So there you have it.. A job beyond well done.Thank you, Home Crafters of Western Carolina. You have made my family happy and we will refer you to our friends and family.

We have been in our house for a little over a month. We are very happy with our service with Home Crafters. We did a lot of research with builders and spent a lot of time going over what we wanted with Home Crafters once we decided to give them a chance to see what they offer. Terri and her staff were helpful in advising the type of house for the plot of land we had purchased. They helped us with decisions concerning interior design and explained the differences in what we were consideringAs far as the build process goes, John was great. We asked a lot of him and he delivered. He helped guide us with the placement of the house and position. John never made the decisions for us, just gave us his input on the options and advised us on what might work best. Dennis was our grader and he did a great job. He worked hard every day he was out on our land. One piece of advice, plan your build in the spring to summer season. Western North Carolina mountain weather is unpredictable at times. November to December are tough, especially this year due to the extreme fluctuation in temperatures. All in all, we are happy with our house and the service. We would recommend Home Crafters of Western Carolina to anyone who is looking for a custom builder that will work with your vision.

OMG! I just found out Homecrafters is suing me. I previously got a loan through Cornerstone mortgage their preferred lending company. Everything was great until this Covid 19 epidemic happened. I lost my job and you guessed it Cornerstone dropped my home loan in the middle of the process. Im not upset about that cause well it makes sense even after pleading with them. My down payment is supposed to be refunded to almost the full amount minus a few expenses. Well I figured I was okay because Home Crafters was taking so long to start setting my modular anyway. All that was built was a foundation so far and that took them 6 months to get completed. When I called Terri she assured me that we could come to a agreement on how to proceed. The home was paid for by her lender and still waiting to be delivered from the factory. She lied to me telling me this all would be resolved rationally and she would work with me and Cornerstone. She told me to apply for a new loan in a couple months or ask relatives for a loan. I received a certified letter today saying Im getting sued for breach of contract. Im expected to pay the cost of the home that I will never get to live in plus expenses like the foundation and time invested a total sum of $300,000. I cant believe it, this wasnt my fault I didnt want to lose my job and my dream of building a home. How can they expect me to pay for all this? Such a horrible company. Please Jesus help me. I have three kids that depends on me.

Being a man, I dont know anything about which colors go with which. Terri was there to guide me throughout the entire process and John was there to make sure everything turned out perfect once the house was delivered. This has been the most horrifying experience. My husband and I have been waiting to write our review in hopes they would pull through on their end. We closed on our home 15 months ago. Since then, we have had our carpets repaired which initially looked like it was the guys first ever carpet job. We have about 15 other pretty significant list items that havent even been addressed. Our doors dont close properly and need to be replaced, our laminate needs to be replaced, soft spots are coming though in our bathrooms, we have several windows that do not open and need to be replaced, missing pieces of siding. The crew that finished the house spackled and painted all over our cabinets. We have sent numerous emails with little response. They brought flooring to our house and left it on our front porch for 3 months before we asked what was being done with it. My husband had to store the flooring in his building for months before someone finally came and fixed some of it.As of right now, out home is not complete and we should be enjoying our nice new home but instead we are having to pursue legal action. Its ridiculous and I suggest you have a good lawyer before you sign and contracts with them. On second thought, just dont even use this company. If I could give zero stars I would.

I wouldnt say I had the worst experience, but I wouldnt say it was a pleasant experience. I still had things that werent fixed in my home even though I submitted them before the end of the warranty. We had many, many problems including a miscommunication of what we wanted for exterior framing that could not be corrected after the house was set. They did however offer us some thing to try to right the wrong. We had everything from minor trim issues to mold and water damage. Timing of these issues being fixed was also a problem as sometimes it took weeks and on one occasion months to fix things. My recommendation if you decide to go with Homecrafters is to be sure to document and take pictures of everything. Communicate through email to have electronic records, just in case they are needed for court purposes. Make sure you have copies of any documents and notes during the planning period. Have a lawyer go through the contract before you sign as there is really no protection for the buyer. Do not close until the house is completed, and move in ready. They are nice people but I dont believe they are large enough handle the number of homes they are trying to do. In the end I have a home, and even though I have had to go through and fix and redo many things that were supposedly completed or fixed, I have a home to raise my kids in and we are somewhat happy now.

The best advice I could give you, if you choose to go with HomeCrafters is, take pictures, write down everything, and seek a lawyer. If they use Ricky as your grader, don’t do it! Two weeks after we moved in our septic tank came uncovered and was leaking, which you can still see a corner of it. 4-5 times this year alone the driveway had to be repaired. We still have standing water around the house when it rains. Since November 23rd they have known about cracks in the foundation that has yet to be fixed. We heard a lot of excuses why it hasn’t been done. (No workers to do it, their backed up, there’s no money in the budget to fix it, someone should get out there is a few days.) Which my lawyer said they would most likely push out any repairs to your anniversary date so they won’t have to fix them. We had 3 other graders come out and look at our land and all have said the same thing. Not graded right, the trees that weren’t taking down, the roots will grow into our septic tank, and all quoted us $5000-$6000 to have it done right. But hey, our loss is their gain!! We even paid to have a structure engineer come look at the foundation just to make sure there was no issue with the foundation, cause let’s face it, if it has taken 4-5 times to fix the grading, can you really trust the foundation was done right?!?This wasn’t my first review. I posted one back in November when we had some issues flooring coming up, crown molding coming down, grading issues (again), and not getting a final walk through after being in the house 5 months. Within minutes of posting Teri called to fix those issues and asked if we would take down the review once those things were fixed, so we did. That might be a reason you won’t find many negative reviews on this company.

We purchased our home 15 months ago from John and Terri and I cannot stress enough that it has been the worst experience we could have imagined. One year later our house is still a construction zone and has been left that way by Home Crafters for months. We are still waiting for things to be fixed that were pointed out on our walkthrough before closing - 15 months ago. Our floors had to be replaced because they were peeling up, Home Crafters installed part of them and left us with unfinished floors for 4 months with no communication regarding when they will come back to finish. We are still waiting. Its been one problem after another since day one, and even worse since we moved in... dented appliances, windows that arent square and therefore dont open or close properly, siding dented and missing, leaks in our roof (resulting in serious water damage in multiple rooms), holes in the exposed foundation, and cabinets ruined by installers, just to name a few. We just want to be able to enjoy our home and instead, it has been 15 months of emailing and texting Terri, begging to get these things fixed. Terri rarely, if ever, responds.I honestly have no idea how they have any positive reviews and 100% agree with every negative review on here as we have dealt with all the same issues they have mentioned. If you do decide to use Home Crafters, the best advice I can give you is to get everything in writing because in our experience, you will need it.

We’ve researched for about 3 years until we finally decided on building with Home Crafters of WNC. Other companies sell you the house project but hand it off to the builder, where a lot of information is lost or miss-communicated. What I liked about Home Crafters of WNC is that they handle everything. They help you choose the right house, make the changes you want, and then they’ll build it for you. The designer and builder are the owners of the company, so they do make sure that their customers are happy. John and Terri went above and beyond for us. Communication was excellent. This is our first house, and I’m glad I chose them for the build. The process was fairly smooth and calm. Are there hiccups? Sure! It’s construction! But patience and communication will go a long way. If there was something I needed changed or fixed, I let them know and they took care of it right away. If I could do it all over again, I’d still choose them.

Terri looked at several floor plans with us, and then happily worked with us when my wife mixed multiple plans together to make our dream house! My wife & I had countless changes, re-works, new ideas, ‘Hey, can we do this :) phone calls, a few ‘I changed my mind’ phone calls…Terri rolled with the punches and let us plan our home exactly to our specifications. John took us to see some homes in the process of being built so we had an idea of the details & quality, which was marvelous!! When it came time to deliver the home, John was there to make sure everything went smoothly, and we’ve talked to him every day since. Any slight hiccups along the way (FYI: building a home is a huge project, you’re going to have some!) were swiftly taken care of, and we are not left wanting anything at all! Homecrafters finished our house almost a year ago. I waited to write a review until I had time for everything to settle and it become our home. I am very happy with both the quality and value. What impresses me the most about John and Terri is they are true advocates for the homebuyer as they mediate between the factory and the client. They work for the customer and do not appear to make an extra buck by making hidden deals with the manufacturer. They are honest, have integrity, and John puts his heart into making sure the customer is happy when things are coming to a close. We interviewed many modular and traditional contractors and chose homecrafters because one: the price per square foot wasnt ridiculous and two: they were the only modular company that worked with us in creating a completely custom modular home as we just did not like most of the cookie cutter plans the factory produces. This took a lot of extra work on Terris end. Also no home building project is seemless and stress free because your dealing with numerous humans, county employees, and the forces of nature. There were timeline changes, difficulty with some subcontractors, and things that were not built to plan. But everything that was wrong was fixed. Also, some things we never ordered but realized we wanted during the construction were done for us no problem. The structural aspect and insulation are solid. Through it all, even during the most stressful times of the back end construction, Johns heart of gold was evident and his word could be counted on to come through.
