Things started off great; we visited the Home Star Construction showroom (off the 101) on February 27, 2021, Brian (salesman) came on March 5th to give us an estimate and as promised, Jerry stopped by on March 6th to pick up our deposit check. This is where their accountability and our satisfaction stopped.Jerry was a no show a few times in March 2021, calls were attempted with messages left in April 2021 and no call backs received, our start date of May 10th came and went with no attempt to notify us until May 14th at 11:53 am, when a message was left on our recorder by Jerry.Message stated permit had been submitted about 2-3 weeks prior, material was arriving, they should have everything ready to start in 2-3 weeks, and he’d be calling in another few weeks with an update, but that they were still at least about 3 weeks out.Needless to say, we would find out later that everything Jerry had stated in the message were all untruths. In all actuality, the permit was not filed until May 18th (not the end of April as was stated in message), although materials started to be dropped off on June 8th, work didn’t start until June 9th. In addition, their 2-3 day project turned into a project that took 10 days of work to complete which lasted from June 9th - June 24th.During this 2+ week time line, we had so many issues; a few times we even asked the owner, Dave, to stop by to discuss. Originally, we started a ‘breach of contract’ discussion with him and knowing now what we didn’t know then, we should have stuck to that and gotten out, but we had trusted his word and agreed to stick things out. BIG MISTAKE!They sent other customer’s materials to our house (names were written on each piece) along with wrong materials and we were missing materials as well. Doors, windows, screens, roof, etc….All of which are still having issues to this day. Doors don’t close right and windows take a lot of effort and finesse to get them closed and locked.Fast forward to the night before their last day where I proceeded to tape off and place sticky notes on issues I had. These issues included yellow marks and dirt on the walls and ceilings, sticky residue on metal pieces, screens that were not flush or torn and windows that would not close properly in order to lock.Fast forward to our first big mist and light rain in August and we notice some leaking where the original house and the new sunroom meet, as well as standing water in the gutters that don’t drain properly and drip where the gutter sections meet, one of which is right above the doorway. Fast forward to October where again we have a night of heavy mist and light rain and we now have water coming inside the sunroom through the brand new ceiling fan they installed; water and electricity don’t really do well together.Unfortunately, I’m sorry to all for not writing this review earlier, but we have just continued to find things done wrong and have been trying to have others fix the issues. Needless to say, tonight and tomorrow we are expecting a lot of rain and we are very concerned with what will happen next. All I can say is I’d go without a sunroom before I’d ever have Home Star Construction install one.

If you are thinking of using Homestar Construction for your outdoor needs, I would strongly suggest you reconsider and find another company. I do not mean to imply that we are unhappy with our sunroom. However, we were given a 6-8 week timeline back in November when we signed our contract. Over the next 17 weeks, we were given one excuse after another as to why the work was not begun. No one called from Homestar to explain the delays. We always had to initiate the phone contact. Finally, when the materials arrived, two workers came for 3 days and we never saw them again. After 2 weeks of inactivity, 2 different workers came for 4 days and they too disappeared. Over this time , numerous commitments were made to us by Jerry; none ever fulfilled. Workers were scheduled to be here, promised to be here, and simply never showed up without a word from anybody. Today, Cliff was supposed to be here to water test the roof. Of course, as per usual, he never showed and no word from the company. Rescheduled for tomorrow. We will see what happens. Hopefully, our 9 month saga with Homestar will finally be at an end. Find another company!

The owner of the Arroyo Grande store told us that their windows would reduce the temperature in our home. It did not. We did not complain. The seal in the windows failed and developed condensation that does not dry out, therefore you cannot see out of them. At the time of installation in 2017, the owner guaranteed the windows to last as long as a roof. So we contacted Homestar in AG. This was over 6 months ago. They take our information, then fail to contact us. Over 6 months of stringing us along with false assurances. We agreed to their offer to replace the windows and we would pay for labor, only to be ignored again. After months of calling weekly we waited a month to hear from them. Nothing. When I resumed contacting them, I had to start over. They denied knowing anything about our job. They have asked for the contract twice. They claim difficulty getting materials yet they are taking new business. So it looks like after 4 years we are out $7,665.00.----Contacted by company, within 20 minutes of posting above review. They agreed to start process of replacing windows under warranty, on August 30th 2021, if I would take down my initial review (Posted above). I edited the review however on August 30th they did not keep their appointment nor did they even contact me to re-schedule. They have not contacted me at all since. I am left with no other choice but to find another contractor.Homestar installed a design that is specialized to their company. I have contacted numerous contractors to replace these windows. The response from all of them is that this is too specialized for them to work on. It seems that my only option is to pay a contractor to remove this specialized design and install a conventional wall with window, all at my cost!

We had HomeStar come out and remove our old wood patio cover and they installed an aluminum cover which looks very nice. The workers Johnny and Junior were very nice to work with. They make sure to clean up and leave everything nice after they are done working. They let us know exactly what they are going to do. We are very pleased with the workmanship they provided. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that the office doesn’t communicate with us very well.

Our sunroom is incredible! We got off to a very lengthy start with the permitting process but, Jerry was able to navigate the challenge. Once we got to the installation phase, the process was seamless and so exciting. Matt worked his heart out digging holes for the footings. Kinsonne, Scott, and Manuel came each day and were respectful, fun, and competent. Our home was treated with care. Our sunroom looks so much like part of the house that when people see the pictures they ask, “Where’s the sunroom?” We couldn’t possibly be happier with the final product.

October 2021 Final Update:A new revolving three-man crew arrived, along with the long-awaited sunshade materials and fixtures. In addition to installing the shade, the crew also corrected numerous roofing installation errors created during the July 2021 Homestar roof tile installation phase by a previous crew member. This last crew team also corrected flashings which the first crew installed incorrectly, and also addressed the inoperable rain gutter system installed by the immediately preceding work crew.We should note that the last team to work this project were polite, informative, and worked cooperatively on every aspect to ensure the final product was completed according to the original proposal and plan. The final cleanup of the worksite was timely as well.Project completion: 10/15/2021 (except we have not yet received the two aerosol paints which are specially formulated for the two different colored aluminum components installed by Homestar.)July 2021 Update:To Homestar: Please advise me when you expect to finish this over one year old project. We noted inoperative rain gutters during the negligible rain last week, and have seen no one from Homestar for several weeks. We still have unused and apparently unnecessary construction materials on site for months, and have not been advised when the sun/wind screen might be installed, or when the obvious construction errors will be addressed.- - -Signed Contract to build exterior patio cover in July 2020. Install began seven months later on February 10, 2021. Numerous calls between contract and start of installation were either not returned or were (and continue to be) fraught with excuses, but never satisfactorily explanatory or justified as it is always a supplier issue. The two installers essentially worked part-time for a day or two, then would not reappear for several days at a time. After about 10 days, work stopped because of an incorrect rain gutter was identified just before it would have been installed, and because we had to also inform the installers that the contract called for a faux tile roof which must be affixed before the gutter can be installed. Another month passed without a call from the contractor, so we had to restart making the calls to determine whether the contractor was going to secure the missing components and return to finish the project, or whether we should consider the project abandoned. After several more voicemail messages without reply, we now learn that another Project Manager has been hired, that roofing and rain gutter materials and stacked stone orders should all become available next week. We shall see, but we are not at all pleased with this company to date.

TOP QUALITY CUSTOM CRAFTSMANSHIP, ANDEXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICEA few months ago my aunt asked for help in designing a patio cover for a fairly expansive deck on the front of her mobile home. We wanted something that would provide much needed shade and blend in with the appearance and structure of the home. I visited with Dave at Homestar Construction’s Patio Room and Patio Cover showroom in Arroyo Grande. He spent over an hour transforming my ideas into detailed drawings, presented me with various options, and gave me an overview of the available materials to achieve the results I was looking for. The next day Gary came to the home, took measurements, provided several samples and prepared a detailed scope of work proposal. Following Gary’s visit my aunt and I visited the showroom and met with Jerry, Homestar’s Project Manager, who gave us an overview of the construction process and timeline for its completion. Gary subsequently took care of all permits and coordinated all the work on-site. The two construction workers were very efficient, worked quickly, and took great care to keep the job site clean. The job was completed in just 5 days and we are exceptionally pleased with the outcome. The color of the materials blends nicely with the home, and the customized structure enhances its overall appearance. It was a pleasure working with everyone at Homestar Construction and we highly recommend them.

Home Star provided the Design Construction and Installation of our Patio Cover approximate size was 31 x 11.Rich from the initial sales meeting thru to the completion of the project the Home Star team was rock solid. Sale with Dave, construction discussions with Jerry right on through to the installation with Hilario and Johnny the effort was truly a 5-Star adventure.Does not seem like much these days turns out as envisioned but in fact this entire project has met all expectations. We have already asked for quotes for additional work from Home Star.

Love our patio. We have had this company give us 3 bids over the past several years. Each time changing our mind and thinking we’ll wait. First we were thinking a sunroom, then just a pergola, we finally settle on a peaked roof solid patio cover. It looks great! We had 2 other bids from different companies who were a little cheaper but the quality material and warranty wasn’t there. Our general contractor who is doing work on the inside of our house was very impressed with the quality and look of this patio. He asked the name of this company so he could refer clients. The company is local and they do a great job. Dave is the owner and he was the one who gave us 2 of the 3 bids over the years! Great to work with!

Weve had our aluminum gazebo for two years now and it looks as pretty as the day it was finished. Its held up through storm, hail and practically daily gales where we live, and in the summer thats with two sail clothes flapping madly on it. Being in fire country it was a smarter option than a wooden structure and while there was a hiccup during installation the foreman was marvelous and very responsive about finishing the job professionally.

Love our new Patio! We knew we had to replace the old one and had been looking around for years at alternatives. Dave came to our house with samples and suggestions. Because the value and quality seemed to be right on, we went for it. The only hitch is that work commenced SOONER than expected (LOL), and was completed in the order and timeline detailed in advance. Jose and Johnny were the main guys working during this time. All workers were awesome, and we found all of them thoughtful, polite, respectful, answered any questions, diligent and knowledgeable about the work they were doing. When closing out, they cleaned up beautifully and verified we were A-OK. Our new LifeRoom roof and framing with lighting is perfect to beat back the murderous Paso sun and give night-time patio living a new boost. Great Job, guys!

I cant began to tell you how happy we were/are with Homestar Construction. We have a large wooden pergola and decided to replace the upper trellis with an aluminum roof. The owner/sales rep, Dave, came to our home (1 1/2 hrs travel time from Homestar) and spent the full morning analyzing and drawing up options. He brought product samples for us to see and choose. As promised, the work was ready to began in approximately 8 weeks. We were contacted a week prior to the start of this job by the foreman, Jerry, who was extremely diligent during and after the completion of this job. Also, as promised, the entire job took the amount of days they predicted with the exception of one extra day because of an added request from us. The men who took down the trellis and built the new roof, Juan and Jose, were exceptional. They were thoughtful and positive with their work and with any questions or requests from us. Not only does the final product look amazing but the crew cleaned up beautifully upon completion...something you dont see very often anymore!!! We had an additional small job after this and Jerry followed through nicely (again, as promised). He sent his handyman Cliff to do this task and to say this man did a good job is an understatement. He went beyond expectations and we are thankful for his perseverance in fixing something that was considered to be unfixable. Our thanks to Homestar Construction for the beautiful roof that you promised we would like...we love it!

Scheduled an appointment with them and Tim came out to the ranch to provide information on a trellace we wanted. He was unprepared with information and followed up with a quote before we had even chosen product. We asked that he send photos of actual installations which he responded with a look it up on line. We couldnt find any photo installations on line. Then we never heard from them again. 2 months later we have called back to complain and will see if we get a satisfactory resolution.

Worst company ever!!! Can I do one lower than 1 star? Going on 2 years now of trying to get them to make good on the contract to finalize my 82 year old mothers patio cover in terms of providing her the final permit; which she paid for and never received. City now says that the company never finalized their requests for changes and therefore it was never permitted. My siblings and I nearly made a career out of trying to get them to make it right for nearly 2 years. How do companies like this stay in business? Keep shopping around

Everyone loves our new sunroom! (The house is in Santa Maria/Orcutt)It provides what we need: more well-lit space, noise reduction from a nearby school yard, a large area to relax/entertain--or to do projects or just sip coffee. It gives the feeling of being outside while being protected from the elements of sun wind and sound. There was a lot of detail involved: Permitting, demolition of the old patio, pouring a new 15X27 slab, custom room design, new 120VAC circuits/outlets, LED lighting, ordering and assembling factory components, flashing, protection of existing irrigation and power lines, step-landings and even transplanting a camellia.Homestar handled it all and showed they are pros. We could not monitor the construction at every stage, so Jerry sent photos and texts to our smartphones, and was always responsive to our concerns.

Found this company thru our local city festival- The Lompoc Flower Festival - we scheduled a consultation with the gal working their stand at the festival - no one came or called on the date scheduled. I called the company to ask for another consultation - they came - we really liked the gentleman that came to show us their product. SUPER NICE and professional (I cant remember his name) We agreed on the product and price - paid our down payment - and when our product arrived we were excited! We were told this would be a two day - MAX- project. The worker started building - by the end of day one we only had posts and one or two headers installed - INCORRECTLY. My husband came home - (he is a general contractor/builder) he knew RIGHT away - it wasnt being built correctly. We called and tried to get ahold of someone to stop the project - we were told by Dave, the owner, that there was no way it was being built incorrect - his builders were experienced and top notch... After several days of back and forth phone calls - we finally convinced Dave to come to our home and evaluate the situation. He observed and agreed and it was ALL WRONG. The current patio had to be scrapped and new parts had to be ordered, the entire project had to be restarted. We were given a time frame and we waited. It was two weeks past the promised time frame - but the new parts FINALLY came - it was installed - and although there were slight corrections that needed to be made on the final installation - we now have a patio cover. BUT, we also have holes in our NEW concrete patio as well as our NEW hardy siding on our home from the original patio installation attempt. The project took ALOT LONGER than it should have and alot of headache - but we do have a patio cover.
