We purchased a Spectra Catalina 340c desalinator from JGordon & Company for our catamaran, we decided to do the installation ourselves and as with all custom installations the obstacles never end. Marshall at JGordon guided us through all the problems and ideas and supplied us with the materials necessary to complete the task. His help was invaluable in our progress. It was a pleasure to work with everyone involved in the project. Our thanks go to Marshall and company.

We had brought the boat up from Florida we had a Mastervolt system installed with three with lithium Ion batteries. We also had charger /inverter and separate charger for the generator starter battery and the main engine starter. We had trouble when we got to Virginia and needed help immediately they were extremely busy but they did fit Us in and they did a superlative job. It was worth the time waiting they communicate clearly and Marshall who runs a place seems to be absolutely top-notch at what he does, the technician they sent out Mike, was absolutely superb looked at the situation verified what were not what was not up to ABYC or Mastervolt standards and made those corrections. We are confidently cruising now after losing a little bit of time. It is a job well done to high standards, I am extremely pleased.Captain Richard L. HughesUSCG Licensed Master

Marshall and his team are an example of what all marine contractors should be like. They are clear in their communications, trustworthy and look out for the boat owners best interests...

This is one of the finest boat service companies in the area! Really knowledgeable owner and staff, efficient and thorough! Pricing is very fair and they are pretty fast to get the work done. Theyve done a variety of work for me over the past 5 years and Im always happy with them.

Although not entirely happy with the lack of communication from Anthony and Marshal I would like to commend the marine electrician Rick Ferguson for the outstanding job he did while on my boat. Not only did Rick crawl through every nook and cranny to check out the Generator and AC system on my boat he gave me some wonderful advice on other issues and helped me get to the location of the wiper motors that were non operational. J Gordon is a lucky company to have Rick as a resource, he really has an incredible amount of experience and is a really great guy. Really wish that Anthony and Marshal made an effort to talk to the customer when things dont go as planned.

Great service - Good advice; Folks here are honest. They embody what one hopes to find in a local business. We have been customers for 15 years, an array of boats. We have made substantial upgrades to our electronics system in our most recent boat - this year - and have gotten thoughtful guidance, quality products, and excellent installation. A++ Repairs, general maintenance, upgrade -- this is the place to go!

J Gordon has been a terrific resource for me. As a new owner and part-time liveaboard on a 2012 Beneteau 37, I really needed a one stop shop to help me with the many maintenance and repair issues I regularly deal with. The owner, Marshall, is very knowledgeable and so helpful and kind. His technicians and staff are wonderful to work with, too. Over the last year they’ve installed a diesel heater and a water filtration system, dealt with my numerous Cruisair A/C issues, Vacuflush problems, a clogged sink, a diamond earring that got lodged under a bunk, electrical failures, gelcoat repairs, and water intrusion. All competently and quickly handled at a very reasonable cost.

Today I find myself in my sailboat refilling my Ritchie compass with mineral oil. Why? Because of the poor service and communication of J Gordon & Company.I had a bubble in my compass. Being one to trust experts, I dropped it off with the folks at J Gordon the weekend of the boat show. We were not planning on departing south for six more weeks so figured they would have plenty of time to take care of it. To make it easy, I even taped my business card right to the compass to avoid confusion. In order to get any update at all on the request, I had to call them each week for two weeks until I was able to speak with Dave, the service manager. He quoted $75 for the service to get rid of the bubble. I gave him the go ahead. Then a week passed. Then I called again. This time, I was quoted $350. I assumed that was a reasonable price, so approved the work over the phone after being told that a new compass costs over $800 (not true). Then heard nothing for two more weeks. Now at four weeks from the hand off, I call again. I was then told it would be done that afternoon. It was clear that nothing had been done and my call had prompted action. After this month of poor service, I requested to have my compass returned to the same state it was when I handed it over so I can pick it up and do it myself. With a grunt, Dave agreed.Upon picking up my compass, I realized it had been emptied of all its fluid. Nobody gave any explanation or apology to explain anything so I just quietly walked out the door with my now empty compass.Considering how simple this job was, I can only imagine the incompetence that would be present upon increased complexity. Radar? GPS? Not quite. They clearly need to figure how to deal effectively with the trusty old compass. This should have been an easy money home run for these guys, but they proved to fumble at every opportunity.

My husband contacted J Gordon & Co after trying to reach MasterVolt for technical support on settings for a ChargeMaster charger when installing lithium batteries on a boat. He first talked to Dave, the Service Manager, who indicated he wasnt an expert on setting the ChargeMaster. Rick then got on the line and stated he could not help us for two reasons: First was because he wasnt getting anything out of helping us and second was because giving us guidance on setting the ChargeMaster would cause liability issues. He then told my husband that the charger wasnt compatible with lithium batteries without knowing what model we have. MasterVolt has them listed as one of the places to contact for technical support, yet they arent willing to provide technical support unless theyre getting paid for it.
