Extremely BAD service from Fawcetts Outboard Service Team, specifically Geoff Scoggins! Do NOT take your outboard to be serviced here. They had our outboard from Oct 2020 to Jun 2021, we had to take it in pieces in a box!! We dropped off our 2016 Yamaha 20hp outboard for service in October 2020. It was difficult starting, as we had to pull it 20 times or so to get it to fire up. Dropped it off with Fawcetts Service Team and were advised they were busy but would work on it. We advised no problem, but would like it fixed by February as we were going on an extended trip. On 16Jan21, Geoff advised that it was a compression issue and cost approx. 1K to fix, we gave the go ahead to fix it. On 06Feb21, we checked the status and were advised our outboard is in their queue for service. They were waiting on some parts, which found out later was the head. Numerous attempts at checking on the status via email, texts, phone calls were done in vain. Geoff finally advised on 30May21 that parts were on order, after we left a message (since they RARELY answer the phone) that we were picking it up this week, no matter what. Today, 03Jun21, we drove to Fawcetts from PA and spoke to Geoff. Our outboard STILL was NOT fixed and was in pieces. We were already in to approx. $1400.00 for a head, but they didn’t order the head bolts and they were now backordered till 31Jul21. We questioned him as to WHY the bolts weren’t ordered along with the head, he couldn’t even look us in the eye, but admitted that they missed doing the same. He kept saying they were backordered thru two different sources, but would not be expected until July. Obviously the ball was dropped NUMEROUS times here. WHY couldn’t he get back to us after we attempted to find out what was going on? WHY weren’t the bolts ordered before April (which is when it was done)? WHY couldn’t he look us in the eye and speak to us professionally? And WHY didn’t he even have the courtesy to apologize to us for the shoddy service? NEVER have we ever had trouble with such lack of customer service!! NEVER will we do business with a company like this.

DO NOT REPOWER HERE - incompetant and unqualified. I repowered july 1 - 2 months later still do not have the correct prop. Missing bolts, loose nuts, cables and a sensor issue. They did not have a yamaha computer and gave me the run around .... Tri state marine will preform my work from now on

Update 9/18/2020I went back today and as I understand the person I had the unpleasant experience with was the manager who is no longer there. Gawlen, the new manager, was EXCEPTIONAL and I could not have been treated better or been more pleased. It was almost like Id walked into a parallel shop which was running smooth and slick as it should be. Everyone I spoke to was knowledgeable and pleasant and kudos also to Cathy for assisting me with rainwear and boots. As a result of my experience today and anticipation of a future relationship with the store, I am changing my rating now to 5. Thank you again Gawlen and Cathy for your help today!----(Date: Approximately mid-August)I gave it a two ONLY due to large selection of parts and accessories but the older guy at the counter was subpar while the kid who tried to help and was doing the work in the store was nice. I drove out of to go here (and past a West Marine) this past Wednesday 8/5 because this place was recommended by the people I bought my sailboat from recently and I needed some new batteries. When I walked in the older gentleman behind the counter didnt seem very friendly or greeted me but not a huge deal. It WAS noticeable though. So I looked around for a while and saw a few but never having been here thought maybe they kept them someplace else so I went back to the front and politely asked the guy about some batteries. He wasnt doing anything but standing there so I didnt interrupt and was courteous but he breathed a heavy sigh like my asking was too must much for him and passed me off to a kid who went back to the back and showed that the 3 batteries in stock were all they had but that they could order them. I didnt have time to wait for them to be ordered and then go back and by that time the way the old guy at the front had reacted to me was really irritating. So I thanked the younger one, left, and went to the West Marine down the street that had the batteries in stock and were actually nicer than this guy at Fawcetts. Then something was wrong with the roads and it took me almost 1 hour to get back to Mayo where my boat is. (and a West Marine is btw)Selection or not, if they have more like the guy at the counter I dont ever plan to go back to Fawcetts and would discourage others from doing the same. I give people the benefit of the doubt usually but he was ridiculous and the energy spent dealing with it and the drive was too much.

Tried another well-known store (part of a chain) because it was closer to home. Wasted trip-- some boating supplies, but an emphasis on selling fashion, and a truly clueless staff. (Do you want, like, an actual bolt, with a nut? Cause Ive got screws.) Then I remembered going to Fawcett with my dad. Theyve moved since way back then, but I got the same experience my dad did-- everything I needed, including knowledgeable staff who actually wanted to help me. (Yes, of course we have silicon bronze bolts. Let me get that for you. Youll want a washer to go with it-- lock or fender? For the application you described, varnish would probably be better than polyurethane. Heres why...) Wound up buying more things there than I planned, but I dont regret a dime of it. And Ill be back.

The staff at Fawcetts is superb. Today, I went in for West System epoxy, and an staff member named Ivan was incredibly helpful. He took a lot of time to explain all about resin and cloth and advised me on how to use them in the job I am doing. I have been in a lot of boat stores, but I cant think of another where the staff is so well informed.

A mainstay of Annapolis yachts supply and parts. When boating, it is assured that you will break something... It is the nature of boats. It is a comfort to know that a well provisioned ships chandler is nearby to purchase the parts needed to fix the broken item and ready the yacht for the next trip.

How could we give them any less than 5 stars? they have all the weird stuff that us boaters really need. Along with being my supplier for all my boating needs this is a great shop to find gifts for the people who are important but impossible to shop for. as much as I can i try to patronize this buisness. As a charter captain and owner of several boats myself I have always been happy with the service, products, and guidance/advice I get inside these doors. -- Captain Brian Mayer ( Marauder Charters )

Fawcetts Yamaha Service handled a Yamaha Extended Service (warranty) claim to replace a failed started on a 2013 F250 Outboard engine. The repair was completed quickly/professionally, and Fawcetts went straight to Yamaha for recovering expenses. I would have thought that I would have had to make initial payment before Yamaha reimbursed the expenses. However, that was not the case and Fawcetts made resolving the mechanical issue extremely easy.

Whenever I need marine supplies, I first turn to Fawcetts. They have, bar none, the most complete inventory of marine-quality hardware (screws, bolts, nuts, washers, etc) of any place in the greater DC area. Add this to the other aisles stocked with electrical components, paint, fiberglass repair, man overboard systems, etc. and you have a well-stocked store. The store employees are extremely knowledgeable; I generally just go to the front counter and ask the attendant for what i want and they personally guide me to the correct aisle. It can be tough to find things in a store filled with hundreds of items. Add in the free seminars held each Tuesday/Thursday during the winter on some aspect of boating/sailing, and you have a complete marine store, with prices generally below that of West Marine. They get my vote.

Review №49

Unlike West Marine, Fawcetts is staffed by real boaters who are knowledgeable about what boaters need. Fawcetts is a real marine chandlery; the contrast with other stores which sell mostly clothing, Styrofoam coolers, etc, is dramatic. We are fortunate in Annapolis in that we have TWO locally owned chandleries, but the other one, which has a huge inventory of used sails and equipment, does not have nearly the range of new items that Fawcetts do. In most marine stores, I (sadly) know more than the people waiting on me, and the gaps in my knowledge are wide. That is not the case at Fawcetts. It is worth it to shop at a locally owned business of this quality, and we are fortunate to have them here.

Great selection - but they make doing business with them REALLY difficult! From the website pyacht - which is one of the least user-friendly websites I have seen in the last years, to accounting mistakes (which then the customer has to proof to them), it is again and again: not easy, and while I love to support locally owned stores, I cringe every time thinking about buying something here.
