Its rare to find a camera store these days, and its extremely rare for that camera store to be worth even entering the front door. This camera store had everything you would need and a ton of stuff you didnt even know you needed. The staff was very helpful and it was easy to find what I was looking for since the store was organized perfectly. I will be back!
Went in to get my Camera sensor cleaned. They charge $50 if the sensor cleaning kit is required. You can also buy one for the same price, but being such a sensitive spot I opted for the experts to clean it. I didn’t catch his name, but the gentleman with glasses was very helpful and accommodating. Would return. Great little shop.
I needed to get a telephoto lens for a couple of wildlife tours I was going to do in Kenai Peninsula. I called to inquire and Bill gave excellent advice on buying/renting. The lens he recommended worked out really well. I got great wildlife and landscape pictures and the rental price was very reasonable. Excellent customer service and large selection of cameras/lenses. Highly recommend it!
I have a very nice experience renting lens from them. I initially booked a lens not compatible with my camera. They were kind to switch to a better lens with same price. 📝𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆 check the equipment before signing! Ending up paying for a missing lens hood I never received.😅The online rental reservation did not say it came with a lens hood. (It very clearly states which lenses natively come with a hood lens.)I did not ask/or request a lens hood as lens flare was not going to be an issue. After the staff explained the process to me I believe the young gentleman just made a simple error; checked the wrong box on accident, it happens we all make mistakes, heck I did by not double checking the lens bag and contract/invoice before I signed the dotted line and left the store.🤔If such an error then why rate 5 stars?!?⭐Well everything else was ✨perfect✨.⭐The rental price was amazing.⭐The equipment was in pristine condition.⭐The staff greeted me upon entry and was quick to help out. The older staff there was super helpful in answering questions, making suggestions, etc. The young gentleman that helped me outjust seemed a bit nervous/shy. New hire jitters? (I get it)⭐I got a call back today and they said they tried reviewing security footage and the angle couldnt determine if a hood lens was attached at the time of being packed or not and they dont record audio so they cant confirm if I asked for a lens hood or not, but at least they looked!😄That was generous of them as I didnt ask them to do so; I was willing to pay for this elusive lens hood because ultimately we were able to capture memories to last a life time for 𝙬𝙖𝙖𝙖𝙖𝙮 cheaper than other options (even including this additional payment on top of the original rental was/is still 𝗳𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗮𝗿 cheaper than other options I almost went with! It’s a neat little store with all sorts of camera accessories. When you walk in, you can see it has a long history but what turned me off was this teenager male cashier. He was unmotivated to help anyone.The other older man that was here weeks ago , he was much more friendlier and helpful. It’s a mix feeling.
I attended a photography class here and It was very informative. Anytime Im looking for something in shop the staff is very friendly and knowledgable. I love the rental program. Its not very costly to rent and its better than buying something not liking it and having to return it. I definitely recommend this shop over a big box store for your photography needs
They carry many many rental items which I’ve rented on multiple occasions. Friendly staff, and they carry many products for sale for many camera brands. If they don’t have it, they can order it.

I totally trust and love this camera shop! Customer service is amazing. An employee that works there stayed after work for almost an hour to help me with an issue that came up while I was purchasing some photography gear. This was just one instance of their excellent customer service. The shop is very classy and I highly recommend it for purchasing or renting photography gear.

Really kind staff, I don’t know the guys name but the one guy who’s really knowledgeable about film is a really cool guy. Everyone there is super knowledgeable about the sort of equipment they have and I’m happy to support local businesses like them and buy film from them. The turn around time for black and white film development is a little longer than what I would consider ideal (about two weeks) but overall I’m very happy to have a camera store like this in anchorage
I recently purchased my Nikon D850 at Stewarts, and it was a great experience. Bill was fantastic to work with, and insured any questions I had were answered. They have a large selection of camera bags, and awesome accessories. Its a photographers candy store, and youll find whatever you need at a fair price. I will continue to support this local business from now on, and you should too, you wont be disappointed!
I have used Stuarts for lens rentals in the past and have just purchased a camera from them. I always receive exceptional service. I travel around a lot and this is one of the best camera shops I have visited from a customer service standpoint. I will continue to shop there and recommend them to anyone in town or visiting.

I had done some reading, they helped clarify, and patiently explained the basics to me.They kept me within my budget and got me a camera beyond my abilities, but one I can grow into. I went with a friend who had rented lighting equipment. He was the only black person in the store. Oddly enough no one asked him if he needed any help. They asked everyone else in the store.....except for him. The younger kid working helped us out eventually, but damn if we werent invisible to the other guy.

Had a very short stop in Anchorage and contacted this store before I came to check and see if they had the Fujifilm camera that I wanted.They did not have it in store but ordered it for me and kept in touch the whole time, letting me know what the status was. I found that very personal and nice. They even asked if I wanted them to charge the camera before I came because they knew I was in a hurry. NICE.When I came to the store the camera was waiting for me at the register and they helped me a lot with accessories.Besides all the great service I got from the staff in this store, I have to say that I also loved this shop because there was no one trying to sell me things constantly. If I asked, I got really good service and they knew everything, but they were there to help me as much as they could more than trying to sell me as much as they could.Recommend for everyone. Will be back.
Nice little shop with a pretty good selection of new and used material to look at. Staff was kind of doing there own thing and was kind of slow to offer help, as they were eating and surfing the web. If you are a visitor to the area as I was and are in need of something it was a decent option to check this place out.
This is a first rate camera store that has just about every lens and camera body you could want and youre free to try them out. I was like a kid in a candy store. They even have hard to find gear. I bought a remote for my Sony camera that was backordered on B&H and Amazon. Stewarts had it. The staff is friendly and the shop is gorgeous. I reckon when people come to Alaska they want good gear. Also, theres no sales tax in Anchorage. They also have a nice selection of camera bags and tripods. Prices seem to match B&H.Highly recommended.

I went down to Stewarts photo to learn about my Lumix Camera. the clerk there was very helpful explained my whole camera menu to me I couldnt be happier I will definitely go down there again when I need photo supplies or a new camera. I received excellent customer service from Stewarts, in fact, I would say it was beyond excellent. I live in Kodiak and frequently have to order equipment online. On a recent trip into Anchorage, we stopped by Stewarts to test camera bags. Our salesperson Joe, was outstanding. I asked every question not only about bags but tripods, lenses, protective gear, lighting-- you name it, I asked. He was extremely patient and knowledgeable, I left feeling more than satisfied with my shopping experience. Afterwards, I needed to make an exchange. Without question or aggravation, Brian researched the specialty item I requested, ordered the new equipment and had it shipped to my door. They both went out of their way to make me happy. That, coupled with their extensive knowledge is invaluable to me as a consumer. Also, generally speaking I dont believe their prices are more expensive than other online retailers-- especially when most online retailers charge extra $$ for shipping to Alaska.
I have been using Stewarts Photo Shop since I started photography in my teens. Even with large box stores coming and going, they have remained an essential part of the Alaskan community. From my high school days renting equipment, my collage days developing my own film, and now onto my profession as a photographer, they have had what I needed. A recent visit prompted my review as the store Manager Brian W. was more than helpful to assist me in my need of some new gear. The store was clean, bright, full of new toys to choose from, and very busy. Even though my requests were minor, I had his full attention and he assisted me with out question. I will continue to shop Stewarts as they almost always have what I need.

Great customer service. Im a novice. Went in today for a tripod and the associate was very helpful in helping me select one for my needs. Ive been in 3 times and have had positive experience each visit.
They cleaned my sensor no appointment needed, they had a third party charger so I could replace the one I lost and had a lot of accessories that I was looking for. To make it better they were open on Sunday.
I called to ask a question and the guy acted like he couldnt be bothered with me (or anyone). So, Ill take my business elsewhere.

Ive been coming to Stewarts Photo ever since I took a photo class in Junior High. Ive always appreciated how knowledgeable the staff is. Its crazy that some other places in town hire someone to sell cameras who dont even know about aperture or f-stop! Anyways, Im writing this review because Ive been really impressed with the new management. Theyve really fixed up the store (for a while it felt like a bit of a time machine trip)... and now it looks really good. Thanks!
Stewarts Photo is the best photography shop in Anchorage. Their staff are knowledgeable (professional-level photographers), helpful, and friendly. Prices are reasonable. They carry a wide range of consumer, prosumer, and professional cameras and lenses. They also have many professional lighting accessories and modifiers. I have bought several lenses, bodies, and accessories from them and am a happy customer.
Ive been coming to Stewarts Photo for many years (late 60s).Im very pleased to see that they have taken the time and money to re-store the Shop to its old glory. The old sign out side (one of only a few still in Anchorage) is now lit again after many years of being broken and Ive been told that this summer it will be re-painted. The inside has been returned to what it looked like in the old days,very pleasing to see! I often send people to Stewarts so they can see what one of Anchorages old buildings still looks like.The old photos taken by the Stewarts hanging on the walls is a must see when in Anchorage.As a film photographer I buy my film and darkroom supplies from Stewarts.They keep a top line darkroom section very well supplied, and if they dont have something I need I just ask and they get it for me.Keep up the good work at Stewarts and Im looking forward to the complete shop restoration!
Stewarts photo shop is a totally awesome place. Great costumer service and were very friendly to me. Although they didnt have what I was looking for at the moment, they provided me with information about my camera and where I could get the part I need. I recommend this shop to anyone who like photography.

Stewarts is the ONLY place for photographers, no matter your skill level. With a rental program, you can try it before you buy it! The staff are all quite helpful and knowledgeable! Wish they had one in Arizona!
New and used products with good selection. If you need something in a pinch they are likely to have it. Their used warranty is a petty 10 days, so keep that in mind when purchasing from them. Also their spare batteries are genuine, but grey market. The one I purchased was meant for the India market.

Needed a special little piece of equipment tomorrow and Amazon was too slow. I decided to check out a (gasp) physical location and noticed theres still a camera shop in Anchorage.Called them and the price was just $5 more than Amazon but I can have it today instead of in 5 or so days. Showed up at the store and they seemed knowledgeable and friendly and helped me right away. Im shocked thatA. A camera shop still exists.B. Its competitive with Amazon.I hope they stay open and do well. Ill go back there when I need something else.
These guys are awesome! I moved up here two years ago and I use this place for every piece of equipment that I purchase. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and the family that owns the business has been in the Anchorage area for decades. Stewarts is constantly offering workshops that range from catching the aurora borealis to adventure travel in Africa. Whether youre a beginner seeking a simple point and shoot camera, or a professional photographer seeking the latest and greatest time lapse set-up, these folks can fix you up and do it at the most reasonable price. The prices in the store are very competitive and some of the items are less expensive than Ive seen on the web. The best part about this place is they stand behind what the sell and are dedicated to the Anchorage community. This place is another gem for us Alaskans and I highly recommend checking it out.

My Tamron is experiencing problems and my receipt is MIA from two years ago. The friendly staff looked up my order by serial number, which took a while as it was the next day when I received a phone call. He emailed the receipt and I will be able to get my lens fixed under warrenty. A+ work.
Pricing was the same as ordering directly from Canon and roughly 5% higher than Amazon and BestBuy. Customer service was excellent and worth the slightly higher prices. In the world of camera lenses, bad copies occur and though not frequent, it is definitely something that worried me when spending that much money on Canons L glass. The staff was willing to test the lens to ensure its quality and if it was a rare bad copy they had 3 more in stock that they were willing to swap with so I wouldnt have to wait for a lengthy RMA. My salesperson was Brian and he dealt with me on 3 different occasions while I was shopping around, each time he was very courteous and more than willing to let me handle the 5D Mark III that I was in the market for. The day I made the leap to purchase, I walked in at 5:55 PM (they close at 6:00 PM) thinking they closed at 8:00. Brian stayed 30 minutes late and was still just as helpful as the first time I walked in. During the process of getting everything together, the owner Matt walked up to me and greeted me. He thanked me personally and gave me some pretty awesome complimentary gear. My experience was excellent and I dont regret purchasing it where I did.

I have been an on and off customer of Stewarts for well over 20 years, more frequently in the last three years because of various photography workshops I have been able to attend. This brings me into Stewarts quite frequently. I have stopped purchasing at B & H and Adorama and Amazon for camera equipment because of the expert advice and help I receive at Stewarts. They price much of their inventory very competitively. They dont always try to sell you more, in fact, I have been talked out of certain items because they know me so well that they know what I need or dont need! Absolutely no pressure sales here. We are very fortunate to even have a camera store in Anchorage. When you buy at the big places online, etc, they are not able to help nearly as well as the individualized help you get at Stewarts. In the last year or so, I have been able to attend some incredible free Canon events, learning new techniques, getting new ideas from their featured photographers, borrowing some of their cameras and lens, etc. In fact, this month we are doing an aurora workshop with Stewarts. If you suggest a workshop, Matt will consider it...he is always planning something new and different. I love Stewarts Photo Shop and hope they remain in business for a very long time!
I moved to Alaska about a year ago and knew no one or nothing. I didnt even know if Anchorage had a camera store. I needed a long lens because I wanted to try and get some pictures of wildlife. I googled camera store and Stewarts came up. I went in there and felt right at home. They were so helpful and helped me decide what I needed. They could have sold me a new one but someone had brought it one and only used it once so they suggested that one which they didnt have to. They would have made more money selling me a new one. After that wonderful experience I have been in there tons of times and everytime I go in there they are so friendly and helpful. In fact they have made me feel so welcome everytime I go in. I have also gone on workshops with Stewarts and have come away so pleased. They have gone places that I would never have gone to and I have learned so much from them. I am going on the aurora workshop and cant wait. I have become a better photographer because of them. I have lived all around the world and I have to say they have been the most helpful and welcoming of any camera store I have been in. I have had problems and they have helped me and didnt try to sell me a thing. I would recommend Stewarts to anyone and have recommended them to many many people. If you want a ma and pops feeling in a store and not just someone to get money out of you I would recommend stewarts in a heartbeat. I will be sad when we move and wont have their expertise and help anymore.
OK....TIME TO TELL THE TRUTH & THE BACKGROUND....OF STEWARTS...ORIGINALLY...STEWARTS WAS FAMILY OWNED....MR.STEWART PASSED AWAY BEFORE I MOVED TO ANCHORAGE (1996) AND MRS.ORO STEWART RAN IT BACK THEN....THEN EVEN HAD A STORE MANAGER...WHEN Mrs. STEWART PASSED AWAY.....ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO....THE OWNERSHIP PER THE WILL PASSED TO A LAWYER FROM A LOCAL ANCHORAGE LAW FIRM....I PRESUME TO KEEP THE BUSINESS GOING...WELL...THATS WHEN THINGS CHANGED....THEY CLEARED OUT ALL THAT MADE STEWARTS WELL GREAT.......GOT RID OF ALL THE OLD STUFF....DID A HIDEOUS REMODEL...UPON WHICH THEY WENT DOWN TO APPROX. 1/3 rd OF THE SHOWCASES & MATERIALS THEY USED TO HAVE....NOW WHEN YOU GO IN THERE....THEY HAVE 35 MM FILM...LAST TIME I WAS THERE....IN 2013 THAT WAS 2 YEARS OUT OF DATE FOR SALE AT 2X THE GOING PRICE.....BASICALLY I ONLY USE THEM FOR AN IMMEDIATE NEED...ALSO TOO CONSIDER THAT MOST OF THEIR BUSINESS NOW...IS GENERATED BY TOURIST TRADE.....NOT LOCAL BUSINESS...SAD TO SAY.,....I HAVE TO GO TO B&H, AUDORAMA OR E-BAY TO ACQUIRE MOST OF THE PHOTO STUFF I NEED....LAST BUT NOT LEAST.....THERES NO FULL TIME MANAGER....JUST A BUNCH OF NEW KIDS(COLLEGE AGE) WITH VERY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE......BASICALLY ITS A SHELL OO WHAT IT WAS....TOO BAD....LIKE MOST PLACES IIN ANCHORAGE THAT WERE FAMILY OWNED ( I.E. BREWSTERS CLOTHING)ONCE THE ORIGINAL OWNER PASSES....WE LOSE THE GREAT PLACES THAT MADE ANCHORAGE WHAT IT WAS.......RTSI WISH THEY WOULD BRING THE OLD STEWARTS BACK....THEY USED TO HAVE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE & A GREAT SELECTION.....BUT LIKE THE SAYING GOES....THAT WAS THEN...THIS IS NOW.....
I am a full time RVer and have travel over 20,000 miles, coast to coast and all over America & Canada. I have stopped at many places for service of all types from simple eating to complex repairs. I had lost faith in any customer service left in the world. Until I stopped at Stewarts Photo shop in Anchorage AK. I found what I was looking for. Real people that knew what they were talking about. Real people who took time to explain and demonstrate things and listen to your problems. Real people who loved what they were doing as they lived and worked with photography.I have been traveling with 4 different cameras and have issues with all of them. I actually went in to buy another new camera, cause thats what has always happened when you entered a store. I was met by Matt, the store manager and I explained my problems. He asked several questions and pointed out several things I was unaware of as this new technology isnt what I knew about cameras of the 60s & 70s. He asked me to bring all the cameras in so he could check them. I agreed, but in the mean time he showed me many models in the store. Never once trying to sell me anything. Only giving me information and demonstrations. I returned next morning with all cameras and Matt introduced me to Brian & Joe. Joe spent several hours going over my gear and changing many settings as well as explaining and demonstrating their usage. They suggested I try them out for a while and let them know how it was working out. The results were amazing. My pictures were clear, focused and full bright of color. I retured a week later to thank them again and show them the fantasic results. They spent even more time pointing out things to help improve my pictures.After 3 more weeks on my journey and hundreds of great photos later, I stopped at the store to say thanks again For not only saving the most important part of my journey, pictures, but also enhancing and documenting them.I rate Stewarts Photo in Anchorage AK number 1, Best Photo Store in America (and Canada). Best in Customer Service that Ive seen in many years. Most friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Good prices and any equipment you need. I will pay a few more cents and get great service you dont get anywhere else. And, any problems, they are there for you. No questions asked. Try that else where. Sincerly, John Allison
