I have been bringing all my vehicles here since the day they opened their doors. They are fast, friendly, and efficient. Most importantly, they have always been honest with me regarding my cars. Several times I have brought vehicles in for a concern and they checked it out and was advised that my car was ok and nothing was needed to be done. They only do work if it is needed. Their business philosophy is to take care the customer. They truly want every person that brings their car to them to leave happy. The word is out about Independent Auto, and now more and more people are bringing their cars there.

Awesome experience, very well run shop, very personable and VERY honest. I feel confident taking any vehicle here and confident in knowing that the repairs that are done are going to be done right and is what is needed for the vehicle.I was given a list of what still needed to be done but was not priority for the vehicle, yet... that really helped us work the repairs easily into our limited non-profit budget. We will DEFINITELY be back to complete the rest of the repairs at a later date and wont consider going to any other shop. Top notch service!!

Tarn is a true Volvo geek and that is what you want when you turn your baby over to someone for maintenance and repair. We worked with the dealership for years and thats fine, but Independent Auto is fabulous. Flexible, knowledgeable, kind and thoughtful. If they have a used serviceable part on hand, they will offer it (if you want to save some $ and time vs. new parts). They know the quirks of all the makes and models. We are really happy to have found them.

New location on 314 International Airport Rd.Once you talk to the mechanic you realize he loves his job and is a very knowledgeable and helpful man and his wife and daughter help run the business. He loves Volvos and offers a competitive price compared to the dealer but more personal service and years of experience.I just bought a used car which is a Volvo V50 and I know almost nothing about this brand. My car doors on the passenger side would sometimes lock or not unlock even when using the lock button on the door handel. Turns out my key fob needed a new battery and $5 later it was fixed. The mechanic even checked my battery and visually looked at my timing belt. I will definitely return here when they need replaced.Update 2020: my old car needed a lot of new parts like coil ignition, alternator, timing belt, breaks, and starter. He gives a fair price and doesnt insist on unneeded repairs. I love this shop.

These guys are outstanding. Ive now been using their services for a couple years, since shortly after they opened, and they have done nothing but superior service with a trustworthy touch that is not common to auto maintenance. On many occasions now I have taken my car in and they have completed the work well under what the dealership quoted, and the nice thing is they will take you to your car and show you whats wrong with an explanation if you ask.

These guys performed a post-purchase inspection on a used Subaru for my girlfriend and I. We were able to schedule the inspection the same day and I was back picking the car up within about an hour. Fast and efficient. They also did not charge me for this service and have earned my future business. Im going back for some minor repair services next week.

Whether Im there for an oil change or a brake job, I believe Im getting the best value in town. They know my name, they know my car, and they treat everyone like a friend.Its apparent that I am not mechanically inclined and wouldnt know the cost of a lug nut let alone some specialized component, but Tarn and Randy operate a fully transparent business by keeping all their clients in the loop of exactly what is needed and the costs associated. I agree with these other reviews. It is rare to find a shop that will tell you what you dont need done. These guys were very professional and honest about what needed repair and what did not. The fee was very reasonable and much less than a dealership. I would highly recommend these guys.

I recently took my Volvo in for an oil leak at my local mechanic here in Soldotna and was told the only way to fix it was to get a new engine for $5000. My parents mechanic suggested I get a second opinion and my friend recommended Independent Auto. They arranged my visit so it would be done in one day which was super helpful since I drove 2.5 hours to get there, let me have a loaner and was able to find and fix the actual problem for $200 and by 5pm. Sure beats a new car or engine. They were friendly and I felt taken care of. They found a few additional problems, but called and reviewed with me and let me decide what to fix. Ill be going back to see them for the rest of the repairs. Totally worth the 2.5 hour drive! Thanks guys! My dream of 20 years and 200,000 lives on.Ive been back a few times to have additional repairs done. I am amazed by their ability to get repairs done same day and to diagnose a lot of issues over the phone based on my terrible descriptions. They remember me and my car. People think Im crazy to drive to Anchorage, but these guys are worth it. I wont go else where!-Recently bought a new Volvo so I have to go to the dealership for service. Im on my first service visit and I miss Independent Auto already. Way better service at Independent Auto and they never say one thing on the phone and something different in person.

I picked this auto shop because of the high review ratings.. they replaced my alternator on my Subaru. After reviewing the work they had done and the bill I received I realize they charged me $270 for an alternator I could have picked up on my own for a hundred bucks. Having said that my real complaint is the fact that my belts were not tightened fully and give off horrible squeals anytime my car set at idle or when I turn my lights on. Today I went out and bought a socket set and fix the problem myself. While I believe in second chances, I feel the case in Auto Repair it should be right the first time. I later went to someone I know and found a place that would have done it for less money and had it done correctly the first time. Live and learn

After dealing with several shops in town that could not properly diagnose/repair my BMW I was referred to Independent Auto. I was stressed out and didnt have much faith left that my car would be fixable or worth the cost of repairs. These guys were more than amazing! They had my car diagnosed and quoted me for the work within a day or two. They were so wonderful to deal with! I am a single mother and feared being taken advantage of with the repairs/cost of the parts etc. They were very upfront and honest with me about what I actually needed and what would be best for the vehicle. This is the only shop I will recommend and I would suggest calling them if you need any work done! A+++ team! Thank you guys!

My 05 Volvo XC70s AWD went out last weekend while I was in Cooper Landing. It was apparent immediately, that after seeing my Anti-skid service required light come on, that my AWD was out. Car drove in FWD only. Luckily, it wasnt a blizzard of a weekend.I took the wagon to the Volvo dealership as soon as I could get an appointment and they confirmed the issue. So, I walked out having paid $108 for the diagnosis to seek a second opinion, since their estimate was $1,800! I was ready and willing to pay that, since I want to keep the wagon and without AWD, it loses a lot of what makes it great.I ended up taking it to Independent Auto, as the woman I purchased it from, took it here for years. She maintained the Volvo extremely well and swore by the people that run this shop.I wasnt charged a dime for them to diagnose the issue and see if they could duplicate the dealerships findings. (Also, they fit me in a day after I saw the dealer. Very quick!) They confirmed what the dealership settled on too. An oil pump for my AWD had gone bad. The filter would be replacing too, as well as new oil for the AOC, (active on-demand coupling).I made the earliest appointment I could (Sewards Day, 3/27) and had them knock it out. I picked up my keys later that afternoon and paid $814. (That also included a replacement bulb in my headlight I didnt know was out!)Long story short, the dealer wanted to do much, on top of replacing the part that was bad. Independent Auto did what was necessary to get my wagon back on the road and nothing extra. This is way it should be! I was treated very well and this took no time at all.Thank you Tarn and Jeremy for making this so easy. If you have a Volvo and need a team of experts who know their stuff at a great rate, take it here.
