This place is a nostalgic nugget located on the southeast side of Amarillos blossoming downtown area. Hardy servings of American breakfasts and a variety of burgers are yours to choose from on an, old school, comfort food menu.As I came into the restaurant, I was greeted by a friendy waitress who allow me to choose my own table. After sitting down, she brought me a menu. This restaurant has a layed back, country style atmosphere and I felt relaxed as I looked over the menu. The walls are solidly covered with mostly Coca Cola memorabilia, some with pictures depicting a bygone era. After placing my order, I felt compelled to take a closer look at the decor on the walls. I had no idea, Coca Cola had so many advertising products.I had a burger, which appeared to have home made buns, an upgrade I feel, from the typical fast food fare. Also, this is one of the few places where you can find fried okra. So if you crave that Southern delicacy, this is a great hideaway to indulge yourself.

I liked this place. It reminded me of an old fashioned 1950s or 60s Diner like my parents and I used to stop at when we traveled when I was a little girl. The only thing I didnt like, although even it was somewhat nostalgic, is that the inside smells very strongly of old smoke as soon as I walked through the front door. The smell wasnt pleasant but at the same time it also reminded me of going into restaurants as a child and even as an adult. After I was in there for about 5 minutes I stopped even noticing it but I worried about it getting in my clothing. Since smoking inside places has been banned for quite a while I figured it was left over from the days before that unless the employees are smoking in there after theyre closed. That might cause it to build up also. The girls that served me were nice and the food was good. I got a chicken salad half sandwich along with a bowl of soup, beef vegetable, and a piece of pie to go at the end since they were closing. Peanut butter pie was very um, sticky, and so sweet it actually lasted me for three different desserts! The soup tasted like it was either homemade or at least partly home made with a packaged broth. It was hard to tell but it hit the spot either way. The chicken salad was also very good. I would definitely go back here even though its not real close to where Im staying in town. I saw other things on the menu that I would like to try. If you like old-fashioned diners and dont mind the smoke smell then I definitely recommend this place. They are only open until about 2 p.m. I think. Id have to look it up to be sure. They would probably be a great breakfast spot also.

Surprisingly inexpensive for the great quality. Its a lovely little spot where you can easily see and hear your order being cooked. The staff were very nice and provided great service throughout my whole experience.

The place has been open since 1942. Wow, they had car hops bring you food and beverage including beer that you could enjoy in your car. Not to forget, the food was fantastic and plentiful! Got to visit before the gentrification happens. Lets keep this place open!!

I had the chicken fry breakfast and the wife had roast beef sandwich and soup. Food was very good. Wait staff was also very good. We sat in no smoking section, but you still get some smoke smell. I would eat there again.

As a breakfast location: Great coffee, food is excellent with your standard fare of diner breakfast selections. Cozy atmosphere with traditional table layouts. Better for intimate breakfast with one or two, rather than a 4+ group.

No Frills fare but the kinda place you wish you could talk to the walls. Along with Golden Light on the other side of downtown are two great places to absorb old Amarillo. Great breakfast under 5 bucks. Under 9 if you splurge!

I do not hate the place I just dont like being followed around electronically I actually eat there all of the time nearly every day for the amount of money that you spend you do get great meals they are not so expensive as others and yet you get good meals and service too. I rated it in this manner to get your attention it appears that I have gotten it too because again I do not like being followed around all over creation.

This little country diner is AWESOME! It is brimming over with hospitality and character. The staff are all smiles and your coffee cup is always full and hot. Theres Coca-cola memorabilia from floor to ceiling, 360 degrees that will take you all the way back to the beginning of the franchise. They even have Coca-cola salt and pepper shakers on all the tables! The country style cooking is great and the food is of the best quality you will find anywhere. All in all, I had an awesome experience and would recommend this place to all.

Called in an order this morning, I ordered 2 breakfast burritos, one sausage, egg, potato, cheese and the other bacon, egg, potato, cheese. I was not given a time span as to when they would be ready so I went ahead and drove over there. Luckily they were ready within just a few minutes of me being there. When I looked in my bag I noticed the burritos were ALOT smaller than what they normally would be if we had sat down and eaten at the restaurant. When I questioned the waitress about them being small, all she could do was give me a smirk and say sorry thats how they are. So I pay and I drive back to the office and I notice one wrapper has a H and the other has an S, no big deal other than the fact I ordered bacon not ham, and there was not any potato in either one of them. Hints to why they were so small. I can see kitchen performance has declined tremendously and we wont be ordering from there any more. I would rather drive clear across town to get good decent food that we ordered.

The Nu-Castle is where all the railroaders meet. Every time I visit my brother in Amarillo we go here for good food and better conversation. Although I no longer smoke, a unique thing about this place is it stills has a separate area for smokers away from the main Diner to enjoy a smoke while they eat.

I usually really like this place but today disappointed. Gravy was not hot just luke warm. They were not busy at all I mean 3 tables only. We had to call for waitress for more to drink. We were there about an hour and a half and they came to table once to check on us. Usually they check on us a lot and are really busy to?
